Former coaches taking the reigns as athletics director is a mixed bag.  Tom Osborne's platform for the position at Nebraska was to hand pick his successors, both in the coaching ranks as well as administrative in an effort to "stabilize" the athletic department.  Time has proven, his hand picked choices for coaches and administrators were less than quality selections.  Nebraska is currently bringing in head football coach number 6 since Osborne sold the university on his "program stabilizing" plan.  Bob Devaney and Bill Byrne were the only two AD's at Nebraska from 1967 to 2002.  They have had 5 since.  Not really a "stabilizing" plan.  Pat Hayden was an abject failure at USC as AD.  Lynn Swann will not fair any better in my opinion. 
Frank Broyles and Barry Alvarez could easily be considered a hall-of-fame caliber coaches and administrators.

I still maintain that Fulmer doesn’t have the intelligence, wherewithal, and personality to run a $110M athletic department.  Very different matters to run a football team and run an entire athletics department.

There Is a 3 page thread already posted about this game. 

Those two are four year starters and will not be easily replaced.  My thoughts are, replacement by committee after talking to someone I grew up with on the coaching staff.  If they can manage to do that, the rest of the roster is returning pretty much fully intact.

All of 1A football is down this season as compared to recent years with the exception of Narrows and Chlhowie.  Any of the Galax, Clintwood, Haysi, Riverheads, Essex and George Wythe teams of the past 5-6 seasons would have dominated from the opening quarter of the opening game of this season.  With that said, I wish Chilhowie all the best and will be rooting for anyone from SWVA at this juncture of the season.  But Riverheads will win this game going away!

Unless I’m missing something, neither of these teams will pose much of a threat for Riverheads. 
Galax has 2:14 to win it or play basketball. 

Galax is getting some push-back for scheduling this game around SAT's.  Some people have such a lack of perspective, it's both confusing and infuriating.  Not one kid in this game is likely to ever make a dime from playing the game of football.  Every single kid in this game can benefit from a quality education.  
 

SATs have historically been in the mornings of the first weekend in December as far back as I can remember.  Good on Galax scheduling around them, and shame to the parents causing disturbance over it.

People that typically make comments like the quote you have above are small minded and have only their high school days/careers to look on as true accomplishments in their life. That's why anything outside of that seems unimportant. We all love HS football, but it is such a small fraction of these kid's lives.

Galax isn't the only school that has to worry about SATs.

That would mean both the general, social media using, public and also the VHSL would have an iota of common sense in either case.  However, we all know that isn't the case.  

SAT's are generally planned well in advance of a school year so, this isn't something that couldn't have been planned for.  But my issue isn't so much with the timing as it is with some folks response to the timing.  People are upset that some players are choosing to take the SAT's on the same day rather than "focusing on the biggest game of the season".  The quoted text is taken directly from social media!

Chilhowie football Coach Chad Johnson's mother died unexpectedly Saturday. Please pray for Coach Johnson and his family during this difficult time. May God Bless the Johnson family.

Galax has 10 seniors but two are kickers and another rarely plays. The coaching staff tends to cater the starting lineup to match-up with the opponent in certain spots but they typically start 6 seniors. But another half a dozen freshmen play significant minutes. 
As has been stated previously, if your going to get Galax, now is the time. The group coming up is something very special. 

Several things here. 
1. Graham will NOT be the 1 seed in the region. That will be Gate City. Graham and Union will fight for the 2 seed, and I'll give the slight edge to Graham, although Union will have Mitchell. 
2. Region C may be the best top to bottom region, but GC has the best player in 2A and a couple of other pieces that will make it hard to beat them. You wanna beat GC, you're gonna have to go score probably 75-85 a night. Good luck with that. 
3. GC is more than hype. This is a team with a Georgetown commit, a D1 caliber junior and a now-sophomore that can light it up. Add in a few role players, and they have what they need. They are not hype. 
4. They can't control their competition on their schedule. They have to play the M7 teams, and only Union is really capable of putting up a fight. And with their location in the state, heading up to Roanoke or wherever on a Tuesday night in January just isn't feasible. 
 
I also have Radford coming out of C, but they won't beat GC if they play. Book it now.
