Your last sentence is spot on.

It's hard to tell a 9th or 10th grader that's been standing on the sidelines to hold back. Those guys want to prove they are the next best thing. I can see both sides of the coin.

2017, we lost a starter on the second series of the game. Another went out before halftime , both came out in street clothes for the second half.

We were down at the half and relied on backups to help us battle back to win that game. They needed the experience they gained running our offense in the regular season blow outs.

Im fine with kicking field goals when your up. Special teams can win you big games. They need as many reps as they can get.

  2. I’ve always said to keep the hammer down if you got your two and threes in. Now in 2015 and 2016 Appomattox’s twos would run lots of teams off the field. In that case have your threes in but OPERATE YOUR offense.
You are always an injury away from needing a backup in the playoffs that needs that experience throwing the ball or running that route.
You can win BIG and still be respectful.

With playing what i consider a very weak schedule this year i'm not looking forward to playoffs. Appo might be ready for them by then but the young men have a ways to go.

Yea, that ain’t helping the team. They really need to work for one. Wish we could bring in one of the Seminole teams instead of the ones we are playing a second time.
Win or loose the battle is needed.

Appomattox has as many athletes as ever but doesn’t seem as strong or deep along the lines as previous vintages.  Still perfectly capable of winning it all, however, and should rightly be considered the favorite until dethroned.

Staying healthy is going to be very important for them.

Y’all ever gonna take a step backwards? 😂😂

Lol! Not saying we aren’t now. Just trying to improve weekly now.

I believe Region D is probably the deepest this year with Central, Graham, Ridgeview, Tazewell, Union and Richlands.  But I do believe that Appomattox is the team to beat once again.

Lots of improvement to be done! I’m sure the coaches will be working and pushing them hard this week.

I for one like keeping up with the Raiders.  They are the top dog in VA 2A right now.  I plan on watching.  This will be a bigger challenge for the Raiders than what Alta Vista posed.

    Without a doubt.

I'm worried about some of the mind sets right now.  Confident is one thing but cocky is another.  One of our older players that some might remember was, Javon Scruggs. He walked this line perfectly in my opinion, supremely confident in his abilities but was ALWAYS one of the hardest workers on the practice field.

Not all of the Raiders like this but more than I care to see.

  6. Two big winners from last week battle tonight as the Raiders travel to William Campbell.
WC look like they have good size up front and appear to be very aggressive. They also look to have some good athletes on the field. It should be a good match up and I hope the Raiders are ready to play and not just show up expecting the win. If that happens I feel they could get more than they are ready for.

Not sure how the other districts are handling things, but the M7 is allowing 2 tickets per player and 1 ticket per band member/cheerleader for home teams. Visiting teams are allowed 1 or 2 tickets per player depending on size of team. Neither band nor cheerleaders allowed for visiting teams. Names must be on a list, and I saw a post from Gate City that required a photo ID for admittance to their stadium. No general fans allowed.

Sure wish our district would allow visiting families.  They wont even allow the parents of the seniors from the visiting team in to watch!!!

The things that were instilled in us by our parents, coaches, teachers, etc. are going away in the blink of an eye.  It is been coming and many didn't notice or they didn't want to admit it.

You are exactly right!!!  I wouldn't say that it wasn't noticed, just ignored or even worse "justified away".

Craig County is not doing football this Spring due to there not being enough players. Many of the players are academically ineligible.

Which is probably a result of the fact they had very little incentive to keep their grades up with no sports in the fall.

Lots of kids they only reason they try to keep their grades up is to play sports.  Remove that "reward" and some will barely do anything to help themselves.

The truth is in the middle.

High school football is not what every 15-18 year old boy aspires to and is inspired by anymore.  There are infinite pursuits that are competing for the time of our youth in this millennium, when there were much more limited avenues in yesteryear.

With the “rise-and-grind” mindset that’s pumped into the current generation, I don’t think it’s the work ethic that’s lacking.  There are some extraordinary things being done by youth that aren’t seen in an athletic context.  But it is passion that inspires those pursuits. Getting barked at by a coach doesn’t excite the passion that it did in a previous generation.  A kid can just as easily apply himself to something else.

A good coach, though one that may be gruff, doesn’t have the entire student body population clamoring to play anymore.  It’s not nearly as simple as kids not having a backbone or work ethic.

While this is probably true in some cases I also know that there are some kids who simply don't want to "commit" to the program the way a winning program requires.  Their are parents that let their kids quit things when they get tough, don't teach them that when you start something -you finish it. Sitting at at home in front of the video game is much easier than being held accountable for workouts and conditioning. See it every day in the schools systems.

BHC said 2 tickets per player in VA is the rule. Didn’t mention coaches or anything.

Is that for your away games as well?

At very least they should allow senior parents to away games.  That cant be but a handful.

  12. What's everyone's thoughts on who makes it?

Out of the east I'm not too familiar with teams but I know Buckingham should be loaded and Draft should be good again,

    Region D

I'm hearing Wise should be good but I know you can't count Graham out of the running (they should be talented)

    Region C

Appomattox should be fine if they can fill some spots along the line.  Radford, and Glenvar I think should be right in it as well.

4 teams per region, then state semis and state finals. (unless all hell breaks loose)

Teams not making the playoffs have the option of a "plus one" game.  Meaning they can play a 7th game if they can get one scheduled once the playoffs begin.

So, just to confirm that is a possibility of 4 playoff games if you reach the championship game?

    Am I reading that right?

Tickets are anywhere from 480 bucks to 1000 bucks for one ticket.  Average right now is 675 dollars for 1 ticket.  Now, is this insane or what?  Coastal Carolina is allowing 5,000 to be inside the stadium.   Last of all, the BYU football team is landing at 3 pm, and I got lucky.  The local stake center here in Myrtle Beach are feeding the team this evening and I get to go.  In LDS, a "ward" is a church, and a "stake" is basically a group of churches/region headquarters.  The "stake" will have a large center inside of it for meetings, dinners, etc.  Based on the short notice, local members were asked to help with the food and my wife volunteered as she loves to cook.  It's going to be a fun evening and weekend.

    That's awesome!
