Gate City has probably played more games against Tennessee teams than anyone not named Virginia High. They had regular series with Sullivan North, Sullivan South, Tennessee High played Ketron, Lynn View, Church Hill before consolidation and played DB, Elizabethton and Daniel Boone.

If Gate City is able to win the game it would be number 600 for the program. The ability for Gate City to make in game adjustments is starting to be impressive and there is talent coming in the future. The culture has changed and the transition to 21st century football is almost complete. It is amazing that all you have to do sometimes is ask people to just go away and take the "rat poison" attitude with you.

Legion Field is a tough place to play, the stands are right on top of the field and contact is easy because of the condensed space. The seating arrangement is odd also at GC, the press box side is all reserved seating and the rest of the fans have to go to the other side to sit and the conduct by fans borders between inhospitable and down right obnoxious! When the stadium is full and rocking I could see the intimidation on the opposing team. Legion Field is (was) no different back in the day from Bullitt Park or Riggs Stadium or Pennington. As a Blue Devil Alum the worst place I was ever treated was Powell Valley and Appalachia.

First take a big deep breath and hold it for 5 seconds and exhale. I like the banners but I am not sure there are 27 street lights in Gate City to hang one for each championship, if there are them honor them with a street light. Gate City is suffering from the perfect storm of apathy, changing culture and the death "of the greatest generation"...let me explain! First the support issues Gate City athletics were supported by a mix of "old money" "coal money" and "community money" all that has changed. If Gate City needed anything the Smith family, the Kilgore family or the Humphrey family just wrote a check to get it, but the old money has died off, the coal money has dried up and the community just doesn't care that much any more. The opioid drug crises has crippled families and kids just don't care about playing sports like they used too. As a late 80's Alumni of Gate City you didn't need to display pride, we had it in our hearts and wore it on our sleeves at football games. The last decade of GC football has been horrible but there have been bad decades before and if they never win another State Championship at anything they have given me the the best days of my life (I have witnessed 4 of the 5 state championships) (and numerous other titles) and for that I am forever grateful. The Community support will return when the wins do in football. But by all means honor each state champion and also honor the 6 VHSL Hall of Famers who played or coached at GC ( Fry, Baker, Colobro, Reed, Sheets and Bishop) and realize that there are more HOFer's coming (Mac and Coach Gardner)....The banners are a good start but Basement Baller you are now the generation that must carry the torch and quit complaining about the past and do something for the future. Lead by example and fight on! Start an Alumni Group and raise money to buy the banners and the paint for the murals. Oh and I am proud to be from a Hick Town like Gate City!

Fire the AD for making this schedule 3-7 is a real possibility with a decent team!

You are talking about Scott County, evidently you have never lived there, The Good Ole Boys network goes on and on and on!

It has talked about since 1985 and they are no closer today than they were in 1985.

I will never say never but probably not in the next 20 years. To much politics from the GC sector, and not enough interest from the RC or TS side.

The M7 and the SWD need to merge and just be done with it....bring back the old SWD.....

Rye Cove hired Robbie Norris as the OC. they will run the wing T. The Wing T Robbie runs is perfect for a team of below average athletes, there are just maybe a dozen plays, usually less and work on deception. It is a beautiful offense to build on and with average athletes and he loves gadget plays. Westridge ran it to near perfection last season and Sullivan North did for years before that. They also hired B.I. Salyers who knows his way around the Cumberland. Collier is already recruiting the last of the remaining members of the Lee High football team to come to Rye Cove that are not going to Union.

Not every team can run the press, especially to the DB level! DB is a great team this season and I expect to see them in Murfreesboro in a few weeks.

No politics at all in Wise County!!!!!!!!!! I thought people said no politics at all at Wise Central....

The same group purchased Tri-Cities Christian School in Blountville and are building a new school in the Eastern Star area of Sullivan and Washington Counties they are suppose to build a similar school to Lakeway Really going to put a hurt on Westridge and Daniel Boone in the coming years. Basketball coach at Tri-Cites is Shane Williams (ex Science Hill and UT point guard) they don't have money problems at all. Oh and the school is White Pine, Tn. not any where close to Knoxville. K-town is 50 miles away.

Just don't cross the G Man and you will be find and people make stupid predictions on here all the time, just don't cross G Man or you will be cast into the outer realm....

You are either young and foolish or both! Never make any prediction that will live forever on the internet. The future is so unsure and if you any athletes that are D 1 level the prep schools and "Academy's" will come calling. Confidence is one thing but your comment borders on arrogance and life is cruel teacher.

DB is at an historically low ebb in talent right now but still good enough to beat most of the teams in the NE Tennessee area. They have a few good players coming but this upcoming senior class in middle school won one game between the two middle schools and it was against the other middle school. Betsy won't play DB but maybe they would play Union.

I was told by a retired DB AD that games against smaller schools are no win situations for DB, they can't do home and home with the small schools because of the logistics, most small schools can even sit DB's band. If DB played Union, no matter how good they were you not beating a 6A school because of depth and resources. DB has proven that they may never win a 6A title but they can beat any school not named Maryville consistently. If Union wants to play a Tennessee team call Tennessee High or Elizabethton that would be a games they could win occasionally

You are exactly right, they beat who was in front of them! Union will be a State Champion forever but the VHSL allowing JM to do what they have done is dishonest and almost criminal and goes against everything the VHSL supposedly stand for!

Because JM didn't play last season, that is the only reason they are 2A Champs!

Gate City's basketball team may have a bad year but they have a lot of talent in the system Scotty built, they will be back in the State Tournament sooner rather than later! There basketball future is strong!
