Money talks and LCA has it. They let the VHSL know they would tie them up in court until they had put them into bankruptcy is the simple truth of it. Since they are a private institution they can hold info back preventing anyone of showing positive proof of allegations which would jepardize their eligibility under the VHSL rules unlike a public school. Proof of my above statement just look at what is happening with the current lawsuits against LU for their handling of rape and discrimination. LU will win those suits with non disclosure settlements before it's over to keep everything possible out of the public eye further tarnishing their reputation. Sure LU and LCA are two different animals on paper but are they really?
Since 2015 and on i have said the C vs D game was probably the true State Championship game. Omitting the spring season we had i stil feel that way. I never have a good feeling when Appo plays region D teams, all of them are very tough outs year after year. Appo will come prepared and coach Smith's hawk eyes will spot things not too many others will notice and he will adjust as needed. Appo does not have the big talent of the past few years but we do have a squad of PO1 players that are coachable or else they would not be this far into playoffs. I look for a very close game and the win by only 3 points for either team. Appo will travel and bring a home team atmosphere to Bluefield for our players.
A very long two weeks, we buried a fellow officer, a killer put in jail , Union gets sent home , and Biden is still President. Just wanted to say thank you all who sent PM to me and our dept. I would like to add an observation about Coach Turner from yesterday’s game. In many games this season once Graham pulled starters, some teams left in their starters to score against our JV. I suppose to make the score look more respectable or to prove their varsity was superior to our JV. Coach Turner did not do that. I have great respect for him for that plus he runs a very good program, period (from an outsider’s perspective).
It is rare i have seen opposing teams sub out once we have pulled starters. Might be the coach does not want to admit defeat until 2 minutes are left on the clock.
That 2016 Appomattox team is arguably the best 2A team in VHSL history. I’m not sure it’s a winning argument, but you can make it and support it without immediately being discarded. They beat Heritage (Lynchburg), who was a 4A region finalist that season. They had 1 close game against Dan River. They obliterated everyone else.
Ferrel Edmunds would not reschedule that Dan River game it was played during a hurricane in torrential rain. The game would have been better played on an ice rink i believe.
I didn't see the 2016 Appo team but I did see the 2016 Riverheads team and they were one of the more impressive teams I've seen in along time. Like I said I can't compare them because I only seen one of the teams but if both teams were that good I sure would've liked to see that match up.

Nelson County is disastrously bad, so little can be gleamed from that.
I fully agree with you about Nelson. Will say this tho. Appo played alot of the bench and kept clean uniforms in the game for 2nd half and stil managed to score and keep Nelson scoreless. Appo is starting to click better and in the next few weeks with no injuries or covid issues i fully expect to see a team more than ready for playoffs. Hate to bad mouth Nelson, i have to give them a ton of respect as they never quit and played with heart and left their all on the field, great bunch of young men.
How many schools in SWVA play basketball against Oak Hill Academy? When i was there we played Galax and Fries (sp) and possibly Marion in 1973. If your stil playing them does it count?
In the past they have not counted, but this is a crazy year. Will also be interesting to see how many games are declared forfeits vs no-contest. I have no clue how to determine that except to wait on the VHSL.
Agree with you 100 percent. Im looking to see how the Appomattox vs Buckingham game counts or not.
