Given my best "guestimation".....it looks like Ridgeview controls their own fate if they win out. No matter what conceivable scenario I calculate, Ridgeview stays #11, except in the case of Graham losing to Narrows and Central losing to Gate City which would see Ridgeview at #10.

Only two weeks of games left, but the "possible" end results are all over the place.

Central was just downright pitiful play calling at the goal line. Union dominated every other aspect of the game.

Gate City was two things. 1. A much improved and completely healthy GC team that Richlands didn't see. 2. Poor defensive scheme by the DC. Never rushed the QB and played a prevent style secondary where the DBs just stood and waited for the receivers to catch the ball and THEN tried to do something about it. After 3 quarters of that they upped the pressure on the QB and started playing more aggressive in the secondary. GC didn't score in the 4th.

Couldn't have said it better myself. For the first time in Union's history, the DC out coached the OC.... that was hard to say. The D played lights out. The offense moved up and down the field, but called some of the most IGNORANT plays inside the 5 I have ever seen. A single toss sweep could have gotten them a TD on any of those possessions. You DO NOT run up the middle when the other team is sending they're WHOLE freaking defense between the tackles. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I will certainly give Central's DC credit. He must of been tapped into Union's headset because he knew exactly what they were calling. Sad that the Bears were that predictable. 12 plays on 3 possessions inside the 3 yard line and you walk away with nothing.

On a side note...it should not be that cold in October. I would hate to play a night game there in November or December. That wind was relentless.

And I agree. Abingdon does not belong in 2A. Just need to schedule more competitive games. And like Tiger said, there's a ton of big schools in NET that aren't that far away. Look how close Tenn High is.

    From Abingdon...

    Tenn high - 23 minutes
    Sullivan South - 38 minutes
    Sullivan Central - 27 minutes
    Sullivan East - 35 minutes
    DB - 41 minutes
    David Crockett -59 minutes
    Elizabethton - 54 minutes

On their current schedule, Graham, Christiansburg, Blacksburg, and Tazewell are all over an hour drive. So, they don't have to travel 3 days by mule to find teams to play.

And in defense of the Falcons, you don't always know how a team is going to do each year. Several of the teams on this year's schedule had winning records last year.

It just simply comes down to wins by opponents. When a team wins a game they get 2 rider points for each win that their defeated opponent has. I just checked Lord Botetourt's schedule( the team directly in front of Abingdon). They have 6 wins, Abingdon has 6 wins, but LB has 26 rider points from their 6 wins. Abindgon only has 18. Base points aren't as huge as rider points in the grand scheme. Take the example below...

Beating a 1A out of district team that is 9-1 would get Abingdon 16 base points, 18 rider points, and 2 classification points for a total of 36 points.
Beating a 6A out of district team that is 0-10 would get Abingdon 26 base points, 0 rider points, and 0 classification points for a total of 26 points, or 10 LESS points than the 1A team.

The best way to get power points is to beat teams with winning records. Thus far, Abingdon's schedule has consisted of 4-1 win teams, 1 - 2 win team, and 1 - 3 win team. None have a winning record.

I hear ya Falconman. I'm tired of hearing it too! All the "Union's so great", "Union's on a roll", "Union's undefeated", "Union would make Falcon salad croissants, with white wine, out of AHS if they ever played", is getting pretty old.

On behalf of all Union Fans everywhere, especially those in Camelot, let me apologize for all the positive publicity that Union has received. It has really been unfair to all non Union fans. Union is just trying to play the best ball that Union can, and Union doesn't mean to step on any toes. Union wishes AHS all the best of luck that Union can. Union certainly hopes that AHS has a successful season, and Union wants all the AHS kids to stay healthy and do their best. If Union does play AHS in the future, Union will do their best to be good sports and Union fans will be sure to visit the concession stands and all the fine eating establishments in Abingdon.

To sum up, Union is sorry.

It just comes down to wins, and the teams on Richlands' schedule has more of them than Giles.

Given my scenario, Richlands' opponents will be a combined 56-44 while Giles' will be a combined 43-57. In 2013 Giles was 10-0 and Union was 8-2, but Giles only had 16 more points. Had Union won either game they lost they would have shot ahead of Giles.

Richlands will get 102 rider points, from their opponents' wins. Giles will get 86 from theirs. That's a 16 point difference, and will basically make up for the Union loss.

Not so fast my friend....    Playing larger teams only counts if they win. Union's win over 1A JI burton will get them 33-35 power points. Appomattox's win over 3A Heritage will most likely only net them 26-28 points as they have only won 1 game and will more than likely finish 3-7 or 4-6.   And David Crockett, Union's 4A "out of state" team, still gets full power points. If they finish 5-5 that would be 32 more points.   Also, scheduling for the Dogwood means all the teams play each other the rest of the year. All games will be a "push", meaning Appo can't gain points as the teams they beat will be playing each other so they get the same points regardless of who wins.   Like I said a lot of "IFs", but it is possible. Union would depend on Eastside sweeping their Cumberland schedule with the exception of JI Burton, and Crockett to finish 6-4.   Assuming all teams win out and Giles beats Glenvar.

    1. Union - 290 - 29
    2. Appo - 288 -28.8
    3. Richlands - 270 - 27
    4. Giles - 268 -26.8
    5. Glenvar - 264 - 26.4

    If Glenvar beats Giles

    1. Union - 290 - 29
    2. Appo - 288 -28.8
    3. Glenvar - 284 - 28.4
    4. Richlands - 270 - 27
    5. Buckingham - 261 - 26.1

    Yes.

We may not feel like we are lesser competition, but let's face the "big" NET teams view us that way. Heck, even the eastern VA teams, in our own classification, view us as lesser competition.

We are those "poor inbred mountain people". I guarantee you that David Crockett only scheduled Union because they thought it would be an easy victory. Sullivan North ONLY scheduled Union the last 2 years because they didn't have a choice. They dropped us after '12, but couldn't fill they're schedule so had to pick us back up. Notice we're not playing them this cycle.

Union has had a hard time with scheduling. Teams in NET don't typically want to play us "hillbillies" in SWVA. They know that our best teams are better than MOST of their teams, but as long as they don't play us it won't be proven.

I agree with you, but, unfortunately, NET can't take the chance of being humiliated.

Union at Middleboro in 2013 was beyond ridiculous. When a Middleboro player walks up to an official AFTER the play, points at a Union player and motions that he was held, and the official throws a flag you know it's going to be a long night...and it was. Then there was a phantom 30 yard unsportsmanlike penalty that the ref couldn't even tell Turner what it was for. I dread going to Letcher.

Ok, I said nothing to belittle Wise, but I don't think we will need luck to beat Wse.

I was not underestimating them whatsoever, I mentioned they scare us the most, but we should be favored and if Union plays a solid game, they win. And say what you want, Mullins, a a sophomore, is not as good as Collier, and no one on the outside for Wise is as good as McClung. I tried to be civil, but if you wanna start a bash fest, Ill gladly join in.

Union faces the best TE in the region every day in practice, I think they can prepare for a good TE in England.

D coordinator plays an almost prevent style formation. He waits for the RBs to come to the linebackers and waits for the receivers to come to the DBs. Union has MORE than enough athletes to cover 1 on 1 and jam the receivers at the line. We could really use a different coordinator.
