Bishop McGuinness is a private school. However, in North Carolina, private schools can, and often do, compete in the NCHSAA. Another glaring oversight by VHSL.
Bishop McGuiness and Alleghany were both members of the 1A Northwest Conference at one time. But much like SWVA, school consolidation and isolation has led to a new mixed 1A and 2A Mountain Valley Conference. Bishop McGuinness remained in the Northwest Conference with East Surry, North Stokes, South Stokes, Mount Airy and Winston Salem Prep.
Alleghany moved to the newly formed Mountain Valley Conference with Elkin, North Wilkes, East Wilkes, West Wilkes, Wilkes Central, Starmount and Ashe County.

Alleghany, NC is actually 4-1 on the season. The football season in North Carolina starts a week prior to Virginia. VHSL has missed that opening game each of the past few years when calculating the first power points.
I would speak to learning from mistakes and all of that but........it's the VHSL!

Family and friends in Vinton compare this team to the Glenvar state championship team from a few years ago. Not flashy, no star, just very fundamentally sound and execute with precision.

Cole Beck 15-205, 2 TD against Salem in 1st half. Can't remember last time someone gauged Salem like that in a half.

Interview Oscar Bradburn! That would be a must-listen.
-
We lived in VInton for 8 years and my cousin is the AD at Byrd.
Byrd will pull away late and win by at least two scores.
-
All you need to know about Grayson is, Glenvar turned the football over 7 times (4 fumbles and 3 interceptions) and still won 41-21.
-
I like this kid but if he chooses Narduzzi's bunch, I can't say that will continue! Dude is a complete asshat!

All in good humor, my friend! Enjoy

Drinking game idea of the day. We all listen to the game and for every time Ryan lets his homer-side loose, we take a shot.
How drunk would the board be by halftime?
-
Galax biggest rival has and always will be Grayson. City school vs county school thing.
I can see the Galax vs George Wythe rivalry blossoming into something special though. Two very proud, successful athletic programs now playing in the same district should make for some exciting games, regardless of sport.

I believe RCITYHOO is referring to the 1971 Radford team. That one team alone had 10 players play at the Division 1 level. Frank Beamer was also on the coaching staff at Radford at that time as well.

And yes, RCITYHOO, those Radford teams, especially the '71 and '72 teams, should be in the conversation.

I can't tell you anything about a "team". As for "identity", Tom Walker is an author. He wrote Fort Apache, Bronx NY. It was later made into a movie featuring Paul Newman.
Glad I could help you out there!

That may very well come to fruition and it wouldn't be a first for a Dixon lead squad. But those teams had Steven Peoples, Charles Harris, Daniel Edwards, Joseph Dixon, Zamir Echeagaray and Caleb Spurlin among others. All of whom, have or are currently playing at the next level. There isn't anyone remotely close to that on this team outside of Dougie and he can't do it by himself. Check out the roster and pay close attention to the size of some of these kids. Compare that to what Dixon has had to work with in years past and you will begin to see a noticeable difference.

I see this as a building year for the freshmen and let them lead all of the talent in the future that currently resides in the middle school. The best players on the team are Dougie, Keaton Beeman, Kolby Barnes and Cole Pickett, the latter three all being freshmen. With that said, the two QB's on the roster had never played a down of varsity football until Friday night and the junior hasn't played football at all since middle school. The third QB was a sophomore and last season's back-up. He quit before the start of the season.
