(1) Richlands allegedly holds kids back.
 
(2) Richlands allegedly plays an enforcer for the sole purpose of committing hard fouls.

He wasn't in the paint.....either time.  Hard fouls do happen, by people who can't play basketball... 
 
He didn't cry about it,  he just got up and torched Richlands for 30 Plus points.  In fact he had more points then Richlands' entire team before they took him out in the fourth quarter.  Doesn't look like crying to me.  

The conversation I heard was about if an assault could be filed in the courts if it was an intentional flagrant by one of the adults who play for Richlands.

They should be.  In both contests he was fouled very hard and intentionally.  In the first contest, it was right out of the gate when the 2nd half started.  Carlock was irate in the last game over it and he should have been.  I could not believe that the kid was not ejected or not even called for an intentional foul.  I'm starting to wonder if the kids were told to foul him hard in the locker room.  Very disappointed in how those situations were handled, no message was sent to those kids who made those fouls.

I hate to burst everyone's bubble from Richlands but I came down from Tech with a friend of mine to watch this much talked about matchup with him.
I am from the New River Valley and have never seen a Richlands Graham game
Here were my takes on it:
 
1. Graham would beat Richlands right now 15 out of 20 times. The other five times they would be resting their best players.
2. Graham has the best student body this side of Roanoke. I always thought the George Wythe "Soldiers" were the best. Not anymore.
3. The PG who had outscored Richlands by himself in the 4th qtr is hard to handle and may be bad news for anyone in the postseason. And from what the PA guy said he is a junior. Wow!
4. Richlands if they are good and if they have a dream team they played like a nightmare. I hope I never have a dream like that in my life. Just give the tourney championship to Graham. They are the best team by far.
5. The Graham beardown will continue into.the future. The JV team came back to beat Richlands in OT. Richlands should have won that one too. Graham is stacked for the future.
Not sure they could hang with Martinsville but all the other teams in the West better watch out. Even the much hyped Gate City and this Union team you talk of. If Union has any inside game at all and a good guard? Union would beat Richlands by 30. Richlands is not very good.
 
These are just my takes.

Next year conferences will no longer exist, only districts and we will move back to an almost similar set up to what we used to have.  There will be 4 regions instead of 2 with each region consisting of 2 districts.  Clinch Mountain district will have Abingdon, Central, Union, Ridgeview, Battle, Lee, Gate City.  Everybody will play twice in the CM District.  Abingdon will play in the district tournament, but must compete in 3A for their region tournament. Southwest District will include Tazewell, Richlands, Virginia High, Lebanon, Graham, and Marion if I'm not mistaken.
 
The only odd ball thing is that Grayson County will not be in either of these two districts, but will compete in the region with Clinch Mountain and Southwest District teams.  Unless something changes, for basketball, 4 teams will advance to make an 8 team region tournament.
 
Seeding Abingdon in a 3A region tournament will be difficult, as will be seeding Grayson County in this region's tournament.

Richlands is playing 5 adults. 

Milo, you are correct that if you win first round of 2A West, you're guaranteed at least 3 more games.  Region semifinal, region final/consoloation, state quarterfinal.
 
Hokiebird7, If you hate this format, you would love 2A East, where they take 4 teams per conference for a 16 team region tournament.  Lol

No GC fan believes that, not even the most ardent supporters. You play any team 20 times, there's gonna be one time when one team is incredibly hot and the other is incredibly cold.
 
But keep denigrating Union, I'm sure Richlands folks appreciate all the junk you're talking. I've not once said anything negative about RHS, but you sure seem intent on downing Union and believing there's no way Union can go to Richlands and win.
 
How many Union games have you seen this year? You mention McClung, there is no doubt he's the best around. But I've yet to see a team stop Slagle, a kid that can single handedly best bad or mediocre teams. Inside and out, with a strong base and great basketball IQ.
If Union advances, the semi game against Central or Battle is still worrisome, I hope the arrogance you display seeps it's way into the RHS locker room.
 
One more thing; since Union couldn't beat GC in 20 tries, could Richlands? What do the Blues possess that makes them so much better than the Bears?

Why do that? These are high school kids.  I wish them all well. I'll pull for Richlands, and congratulate them all, because I'm an adult, and they are kids.

Correct, it pretty much is meaningless, as I said in the other thread. But it's only meaningless for Richlands when it suits their agendas.

I seem to remember Richlands doing the Super Bowl Shuffle last year after beating a Graham team in the SEC Tournamemt, a Graham team that was far from full strength. I also remember that Richlands team crapping itself in the first game of Region play, driving their region-and-beyond record to 0-infinity.
 
No game means "anything" until Richlands meets Union in a couple of weeks. I'll take Union, because history.

Skip this thread and move to Union @ Richlands and Graham @ Gate City.   This is the meaningless SEC tournament. " Much ado about nothing!"

Richlands sure as hell celebrated like they won the super bowl last year after getting that "meaningless trophy."

Carlock did an excellent job in not letting Richlands get the ball in transition.  Very good defensive effort tonight for Graham, not allowing Richlands to get in the paint and being patient on offense.
 
On a side note, I was very disappointed to see Martin for Graham fouled very hard in each contest by Richlands in what looked to be flagrant fouls, yet the officials failed to call the flagrant.  The one tonight could have justified an ejection in my opinion.  I may be a little biased, but there is no place for that in basketball.  

Nope. Just a simple twitter search and knowing the roster lol. Plus I'm a member of the media and therefor use Twitter extensively. So I see their tweets anyways.

Asking me to simmer down implies I am somehow upset, which isn't so.  Far too many kids in SWVA peak in high school.  Kudos to this kid for not wanting to be one.

Not sure I follow!?!?!  Dime a dozen?  Most 17 year olds can't decide to get college application paperwork submitted in a timely fashion.  Here, we have a young man showing drive and initiative.  Neither are very prevalent with the millennial generation.
 
Athletic motivation or not, he is motivated.  Something else not common with the millennial generation.  And he is getting shit for it on a message board!
 
Perspective, I guess!

My former boss was an early enrollee at VT in the mid 90's knowing full well he would likely never see the field.  He was ridiculed by kids and adults alike in his hometown, mainly for his choice to not play basketball as a high school senior.  He used the additional semester to prepare himself for the rigors of the math associated with an engineering curriculum.  Statics, Thermal Dynamics, Strength of Materials and Accelerated Calculus among others are no joke!!!!!!!  Nor can many high schools prepare you for what those classes entail.  This is the main reason freshman engineering students are called "Pre-Business" majors.
 
He was on the team for five full seasons, rarely seeing the field and graduated with honors a few months following a national championship appearance.  His stature as a former player has opened doors for him as a professional engineer that otherwise would have been closed.  His career has been greatly enhanced based on the choices he made as a 17 year old kid.  
 
Cut this kid some slack and lets see where his dreams take him!
