Former Richlands football standout...Devon Johnson
excerpt:
By Dave Wilson in Marshall Sports | August 05, 2014 at 12:00PM
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.— Few nicknames are as fitting as Devon “Rockhead†Johnson. The moniker fits the 6-foot-1, 254 pound bruiser perfectly. In fact, it’s been Johnson’s hard-nosed play on special teams and at H-back that has endeared him to Herd fans.
“He’s a tremendous athlete. He’s extremely tough. Football is important to him and he likes to play,†said Coach Doc Holliday. “That’s where it starts.â€
Johnson came into camp listed as a tight end, where he caught 12 passes and two touchdowns last season but on the first day of camp Johnson found himself in the backfield taking handoffs from quarterback Rakeem Cato.
“He’s got the ability to run the ball,†noted Holliday.

trublue got a reaction from birddog in BHC-Four local girls teams in VHSL Final Four (SWVA)
The SWVA area has four girls teams playing in the state finals for the 2A and 1A state championships. This is an awesome accomplishment...almost unfathomable ALL 4 teams would win. (Thanks to the poster on VA Preps [pizzzzza] for providing outstanding updates on these games...kudos to him/her.)
Also, as Beamerball said, Radford boys will also be playing in the 1A state championship...so congrats to them.
Great job SWVA girls on being in the BIG ONE in 2A and 1A basketball.

trublue got a reaction from HB Burke in Virginia High @ Richlands II
Mance always chooses to play on a Friday night at the Ernie when he has a choice.
One thing to consider in this game, two of the VA High football coaches were coaching at Richlands last year.
These coaches know the tendencies and the indepth idiosyncrasies
of all of the Richlands players except maybe for the freshmen. Not only does Richlands have to prepare for a team they've played and beaten in the regular season, but many of the newer plays they developed for the regular season game, are not new to VA High anymore. VA High probably has more in depth knowledge of the Richlands football program than any other team they've prepared against.
That being said..."it is what it is"...and you try to prep the best you can against another team who intimately knows your program inside and out. Ultimately, it comes down to the players executing ...and with both teams playing better in the latter part of the season (and healthy)... also, both advancing to the second round of the playoffs...the ole saying is true..."whichever team wants it most and makes the least mistakes wins this game."
With all of the above being said, I'm a Richlands' fan and believe we can win this game... I'm sure the VA High fans believe they can win too.

I guess as much as I like Coach Mance' coaching abilities--I'm just as proud of the kudos he always gives to the other team. He graciously complimented the G-Men own their outstanding play.

trublue got a reaction from Bigrhsfan in Falcon Future
I can't believe I'm replying to this...
Richlands' FRESHMAN...Chace Collins came up with a big catch at the end of this game.
The 9 yd. TD reception was from one Richlands' QB to another Richlands' QB, WR, FG Kicker, Punter, Defensive Back...Ben Brown.
Richlands actually had 5 TO's but the Falcons only kept the last interception for a few seconds... because it was taken away by guess who...Ben Brown.
Also, a game is not about the ENTRANCE ....it is about the EXIT!!!
