This one is going WAY back, but it's one that I've heard ever since I was a kid:

In 1953, Marion scored 9 unanswered points in the final fifteen seconds to beat Clintwood, 56-52 in the state finals, giving VHSL Hall of Famer Charlie Harkins a state championship in his first season coaching. All five of Clintwood's starters were seniors, they had won two state titles in the three years prior, and they just had a VHSL-record 66 game win streak be broken. They were playing against Marion, who had three freshmen starters, as well as a first year head coach.

As you can imagine, it was quite the upset.

Then there is Lee High traveling to Appomattox if true, that's close to 300 miles from Ben Hur

Interesting stat. Richlands combined opponent record is 30-21. Gate Citys is 42-16. No team above Richlands nor GC have a combined OR with more than 25 wins total. It just goes to show the level of schedule that these two play. 

I have to admit I have been waiting as well.  I thought Richlands was going to come back after half time.  They seem to do that, but I guess being down by 2 scores really made it tough.  I guess Falconman is still recovering from his victory tacos. Lol  I can only imagine his response will be.  On a personal note, proud of Holston finally getting in the win column this week beating Rural Retreat.  Congratulations to Coach Patterson and kids.

I would be lying if I said I havent been waiting on this since Friday night. 

Abingdon wins the Southwest District; is this life?

Had one of our biggest turnouts ever for the poll, so big thanks to all who participated. Poor Lee got their hearts shattered again, this time against Gate City; Abingdon continues to impress, just in time for arguably their biggest game in years, with the SWD title on the line; meanwhile in Blue Tornado Country, rumors abound about a new player from Florida; and in Smyth County, a Category 4 hurricane is brewing, ready to prove themselves against Wise County’s finest. Without further ado, here’s this week’s Top 10:

Sorry I'm late posting this, it's been a crazy week with school and work. Two more undefeated teams went down last week (although the causation behind Lee's loss will be forever debated) leaving us with just Giles and Honaker at the pinnacle. Meanwhile, Abingdon continues to shock us all, Tazewell continues to slump, and the Mountain District as a whole is looking more and more impressive (minus John Battle, of course).

I think Tazewell gets back on top this week and whips OPEN by a 52-12 score! OPEN scores late on the J.V. team.
 
Richlands however will struggle this week by overlooking their OPEN opponent and get outscored 5-3. OPEN scores late on a bad snap at the goal line.

Aside from its debilitating effects, another one of Ebola's symptoms is showing how clinically and terminally stupid Americans are.

Now history may prove me wrong, but the way the press is going on about Ebola, you would think we all were going to die tomorrow.  I do wish people would chill and the crackpots who are saying that Obama is responsible and this is the first step in implementing martial law, or that Bill Gates and George Soros are behind it would just be quiet.
 
Yes, Ebola is a horrible disease that kills 70% of those infected with it, but the odds of me getting it are low.  That is unless I have direct contact with the bodily fluids of someone with Ebola.  Living in SWVA, there is not a high probability of that happening, maybe 1 in a billion.
 
There are greater health risks to me.  I could get bitten by a shark, or have a stroke climbing Mt. Everest.

What's really bad about all this for me is that there is a strong POSSIBILITY that Abingdon will win this Friday night.  Dang that would be hard to swallow...
