If he turned 18 in September (or earlier), its possible he was a held back at some point in his schooling, even if he was held back when he was 4 going on 5 in kindergarten. The "older" kids in my class that weren't held back didn't turn 18 until October of our senior year...I was 16 for the first two days of my senior year...
