    Gc vs ab

I would imagine they would be eligible since their school is closing. This scenario wouldn't be kids coming to GC for an athletic advantage. I guess it would ultimately be decided by the powers at be. I believe the North coach was interested when we ended up with Akers so maybe he would still be interested now that the school is closing, if it's the same coach. I believe there are good coaches around here but you have to think the salary isn't great but the expectations are very high.

Kids aren't the same everywhere you go. Take a bunch of kids right now from a school that isn't used to winning on a yearly basis and put them at Graham, Union, or Richlands and tell me how much they would like the coach. Winning programs don't just show up in the fall, there is a lot of work that has to be done in the offseason and some kids may not like that if they aren't used to it. I'm not saying Reed would turn GC around by any means but you can't just throw something like "ask what kids at Central or Abingdon think about him." If they aren't used to winning then more than likely they aren't used to putting in the work that winning programs expect out of their players.

Nobody knows if Reed would be the answer for GC next year but everybody knows Akers isn't. Whoever the new coach , hopefully next season, will be somebody who can reenergize the program and get the kids excited again and want to come out and play. Unfortunately, GC has hit such a low it will take longer than 1-2 years to get back to being competitive again. This is a young team and with the right leadership maybe in 3-4 years they can be a playoff team again. Abingdon will have a field day in the passing game and call it quits early in the second half. Margin of victory does nothing for teams in high school so I don't see it being a story.

  5. GC was 4-1 against TN High but they are currently 1-8 vs Sullivan South. That's just the most recent not counting Sullivan Central which they were 3-1.(Courtesy of fourseasonsfootball.com) SWVA teams may be able to compete every few years but realistically the top teams in SWVA aren't going to dominate the top NETN. I get that the best Union team may have a chance but not on a yearly basis. You play DB or Science Hill every year and it won't be a winning record.
  6. If I remember correctly he plays on both sides of the ball. In the first half he almost had a td but the defender deflected the ball.
  7. What seems to be Richlands strength on offense also seems to be Unions weakness on defense, passing game. I think Richlands can get hurt by Unions overall speed as well. Should be another good game between the two though.

  9. GC special teams was the bright spot of the night. They had a couple of big plays, granted Richlands was kicking off a lot, but never could do anything with it. The defense was put into difficult situations because of turnovers but I felt like they played decent. The offense couldn't get out of its own way. If I'm not mistaken they didn't get a first down until the 2nd half. Richlands has some tall receivers which I thought they'd use more than they did. It's hard to tell how good Richlands is because of how bad GC is. Next week will be a better indication on how good they are.
  10. I figured Union would struggle tonight. They did last year too if I remember correctly. I don't think it reflects how good they really are though.
  11. Here is a link to the write up on Mitchell in case no one has seen it. https://247sports.com/college/virginia-tech/Article/Virginia-Tech-Football-James-Mitchell-is-impressing-during-his-true-freshman-fall-camp-120934415/
  12. It's a preseason top 5. They haven't played a game yet so it's just speculation. I believe the biggest factor that played into them ranking them 1 is because the amount of starters returning from the success they had last season. Ridgeview has high hopes for the year and same for Union but Union lost good talent from last year so let's not get so worked up over this.
  13. Not so fast my friends!! Richlands by a late field goal! I think the first half will be closer than expected, but Richlands will pull away in the 3rd quarter.
  14. Was there enough at the beginning of the season and kids just quit? I wonder why that happened if so. That is very sad to hear though.
  15. Union will win but I don't think the score will reflect how dominant they will be over Burton.
  16. This will unfortunately be a looooooong trip for the generals and their parents. The best outcome I can see is take an overnight bag, get a hotel room and enjoy Bristol on Saturday before heading back to Lee County.
  17. This comes across to me as the type of game that the winner will be the one who has the ball last. I believe it will be a high scoring game.
  18. I agree with you Great City. I do believe coaching is to blame to an extent but the talent level is just too far down right now for coaching to be the main reason. I'd love it if GC's down year was a 6-5 or something instead of 1-9. You have to rebuild from the ground up meaning little league to 8th grade. There is something broke between the two somewhere for the varsity to be in this kind of funk.
  19. I believe it's a combination of it being a down cycle and bad coaching.
  20. GC is just in one of them low places that will take awhile to get out of. I honestly don't think it would have mattered who was hired as the coach, there just isn't enough talent interested in playing right now. Maybe in a few years another big group of kids will come through and build the program back up again.
  21. I'd say you're right because wasn't last years score kinda close too?
  22. Boone, TN girls LL softball team finished 2-2 in pool play and advance. They play today at 4:00 pm eastern against Louisiana. It's now single elimination so if they lose they are done.
  23. Is there any type of financial penalty a school would have to pay for something like this? I know if they don't have the numbers, they don't have the numbers, but to wait until this close to the start of games seems odd. I understand they wanted to hold off as long as they could but now other schools will have a hard time finding opponents with common open dates.
  24. Since 1994. VA has been represented at the LLWS 8 different times.
