  1. Not sure now. Hogo Sports had a site that was dedicated to the Hogo, but it has since been shut down. I will look and see what I can find.
  2. 1. Union 2. Richlands 3. Graham 4. Pulaski County 5. GW 6. Abingdon 7. Galax 8. Chilhowie 9. Bluefield 10. Giles
  3. If you're going that route I'll take Burgundy/maroon and Gold/Yellow! :)
  4. I did not know silver was one of Richlands colors. Navy and Silver are Northwood's primary colors, they have gone away from the silver and replaced it with white and I can't stand it. For the first 20 years of the school (give or take 2-3 years) our helmets were silver with navy facemasks, I loved them. Northwood had an all silver uniform to go with the silver helmet in the late 90's too.
  5. Mind you this is my opinion, they were ok. To me if your school or team only has 2 colors and one of them happens to be white, ie. Richlands Navy & White, well you don't have many options. On the other hand, if your team has multiple colors I like it when they are used on the helmet.
  6. What is the deal with all the white helmets? I myself can't stand them, I've only seen a select few that I have liked.

    Numbers?

From what I was told yesterday, PH's numbers are more around 25ish.
  9. Never been to Mitchell, played at Hicks once when it was grass and the end zone out to the 5 yard line was flooded (scrimmage). For myself I need to separate the list between played and watched. "Home" will almost always be your favorite. With that said; Northwood (home) good field, great home side stands, a lot of history in that venue. Football has been played on that field since 1920 and the Saltville Alkalies semi-pro baseball team played there. (picture taken in March of 1967) Played (in no real order) Watched George Wythe John S. Battle (hated playing on the field) Marion (before they moved the field the baseball infield came out to around the 8 yard line it was pretty cool) Abingdon St. Paul (just different, felt like the crowd was right on top of you) Gate City (it kinda wowed me with the home side filling half the visitors bleachers and their GC chant) Chilhowie - Because most of the home side thinks their $h!t don't stink and the visitors don't like them, it makes for a great aptmosphere
  10. Northwood's old gym left only a couple of feet from the playing surface to the first row of bleachers. That made it pretty intense atmosphere. Their "new" gym is pretty cool, plenty of seating and the visual effect of a sunken floor. I didn't attend many games in other facilities.
  11. I will be the first to say I'm not a Chilhowie fan, but you are looking at their schedule calling it very watered down. Are you taking into consideration that they are 1a and played 3 2a schools? I know it's not a powerhouse schedule, but 9-3 for a team that was comprised of mostly juniors and sophomores that's not bad.
  12. How did Northwood and PH look?
  13. The HOGO has been doing the 7:00 kick off for about 3 years now. It makes it hard to get to some games on time.
  14. Northwood's 2017 Schedule.
  15. A little history here, It was called Saltville High School until the end of the school year of 1956. The current Northwood High School building opened in the fall of 1957 and they named it after R.B. Worthy. Reason being they named it after him, "Because of all he had done for the town since he came here in 1925 to oversee the repair of the muck dam. He was sports minded and as plant manager, he saw that Saltville High had always had anything they needed. We had our own school system until 1972. Were not a part of the Smyth County system. He was civic minded and was the man who enlarged and improved the golf course. He saw that the Saltville Alkalies were well equipped and Shaker teams had the finest equipment money could buy. In the '50s, Shaker football uniforms cost as much as UT's uniforms. Mr. Worthy was on the school board and then, the plant and town worked together. If the town needed money, Mr. Worthy and the company came forth. And too, he was one of the most popular men in town...he would stop and talk with anyone on the street and the people loved him. When someone on the town council suggested they name the new school for him, it passed unanimously."
  16. He was NAIA All-American there. He was a solid athlete.
  17. TBT - The 1966 R. B. Worthy Shakers...Saltville, Virginia...undefeated District VI Champs (10-0) The '66 Shakers was the only Saltville team to go 10-0. Until 1970, there were no playoffs in football.
  18. The two schools were bitter rivals, there was no way that the Rich Valley people were going to let them keep the name and mascot of a school they hated, espically when they were being forced out of their own high school to consolidate with R.B. Worthy.
  19. Patrick Henry's coaching staff is getting picked apart. Burke going to GC and Chris Duble at Northwood as new Head Coach.
  20. Got ya. I wasn't counting that one, simply because it would still be needed no matter what the county did with the other schools. Although that particular school used to be a joke 20+ years ago, kids shooting basketball or playing football instead of learning a skill or trade. I believe that has change since then.
  21. The Smyth County School system is in a state of despair. The Superintendent is New and inexperienced, and the school system itself is a very tough situation Financialy. Smyth County tries to operate 14 schools, all over the county, when In reality, Smyth County needs only about half that number. The Superintendent is New but not Inexperienced, Just because he is "younger" than the past 2 does not mean he isn't qualified. He has been an educator his entire adult life, he has come though the ranks to get where he is. You have to give him a chance and see what he can do for the system. As for having 14 schools, I must be missing one I can only think of 13. (I am not disagreeing with you) I count 4 for Northwood, 3 for Chilhowie, and 6 for Marion. What school am I missing? I really can't think of another one. What schools would you shut down? Or how would you cut the number in half?
