mdotson98 10 Report Share Posted October 10, 2011 Oak Hill Academy will be coming to compete in a scrimmage with the Hurley Rebels on December 3. I have been told that it will actually be there B team but still yet, some very good competition for the Rebels.
deuceswild 15 Report Share Posted October 10, 2011 It will definitely be their B team, or "Red" team as they call it. You want no part of the "Gold" team.
1inStripes 933 Report Share Posted October 10, 2011 Their RED team I have seen in past years is a crazy bunch. Not very good and not very disciplined in years past.

deuceswild 15 Report Share Posted October 10, 2011 The Red team is better than most teams in Southwest Virginia. Â That's not really saying much. About 60% of our local basketball teams aren't very good.

mdotson98 10 Author Report Share Posted October 10, 2011 I have Hurley's full schedule, they are in the VA high tournament again this year, not sure what the name of that tournament is however. They also travel down to TN high for the Arby's Classic where they should face some very very good teams. They also play two game real early on the schedule against Logan and Mingo Central, don't really know anything about either one of those teams. They will once again be road warriors for a while as they do not have a home game until after the new year. With it being the senior year for Hurley's BIG 3, I am expecting them to have another very sucessful season.
1inStripes 933 Report Share Posted October 10, 2011 The Arby's Classic will be a great opportunity for them. I hope they do very well, and maybe my work schedule will provide an opportunity to go watch them play.
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted October 10, 2011 They also play two game real early on the schedule against Logan and Mingo Central, don't really know anything about either one of those teams. Â Logan is a perrenial WV AAA power...they won the AAA Championship in 2010...they are well know for "recruiting" kids to play there. Â Mingo Central is the new consolidated school in Mingo County...this is their first year together but Gilbert HS and Williamson HS, two of the schools in the consolidation, had some great basketball teams/tradition over the years. Â Both schools will be a very good test for Hurley... Â Check WVPreps.com for more info on both.
VHSLhelper 571 Report Share Posted October 10, 2011 (edited) If Va. High is around Christmas, it's the HUB tourney - the Highlands Union Bank Tip-Off Classic. Â Didn't the Wildcats have a player from Canada a couple of years ago? And I wonder if Coach Hatcher is any relation to Lee's Hatcher? mdotson98 10 Author Report Share Posted October 11, 2011 Who's Hurley big 3 ...are they the only seniors or just the top 3? Â The BIG 3 that I am talking about is Austin and Tyler Cooper and the big man 6'7" Dustin Waynick. They are the three top scorers for the Rebels, and also all 3 are seniors. However that is not all the Rebels have as they return all but 2 players from a team that went to the Final Four last year. Also returning is Sophomore guard Wesley Peck who played great last year as a freshman. Also in their starting 5 is forward Thomas Allen who came through big for the Rebels several times last year both offensively and defensively. Most all of the bench returns with the exception of 2 that graduated. Looking to fill those open spots on the roster could be players from a talented JV squad. Or from what I am hearing possibly even two recent transfers, Tyler Berglowe and Dylan "Teddy Bear" Justus who are playing football for the Rebels. cityofRaven 2,452 Report Share Posted October 12, 2011 I told someone last year that baring injury, this team should go undefeated. That was before I knew they were participating in the Arby's but never the less, this team should be very good.
