  1. Wish we were leaving earlier, I would love to stop at the Iron Skillet at the Damascus exit and hit the buffet but then I probably couldn't make it to the game if I did. Oh the things me and mhsalum Sr. do for Mavahi. Hopefully we can take care of business tonight and we can see y'all in beautiful downtown Wise Friday night. Good look to everyone tonight and safe travels, Ryan make the trip, you'll regret it if you dont!
  2. Not saying Mavahi will win any thing, but unless he got lost on his way home last night the Dogs pg was fine and healthy as of 9:30 last night. The Dogs have alot of games to worry about before they get to the east participants. The only east team we played last year was Greensville Co and we pulled away in the 2nd half to win by 15-18 and have 7 of our top 8 players back. But we have got to get by Appo, GC, Union and Graham and also DR and Richlands before the east comes around. But first comes Glenvar tonight. Wish the GC-Union game was on tv so I could dvr it and watch when I get home. Good luck to all teams left, especially the Dogs on their search for # 15.
  3. Seems like the teams in swva are bigger and more physical than the Dogs, and also will have a certain home court advantage with the games at Wise. The Dogs know what to expect with Graham, a well coached team that plays hard buzzer to buzzer, but have no idea what GC,Union have. They did play Richlands 2 years ago when when Richlands boys were all freshmen so if they meet it will be intetesting to see how much better they are as jrs. But of course all of this is subjective because everybody has to win next Tuesday to be able to make it to Wise on Friday. Good luck to everyone, I know Mavahi will need it.
  4. Union beating Martinsville will not be an upset. If they play it will be at Wise, we all saw last year when Martinsville traveled to Richlands to play Graham they were out of their comfort zone. Their 3 losses this year were at Radford,at Roanoke college (Northside), and at GW-Danville. They do not play as well on the road, and as good as Union obviously is, traveling 3 1/2 hours to play them will be an extremely tough thing to do. On top of that according to their own fans they are not as good as they were last year, so sounds like they are going to have a tough time with GC, Union, Graham, Richlands or whoever they play from SWVa, if the Dogs get that far. Theyll first have to get thru DR, Appomattox or Buckingham before they can come to Wise
  5. What Bulldog fans did you talk to? They lost 1 player from last year who avg, about 3-4 points a game and have everybody else back, plus 2 guys up from their jv who are very good. Graham played them very good last year by packing in on Holland and letting the Dogs shoot 3's all night, and we couldn't throw it in the ocean. Also Graham's 2 senior guards controlled the game when the G-men had the ball and they about pulked off the victory. Probably the worst the Dogs shot from outside all year, but it was pick your poison, Holland would have put up a bunch against them but they took him out of the game. I have alot of respect for Graham after last year, they are well coached and played very hard, they were a banked 3 pointer, some missed ft's and a turnover away from going to Richmond last year. G-men are a class act and if we can get there hope to see them in Wise in a week or so.
  6. Graham probably should have beat Martinsville last year but that's kind of been the Dogs Mo for years, teams get close but can't put them away.I go way back to the 60's and there has only been a few of their 14 championship teams that were truly dominant. The teams in SWVa definitely have a good chance to advance this year because they are some obviously really good teams, Gate City and Union just to name a couple, but it's just hard to beat them come playoff time.
  7. Was a really good game. Mavahi led by as many as 14 in the first half and led by 7 or 8 with about 4 to go in the game but the Northside pressure and foul shooting took over and they pulled out the win. Mavahi had 1 starter foul out early in the 4th and another get hurt in the 1st half, and this really handicapped them in the final minutes. No excuses though the Vikings are 19-1 for a reason, they are a very deep and talented team. They just wore the Dogs down, but this game will do them more good than the 80-35 blowouts we've been having.
  8. Top 2 teams from each conference advance to regionals, 4 conferences equals 8 teams.
  9. What we were told, 37-38 1's will play the 2's at home as will 39-40. Then the winners will play at UVa-Wise in the region semis and depending on who wins Wise will host the finals also.
  10. 37-Dan River and Buckingham or Appomattox 38- Martinsville and toss up between the rest but I would guess Floyd Co
  11. Radford wins the rematch 52-49. Tough defensive game on both ends of the court tonight, but Radford pulls it out by hitting 11 3's. Finley with 25 led Radford, and the Bobcat's D held the Dogs Holland to 14.
  12. Martinsville slowly pulled away all game long to beat Radford 61-41. Holland had 24 in his matchup with the Aussie exchange student. The freshman point guard was very impressive for Radford all night and finished with 17. Mavahi was just overall to quick for the Bobcats tonight. Return match in Radford on Jan 4th
  13. Should be a good one tonight in Martinsville. The Dogs return 6 of there top 7 players from last years state championship team, but Radford handed Mavahi one of their losses last year 50-49 on 2 free throws with a couple of seconds left. Should be a good battle inside between the 6'8" exchange student and Martinsville's 6'7" returning 2A player of the year Devonnte Holland.
  14. I do remember the 96 MV-Bassett game. A big rivalry game down here in PD land. I will bet you that Coach Bateman of MV would have never thrown a game especially to the Bengals. The head coach at Bassett at that time had coached with Bateman for years at Drewey Mason and MV and knew Bateman's O and D like the back of his hand. EHC87, you remember Coach Moran don't you? Also MV turned the ball over several times in the red zone contributing to the lost. VHSLhelper I also remember that 97 game against Graham. Graham's D-line stayed in MV's backfield the whole night and the Qb took an absolute beating that night, I knew him well and it was about 3 days before he knew where he was at.
  15. Must have been 96, seems I remember MV came to Mitchell in 97 and lost to Graham in the playoffs. I think that's right because that same school year(97-98) we came and played the G-Men in the regional championship for basketball and won and the next week we went on to win the state championship. For the life of me I can't remember who we could have lost to. Not saying it didn't happen, just don't remember. If you do, please let me know, I like thinking back to the old days, at least as long as my memory still works half way decent.
  16. UVA, not saying it didn't happen but I've been going to and have missed only a few MV games since the school opened in 88. I don't ever recall MV throwing a game. Do you recall who they "threw" the game to? Also congrats to Abingdon on their big win tonight, to go to Northside and win is not an easy task. Good luck next week at LB. Guess we will have to get ready for a track meet with Staunton River. Hope we can score enough
  17. I went to the Martinsville-Buckingham game this past Friday. I can't see them beating Richlands. The Qb and Rb are legit(Gough #4 and Ragland #8), but they are all run. Going into the game the other night they had only threw for 490 yards for the year. When they did throw, they didn't throw it well. Defensivley I think Richlands will be fine, but if 4 or 8 get in the secondary they both have the speed to take it to the house. On offense Richlands being balanced as they are with good line play should be able to move it on the Knights. Also Mavahi had receivers open most of the night but their o-line couldn't give their Qb's anytime to throw, so if Richlands o-line play is up to their usual standards, I think they will move the ball. BHS dbs like to man up and jam wide outs at the line of scrimmage so to me some big plays are there to be had if the o-line holds up. I say the Tornado by at least 3 scores. Good luck and have a safe rest of the playoffs, and for us Mavahi fans it's off to try and defend our state championship in bball. Going for #15 this year!
  18. Went to church with them for years and yeah you were part of the problem. LOL All that bunch up there was suppose to go to Carver but all of them went to DM for athletic reasons, so yeah transfers went on all the time down here. Nobody really thought that much of it either, just kind of accepted it. Must of seen you play baseball in hs as I was friends of Lee and David Macs family and was next door neighbors of Chris Dalton's family, sure is a small world. Good luck to the Falcons this week, Rustburg has some athletes but with the long trip ahead of them and with the passing attack of AHS I think the falcons pull it out. Just hope we can get MV to refocus on Heritage-Lynchburg this week after that tough loss to GW-Danville last week 28-21. Outgained them 442-156 on offense but turnovers and penalties(td or 2 called back)killed us
  19. Tommy and his family are great people. He coached my youngest son from 8th grade thru his sr. year in football and those teams had some great records and even better times. Kind of scary though, thinking of him teaching Drivers Ed. lol
  20. EHC, I'm getting to like you more and more. Lived close to 26 years in Horsepasture, my late wife was a GW Carver graduate and both sons graduated from Magna Vista. Those long trips to Ringgold, Gretna, and Chatham in the old PD don't seem so long compared to the trips some of these schools make today. Now everybody here complains about the trip to Halifax. And Halifax to Stuart is not a short trip either. Did you play bball in high school? Must have known the legend Tim Martin.
  21. Unchained, not saying that Central is not rugged or physical and they very well may beat DR, but the Wildcats played Magna Vista and they also played GW-Danville in a benefit game. Believe me when I say they don't come any more physical than either one of these teams. DR's biggest problem is if you can shut down the run they just don't pass it well enough to keep you honest on D. I'm sure Coach Owens will have Central ready and they will be hard for DR to handle. By the way, I hope that Coach Owens buddy Tom Crigger's Twin Valley team can have a good showing in the playoffs. Tom coached at Magna Vista in the early mid 2000's and was a really good coach and a great person. Safe trip for Central to Ringgold, sure is a long way from Wise.
  22. Dan River has pretty good speed at the running back and QB positions. Not a lot of size but they are not small either. DR is well coached, and they play hard. Is this game being played on Friday or Saturday? This should be a good close game. By the way DR does not throw the ball often and when they do it's not very well.

    3A pairings?

Big O, it looks like you'll get Rustburg at home in the first round and then the winner of #15 Allegheny @ #2 Northside in the 2nd round. Good luck to AHS in the playoffs and congrats on a great year.
