  1. The Barn Dance will star back up this Saturday the 16th at 7pm at the Old Rich Creek School. Bluegrass by The Hans Creek Band, and Old Time music by The Giles Mountain String Band will round out the evening. Flatfooting, waltzes, 2-steps, and squares will be the format. I'll have Authentic pork BBQ and homemade sauce, brunswick stew, baked beans for the event. More info is on our web sites. This will be every 3rd Saturday. http://www.gilesmountainstringband.com/ http://www.oldvirginiasmokehouse.com/
  2. Yeah, he showed real class. Great game by Tech. 2 Bowl wins in a row.
  3. Gretna is on their way to the bottom again. They are pretty good this year, but their talent is gone after this, acording to some, and their coach leaving may explain that too. Gretna is no match for Bluefield in the near future.
  4. Radford is very athletic and they have a very good defensive line. Giles did very well just to contain the speed of Radford as much as we did. #21 wasnt dressed out. His toe was swollen to where he coudnt hardly get a shoe on. We had several key injuries, but Radford was the better team this year anyway. We have a lot of talent coming up in the lower classes, and plenty of speed, so maybe Giles will return to dominance. These were supposed to be down years, judging by our talent, and JV teams the last few years. 7-4 aint bad for down years. I'll take it any day. Radford will be hard to beat. Gate City may do it. Good luck to Radford.
  5. both cases upset me. Im just balancing out the topic.
  6. How about this story? Lets flip the coin. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/16/troy-dale-west-man-beats_n_289136.html
  7. It had more to do with a poorly ran Dem. campain, and a democrat candidate that seemed desperate, erratic, and was a poor performer in debates and in general speaking. Sometimes the better candidate wins. Va has had this trend for years of going opposite the White House.
  8. This is where The single Wing would have been handy for JM. Time consuming drives keeping the Bluefield O on the sidelines as much as possible. Cupcake Jackson is funny! Thats a good one.
  9. We'll be praying for yall too.
  10. She is dead on. Ive seen CNN and MSNBC both call out the President, and call things out when it was fair to do so. Fox is just doing a 24 hour hatchet job.
  11. We dont change blocking schemes for anyone. In the single wing, the blocking is called at the line. We double team and trap every play. It dont matter if Bruce Smith is on the other side. The blocking wont change. When Lester was out, we were still double teaming and trapping. I alway love the 6 and 7 man front that GW uses. You guys have a good team. Im not sure double wing fits your personel this year.
  12. It was a team effort. Both tailbacks are good in different ways. Lester is definately a force, but I think his absense made little difference. Our 1st drive took maybe 5 plays, and 80 yards, with him at end. His main tackles were on the reverse when he was at nosegaurd. Other than that he was doubleteamed and trapped. GW is a good team. But none of us around here are as good as we were a few years back.
  13. I agree with you 100% Mapper. Everything is not cut and dry, and our system takes advantage of that.
  14. I agree, If they dont design plays for Taylor, like they did Vick, and utilize him that way, it will be a total waiste. They are taking the most dangerous dimension of the offense out of the playbook.
  15. might have been called Slemp and Slews. Its close to downtown, as a roadside BBQ.
  16. If anyone will be at the Rich Creek autumnfest, I'll have my BBQ wagon there. I'll have pulled pork,Brisket, Baked beans, brunswick stew, and in the future, chicken and ribs. I make my own sauces. The meat is cooked 10-16 hours in my ole hickory pit with oak, and hickory. Some pictures are posted on facebook http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1589477061&ref=profile Also, I was curious about a place I saw in Bluefield called something and Slews, (cant remember) I wanted to try them, but I ate lunch in Bluefield Va, and was full. Are they good?
  17. It will have a lot of footage from the past too. These guys do good work. Chris Valluzzo is the director. They did a film on music around here too. Here is a link to their site. ttp://www.whyoldtime.com/henryreed.htm
  18. We looked pretty bad Friday. We were doing better toward the end of the scrimmage, but we started flat. The final was HV 4 Giles 3. Im sure we learned a lot and will put it to good use this Friday against Blacksburg. HV and GW looked awful 2 weeks ago, and seem to have made huge improvements. Cant wait till Friday. Lots of good football to open up.
  19. Someone from Princeton should answer because Im not sure, Princeton does have the skilled players and the strong line. The other question are they as good as a few yrs ago? If you are asking about Giles, I think they are close. Too early to tell yet. We have a huge, good line, and plenty of breakaway speed. The team is also very physical. Thats the key to Giles success, is a hard nosed, hard hitting team. The scrimmage proved that, but there is a lot of work to do.
  20. Princetons line was big and quick. They have a lot of athletes. Dont know abot the 2 you asked about. #20 was good. I think he may be one you mentioned.
  21. Giles and Princeton went 1st, with Giles scoring on a long drive. Princeton dropped a sure TD pass, and never scored, or established the run. Giles and MT View went next, with Giles scoring 14 to Mt View 0. Giles and Princeton went again, more like a live clock. Princeton drove about 40 yards then punted. Giles drove 60 yards, and ran out of time. score 0-0 Giles and Mt View went again and it was 14-0 Giles again. Not sure of the Princeton-Mt View scrimmages, but it looke like Princeton whipped them pretty good. Giles defense looked great, with the exception of a few breakdowns in passing. The run defense is very stout. The offense looked great. We didnt pass much, but we were effective when we did. We didnt use the starters much in the backfield. Our second team is the biggest surprise of all. They never missed a lick where the starters left off. Just my opinion, but things look good at Giles this year. We will find out more when we face a very fast Blacksburg team in 2 weeks.
  22. They play Bluefield tomorrow at 10 in Bluefield.
  23. Giles will scrimmage Princeton and Mt View Saturday at 10 am. Should be some interesting matchups.
