  1. If he's 5'1" 150lb te, he better be mean. I'm sure Graham will be the biggest and fastest team the Dogs have faced all year, so I just hope we can keep it close and have a chance in the 4th, if not I hope we play hard the whole game. We have a tendency to quit when things go bad and it sounds like things may go bad.
  2. You don't get out much do you?
  3. Basketball big at Mavahi, i don't know why anyone would think that. Alum, looks like bball starts after Friday, won't be long before Radford comes to town.
  4. Figured Graham would be picked to win by a larger margin than 25
  5. Grundy had like 160 yards on offence against Martinsville with the majority of that coming late in the game. One of Grundy's tds came on a bad pitch on a option play that the Grundy player made a great play on to take it 60 yards for the td. Grundy played really hard, but they didn't move the ball all that great on Martinsville. Next week will be a different story, where Grundy had very little to no speed, Graham will be a different animal.
  6. Seen all 10 games and don't recall much trickery except maybe passing out of the wildcat formation. Mavahi has pretty good speed but i dont know if theyre a match for Graham. The Dogs have good size on the line but in the 3 games they lost big plays have killed them. They were dead even with Dan River but a 100 yd int return for a td turned that game around and the dogs lost 24-10. Also lost to Magna Vista 51-37 and GW-Danville 35-14. Former VT d-end Orion Martin is head coach and in 4 years has really done a great job in getting the program turned around. With all that being said i dont know if the Dogs will have enough to pull the upset this Friday. Hopefully we can make a good showing, have no injuries and get ready for bball (first scrimmage today down in Carolina with all backups, all starters still playing football) Looking forward to seeing the G-Men, according to the Grundy folks I talked to last night they are the real deal.
  7. Heard RE Lee will be tough. Two 6'7" guys, with one of them already committed to Marshall. Martinsville plays them in mid January in Lexington so we'll know more about them then
  8. The one that is already here is about 6'2"-6'3" but played point guard. Was 2nd team all-state as a soph last year in his classification. He looks like a very good athlete on the football field. The other is 6'4" but more of a small fwd type.
  9. With Martin,Hairston,Turner and Bratcher back, I'm interested to see how Martinsville will fill in the other pieces this year. Transfer they got from out of state is said to be very good, and rumor has it another transfer may be in the near future.
  10. I know alot will change in 2 weeks, but if everything stays the same a real interesting match up for Abingdon in the 2nd round with Magna Vista coming to town. Some good battles shaping up in 3A West
  11. Talking to DR people, they lost 2 returnees to transfer, Womble being one, they think they will still be decent but not as good without them. Mavahi lost Holland, Dandridge, and Bradley but return 4 who played alot last year and they also have a transfer from out of state who was 2nd team all state as a soph. Also have 3-4 starters up from jv who have gone 38-5 over the last 2 years. No 6'7" kid like Holland but a bunch of 6'2"-6'3" types. Will still be competitive but not like the last 2 years. They may press and run more this year.
  12. Dan River and Martinsville should not be near as strong this year. SW teams should have a cakewalk to the final 4.
  13. Still no sounds are being made. Congrats to the Dogs on a dominant weekend of bball. Also congrats to Ridgeview and Union girls for providing everybody with a great game Saturday. Winning a state championship in your first year of existence is a big accomplishment. I saw it once before with Magna Vista back in 88-89 school year with the boys team. Not easy to bring 2 rival schools together and mesh into a champion. Again congratulations on a great accomplishment.
  14. Greensville upsets previously unbeaten George Mason on a 3 pointer with 4 seconds to go in OT 66-63. Mavahi vs Greensville tommorow for the title.
  15. Final mavahi 69 Bruton 53. Gc - Mavahi round 2 confirmed
  16. Mavahi 35 Bruton 20 at halftime
  17. After watching the Gate City- Martinsville game, if they do play in the semis I would hardly call a GC win an upset. Just hope next time the Dogs don't get into foul trouble so early. Holland has been in foul trouble very little this year, like maybe 3-4 times, and 2 of them were this weekend. Mavahi can't afford that going foward.
  18. Why is Dan River, who is a 2 seed from the west having to travel to 3 seed Greensville Co in the east?
  19. DR's big man Harris broke his finger about 3-4 weeks ago, don't know his status for tonite is. Has alot to do with the way they have struggled the last 6-7 games
  20. Just in this region alone they moved games the last 2 years. Martinsville and DR have won the semis the past 2 years at Floyd in '14 and at Richlands last year then they moved the championship games to Magna Vista both years.
  21. Graham tried to make it as tough to get the ball to Holland as they could. Pretty much the Dogs settled for 3 after 3 and couldn't throw it in the ocean. They finally banked a three in late to tie , hit a ft to go up one and survived on a late Graham turn over. One thing they will do is play tough D. Most they given up in one game this year is 60 to Northside, most were held below 50.
  22. G-Man you are right about the Dogs away from home. Loss by 3 @ Radford after beating them by 20 at home, loss by 4 @ GW-Danville after beating them by the same margin at home, and loss to a 1 loss Northside team by 8 @ Roanoke College after leading the whole game but the most important part, the last 3:15 of the game.G-Man if you remember last year I said that Mavahi would have trouble with Graham because of Graham's great guard play, this year I say that GC can give the Dogs fits because they have more than 1 good 3 point shooter. They have several after seeing them last night against Richlands. In the 3 losses by the Dogs this year the same theme came up, they got hurt by multiple 3point shooters. Martinsville is going to try and turn you over, run and run some more and get it inside to Holland. They are senior heavy and these sr. Have been to the final four the last 2 years. GC is very capable of winning this game if they shoot well.
  23. Just an outside view without a dog in the fight. Not alot of fouls called in the 1st half and the game had a good flow. I thought the game changed early in the 3rd on the hard foul on Barnes. The refs looked liked they wanted to make sure they kept things under control, and started to call alot of fouls they had let go in the 1st half. Overall was a good game by 2 good teams and Martinsville will have their hands full with Gate City. Mavahi won tonite over Appomattox 92-47 and Devontae Holland scored his 2000 point tonite. Gate City will be a stiff test in Wise Friday.
