So.... back to the original question?  Are they not playing each other in the benefit game? Did that ever get answered, did I miss it?

I would be very surprised if this transfer isn't on the up and up. I know a kid that recently transferred to and played for Richlands. The principal and AD at Richlands all but lived with them to make sure they were living in Richlands. The bottom line is kids like playing for Mance. Word of mouth is the best advertisement and the kids talk about how well they like playing for him. Richlands has built a program from the little league up that both the kids and parents like. Unfortunately for the rest of us our house isn't in the same shape.
Our middle school program at Graham isn't doing the high school any favors. No weight lifting or conditioning at all. No coach has been announced. I realize it's "just" middle school but this is your feeder program.

Let us all keep the families of the flood victims in West Virginia in our thoughts and Prayers. Many families were impacted with lose of life in some areas of the state, and some may not ever recover.

May God be with them during the months ahead.

The LB's Richlands had last year is going to be hard to replace for sure.  They were fun to watch.  No matter what team you're pulling for on Friday nights getting to watch kids play the way they did is what makes high school football great.

Alright guys let's not get too carried away with this!! LOL...  Remember the game will be played with 11 players not 7 and they'll have pads on this fall.  Which can make a big difference.  Not a real big fan of 7 on 7 tends to build too much hype.  Especially for those of us that can't wait to get started. I believe the defensive side of the ball will be the biggest question mark for both Graham and Richlands this year.

Richlands biggest worries are at LB. The line will be just as good as last year, and that's hard to do given what we lost, but I feel this group could be special. The secondary has some good potential as well. I know they are trying out several different players in lots of positions back there to see what group produces best. If we can just find some consistent LB play, this defense can be more than capable of shutting down some teams and stopping others enough to let our offense go out there and put some points up. Just one mans opinion, however.

Galax should definitely be in contention again this year.  They have an outstanding head coach that has the backing of the kids and community.  Many schools in the state would love to have a coach of his caliber.

Thanks to all those responsible for this site.  It isn't the norm in today's internet world for similar sites to be monitored in a fair, equitable and unbiased way and remain free for members to participate.

As I have stated before, I am a golf junkie.  I have been a member of a golf forum similar to this for 7 years.  That site often takes "hot topics" and moves them from the "free forums" section, where all threads begin, into the "debate forums" section that requires financial "gifts" (love their choice of wording) in order to continue participation.  Each individual site member that has participated in the "free" thread is then sent a private message saying "The thread titled _____________has been moved into the Debate section.  To further participate in this lively conversation, please make a gift in the amount of $34.95 and become a member of The Albatross Club".

I wouldn't be so put off by the audacity if it weren't so extremely lowbrow.  If they would just make the site a paid entity, it wouldn't seem so ridiculously manipulative.

Again, thanks to those who make this site what it is.

    Dear C. Montgomery Burns,

I have a bookshelf on the left wall of my office.  On that bookshelf rest 27 binders.  Those binders correspond to the clients I have who are facing felonies.  Of those 27 binders, 20 are those of people over that magical age of 35.  Another 2 of those are older than I am but younger than 35.  Lack of discipline and respect is by no means a generational thing.  It's a human thing.  Ages are largely irrelevant.

I am perplexed at the ridicule heaped on Generation Y by Baby Boomers and Generation X.

Baby Boomers have so completely mismanaged their assets that a large number of them cannot or will not retire, which keeps Generation X from moving up and Generation Y from filling Generation X's shoes.  That is the largest contributor, without even a close 2nd, to the rampant unemployment that exists among Generation Y.  Without the prospect of employment or upward mobility, Generation Y is stuck in a holding pattern of despair.  But they grumble about how "lazy" the "kids" are.  Yet it's Generation Y's fault.

Generation X raised Generation Y.  Last time I checked, it was the parents' job to instill values and morality into their children.  I don't think that's changed.  It's Generation X that is too weak to put its foot down when their Generation Y children want to play high school hopscotch so they can get some playing time on Friday nights.  It's Generation X that refuses to learn how technology works, and therefore cannot adequately supervise their children when they get on Snapchat, Kik, or another medium that is beyond Generation X.  Yet it's Generation Y's fault.

Maybe it's that Generation Y doesn't want to do something because so many Baby Boomers and Generation X don't deserve the unwarranted respect that's been heaped upon them.  Maybe it's because Generation Y wants to understand the "why" of doing something, and the Baby Boomers and Generation X are fixated on the "how".  Generation Y has its delicate little snowflakes, just like Generation X has it's out-of-touch yuppies and the Baby Boomers have their out-of-touch curmudgeons.  It takes all kinds of kinds

As a general rule, if a "source" says something too ridiculous to be true, it is.

Straight from the main horse's mouth, there is a $1.6M deficit, and it has to be made up. There will be some academic cuts, and there will be non-academic ones. Let's see how it plays out, but I would imagine sports would not be touched. If they are, it's the duplicative middle school programs (baseball, etc.) that would see the axe.

I was recently told Tazewell County is considering eliminating middle school and jv sports due to budget cuts. This is supposed to be discussed at the upcoming board meeting. Has anyone else heard of this happening?

Many GC fans from my observation aren't excited about the hire. That said the same people are working to try and support the coach.

GC is a successful program. They have fallen on hard times but they will get better again.

Coach Woodward has done a tremendous job with the wrestling program.  His assistant coach, Ben Fritz, has been a major help in bringing this program to the front.  Wrestling may be the best athletic program at Graham right now.  With the success of Cook and his achievements the last couple of years and this year Lester doing a really good job.  Cook went on to Tech and Lester is probably going to attend Liberty in the fall.  The kids really seem to like Woodward and Fritz.  Hopefully next year we can get Bradshaw to help out as well.  They have several kids in the youth program as well.  Graham is by no means a Grundy at this point but certainly heading in the right direction.

Congrats to both Grundy and Rural Retreat!!! Both programs are doing really well and representing SWVA.  We had several individual state champs and state placers from our area.  A great weekend for a sport that gets very little recognition.
