A dunk is still worth 2 points. Doesn’t help much when you’re trailing by 15 late!

    Just saying!

I’m a GC fan and agree — I cringed when I saw this on our Twitter. This is going to happen, not going to make up that spread with the G-Men D.

Bluefuled should start playing in the Arby’s ;)

  2. I wish — pains me as a GC fan that we don’t have a regular live radio option. I haven’t been able to find a Graham or independent broadcast either...would also appreciate a link if it’s available. Twitter (GC and Graham) is probably our only update source tonight.

And Gate City will beat Graham by 30+...what's your point???

My point was to poke fun of the ridiculous post in this thread that indicated: 1) The M7 was “impervious” and 2) Holding WC to a certain score was somehow an accomplishment worth highlighting. Even from a political standpoint this post is funny as you won’t find many coming to the rescue of WC in the M7...at least not during prime Wal Mart working / shopping hours ;)

I also attempted to weave in another jab from a previous thread — that was dripping with hubris — imploring the entire board to realize Graham’s only losses were to Bluefield and that in any other year in the past decade plus that this would be a legitimate state championship contender.

I’m not certain that GC will win (much less, win by 30+). I think they are probably the best team in 2A, but at the end of the day, it’s high school basketball and there aren’t any certainties.

If the competition plays such a huge part in the record, then why has it not been done before?  Not saying you are diminishing him or anything but others have said that before too and I just do t but it.  I get that the competition helped a little but it still is all about Mac and his athleticism and talent that done it as well as his teammates.

    I agree — there’s a reason it was a 25 year old record.

That's pretty cool that a SWVA kid has the single season scoring record but I have to wonder how many Iverson would've scored playing against SWVA competition most of the time and vice versa McClung playing the competition Iverson played in Hampton.

Probably about the same — legitimate scorers score. Mac scored 26, 44, 28, and 39 (for a ~34 ppg average) against N Meck, Fern Creek, Lakota East, and Cleveland. Those teams — particularly N Meck and FC — are generally better than teams in the 757 area, so I don’t think you’d have seen a major drop off in point totals if Mac was playing in Hampton.

  6. Good day at the Arby's for SWVA -- Congrats to Luke Lawson from Eastside on winning the dunk contest!

Mac and Zac did not participate. It's unconfirmed, but I'm assuming this is based on their upcoming 6th place game against Lakota East tomorrow.

  7. Given the opening rounds, I like North Meck to win the tournament this year -- they should roll Landstown big time tonight.

I was also pretty impressed with Webb in their opener against a talented Fern Creek team. Webb is currently leading Columbia, GA by 24-9 at halftime and they (Columbia) crushed Science Hill by 30 in the first round. If this game holds Webb and North Meck could be an interesting Semi final.

  8. I really like the humility and class Mac and Zac demonstrated in their comments, but as has been indicated, N Meck was/is a tall order for GC.

I think the trap for Mac in this game could have been trying to do too much -- I think they both played really well and stopped short of forcing looks and over extending. Aside from his point total, Mac created a lot last night. He fed Zac on some of his threes and got Dean and others involved in some looks that just didn't go down. Solid effort.

Sad sad day for Big Blue Nation if this is true. I'll be surprised if they have enough kids come out to field a team. On another note, will definitely be easy to find a seat when the Big Blue faithful come to Legion Field.

I wouldn't count on th additional seating at Legion. As a stop gap until Akers is fired we are installing basketball goals in the end zone areas for the GC B-ball team to dunk on between plays and at halftime. I think we'll still draw a good crowd.

My source says the goals will be removed when Football returns to prominence in 2021.
