Honestly, I just hope that people do not have unrealistic expectations of Obama. Yes, we all know that this country is not in the greatest shape, but we musn't believe that Barack Obama will be the "Savior". Many people I have encountered have this vision that Obama is the Messiah and will bring change about the entire country and make this world perfect, and that, my friend, is fabrication at its finest. I hope for the best, I really and truly do. I am genuinely worried about a cult following of Obama and I hope and pray that it doesn't get to that level. I hope that Obama proves me wrong and can follow up. I truly hope I eat these words in four years. But chances are I'll be the guy pointing at everyone saying, "I told ya so."

I was trying to think of a way to say exactly what you said, but you beat me to it. It's going to be an interesting 4 years, and I hope Obama can help America out of this time of struggle.

I am worried about one thing though, and that's the need for vindication from the Democratic party. I feel like there is a ton of emphasis being placed on the seemingly poor job Bush did, so does that mean the Legislative and Executive controlling Democrats do whatever they want without regard to others' views being expressed? I could definitely see people like Pelosi doing that, furthering the split and tension between Reps. and Dems.

What we must all realize is that we are Americans first and foremost, regardless of petty political party affiliation. We have so many enormous tasks ahead of us and we have no hope of conquering these unless we can unite, as we have so many times in our history, and vanquish them.

Regardless of who you voted for, I hope that we can all get behind not Barack Obama but the United States of America and change this world for the better.

Seeing that, I feel like I didn't put enough emphasis on race. That facebook quote you gave is ridiculous.

It gets worse.

my president izz black b*tches...f*ck all the mccain supporters hard sidewasy with an anaconda.. && leave if u want we dont care cuzzz its all about BLACK POWER.

JJBrickface was right, its hard not to be racist when the other side is like that. Obama has distanced himself from the race card, and I appreciate that. Average people need to be like that.

I think there are few who would not wish Obama a good term, we all want America to succeed. However, many of us still believe that our positions are correct, and want to be accounted for as well in moving in the right direction.

We must all hope this election does not divide this country more, and that the politicians learn to reach across the isle more times than not.

Wont do any good. Its everywhere.

People (on facebook) are more enthused that he is black than by his policies.

Hopefully the nation isnt like that.

Am I the only person who sees Obama as a person and not necessarily as black first and foremost?

I do, and always have.

But there are many out there who don't. And not coincidentally, there's a good many more who voted for him for that reason. Either as a deciding factor or a primary one.

I couldnt agree with you more....and thats truly sad... Then you have to think 45% of American American teenagers have no idea his policies, where he's from or anything else about politics.

I will hang my American flag upside down tomorrow in remembrance of the day American died... November 4th, 2008.

I realize your intent, but with all due respect, don't fly the flag upside down, while it's intended as a sign of distress, it's intended as a sign or real life or death distress only, the flag is never to be used to make political points or any type of points in such ways. Be patient knowing you've done and sided with what was right, that socialism will fail itself, either the country will eventually turn from it in 2012 or go on down the destructive route at their fault.

I agree and I hope those within the Republican party will not be behave like the democrats have for the past 8 years. A lot more could have been achieved if Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Harry Reid, Joe Biden, etc. were more concerned about the well being of our country instead of bringing up measures to impeach President Bush. I told you before that McCain has always been a candidate who has been willing to work with the other side, he reinforced that tonight in his concession speech. Its a shame that there aren't more public servants like him in office today.

which is ironic now that obama will be president, all of a sudden they say "lets not be negative towards our president or oppose the other side, we have to be united or it will make things worse", now they say it after 8 years of nothing but "making it worse" by going against everything bush did. They wouldn't even work together on a war where American lives were at risk, they undermined the war in everyway everytime they could at the shameless expense of the tides of war and those lives. Now they have the auodacity to say this.

Maybe if they honestly mean what they say and realize the need for cooperation rather than hostility they'd realize their own side's big share in any of the "mess of the last 8 years" as they say. I doubt it though.

I've read all these posts and it's as if the Republicans never had a chance to govern. Eight years of a Republican President, six of those years with a Republican House of Representatives. Where are we with that fact? What has happened in those years?

WE will forever be remembered as the generation of greed and selfishness, we've done this to ourselves. We will probably be the first generation to leave the next generation in worse shape than we were left. Republicans will blame Democrats, Democrats will blame Republicans.......we, the people that elect our representatives are to blame.

We have managed to bankrupt our country, borrow ourselves into prosperity. Now, it's time to pay up.

I don't have any Idea if our new President will make one difference but the past certainly hasn't worked. I'm ashamed of the mess we are leaving for our children and grandchildren to clean up. God bless them, hopefully they will be able to see past the "me" generation and become the "us" generation.

You people are hilarious or sad not sure which. I've been so embarrassed to have W in office the past 8. He never won the first election....has been proven, and done a horrible job. As far as WV being a red state, we had this convo last night on the live msg board. WV has quite a few uninformed people. All they've heard is that he's the antichrist or he's taking our guns, and yes in some cases...he's black there has to be someone better! I voted for Obama and I think we will be better for it.

The race issue is so stupid. On yahoo.com's main page the head line is "First Black President." Black people on facebook are saying things like, "We did it, a black president."

How can we move on from the past if every thing an African-American accomplishes is labeled as them being the first to do so. The average black person is not helping the cause to move on.

It's only stupid if that is the basis of yours or anyone's vote. It's History and a milestone. The fact he was elected is a part of History.

Agreed! But one question. How come Democrats didn't unite with the Republicans the last 8 years? Simply put, they put party over country. There is no way one can deny that.

This registered Republican, who voted twice for Bush, is glad he voted for Obama and elated Obama won. It's time for a change in Washington; the crap that has been going on in Washington over the last eight years hasn't worked.

And to those of you who believe this is the end of America then I suggest you pack your bags, grab a plan ticket, and head to another country. I hear places like Iraq, Iran, North Korea, China, etc. are wonderful places to live. On this day, my birthday, November 5 I'm proud to be an American and am ready to see this country change for the better.

A bunch of people on facebook were saying they were moving. We all know they wont. But if they feel that strongly about it, I say we pack there bags for them and give them a first class ticket to Korea. I've heard its quite nice there this time of year.

And I agree with you, we can't have the same stuff thats been going on in Washington any longer. I think Obama has the right idea, I really do. Last night when he found out he was going to become the 44th President, he was very appreciative what he was given in life and thanked many people who helped him thru-out his life. Even mentioning his Grandmother who passed away two days ago in Hawaii and how much this would have ment to her. He said that we need to come together reguardless of whether you voted for him or McCain and be united and like it or not, we are facing these issues not as a single person, a party ,or a race, but as a Country. The United States of America.

And I truly believe that Barack Obama is the right man for the job.

Happy Birthday Rules!

The majority of Americans WANT Socialism. They don't know it's called Socialism. The majority of Americans don't even know what Socialism is.

To most Americans, "free" health care, "free" housing, "free" food, are wonderful things. To most Americans, it is a relief to give away the burden of these responsibilities to a government that will take care of them. It is just plain easier.

In another time, this was called "slavery." While once thought of as distasteful, it appears that it has come back into fashion. 60,000,000 American voters crawled into the voting booths, and volunteered to become wards of the State - the new "master." The liberal's dream of a nation of serfs, ruled over by the political elite, is one giant leap forward.

Of course, these same Americans have utterly no understanding that giving away these responsibilities also means giving away liberty. It's just so bothersome to think of. Besides, the next season of American Idol starts soon. Isn't it just so much nicer to sit and watch the funny people on the TV? Besides, all the talk about liberty just makes them sleepy.

Obama's agenda is 100% unstoppable. The majority party has but to point at any defiant senator and say, "racist". That, combined with the investigation of the MSM into the "racist" senator will cause immediate compliance.

No generation that lost their liberty - or in our case, gave it away - lived to see it again.

Socialism:

1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.

3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

I just don't see Obama as a socialist...I really don't get why people keep saying this...McCain's health plan was to give you $5k? how is that any different? By what you guys are calling Socialism, McCain is a socialist as well.

Redistribution of weath.

Then as to the others, when the goverment owns the healthcare system, the media system, and others they are controlling the means of capitol and production.

This is a bland definition however, if you looked at how socialistic communities rule, you might get a better feel for it. I have to get to class or I would list one...
