Just wondering why Richlands was pulled into this thread as the "all mighty Richlands". Don't think I have seen a Richlands fan call the Blues all mighty on this thread this year. They are in a down cycle starting last year but are still playing well. They don't have the talent that other teams do so some teams are getting a little payback for the past 10-15 years. Its going to happen no matter who the team is. Please lets keep this thread all about Union and Graham. Go to the Ridgeview/Richlands thread to discuss them.

It’s a sad case of kicking a top notch program while they are down. Sounds like that are bragging about the law of averages kicking in too😂. Nothing but respect for the Richlands program from this fan. Good luck Saturday. I know there are few other teams glad they don’t have to play y’all Saturday.

Here’s something for all you graham fans.

@GMan @EH31 @Gridiron60 And all of the others.

A few of us will be having a big campout starting friday night At the park. Fire pit, food, games, etc. Saturday when you all get there please come over and say hello for a bit. It would be fun to attach some faces to names.

Brilliant idea. I’d love to get to know some of you guys. I’ll be at the game at the Union fire pit per invite. May even camp out with those crazy guys if they do it again this year.

  3. I’ve been waiting for this tread to take this turn. How no one can match Graham’s speed. No one can match up with them. Their top players are better than every other teams. I’m sorry guys. But didn’t y’all sing this song last year?  Until y’all win something, stop claiming titles in early November. This may be the year y’all take down Union. May be the year y’all overcome the Bullitt hump. But I think Turner is still the better coach. I’m prolly gonna get the hammer dropped on me for speaking badly about graham. But up is up. Graham wins Saturday, then I will tip my cap. But I’m still not so sure the Region D is a lock for y’all.  One game at a time. Union is still the Region D champs. They still own Graham’s butt until y’all take it back. Once again, good luck to both teams and safe travels.

  4. Game location is the factor. Bears by a score. Gmen struggles at the Park continue. Bears are being overlooked I think due to losses to solid teams. Should be a good one. Look for Union to ground and pound to limit Graham’s TOP. Good luck to both teams and may they both come out injury free.

We all know that Cam Allen of Graham is the best player in this coverage area. But after watching the game today I honestly believe Devin Lester is the 2nd best player in the coverage area.

Not so sure I can agree sir. Your research is second to none. But we may want to table the convo until after next week. Ridgeview has a solid D1 prospect of their own. Very good chance y’all meet them if ya make it out of the Park. Last years Union game is the only time I’ve seen these two young men from Graham play. And they were non factors. And I say that, with respect, due to a vary solid Union defense that supposedly didn’t match up speed wise to that Graham team. Can Allen has next level talent and I look forward to seeing his progress.

What a #wvprepfb game Hedgesville and Parkersburg South just played.
Hedgesville goes ahead with 1:57 left.
Parkersburg South scores with 19 seconds left and converts two-point conversion.
    Hedgesville returns ensuing kickoff.
Final: Hedgesville 35, Parkersburg South 29.

Everyone knows the rollercoaster of a season that Giles had this year. Low numbers, multiple injuries, young athletes, too much team drama and a senior class that didn’t show much leadership. Tonight’s loss put Giles at 5-6, making it the first losing season the Spartans have had since 1987.

I am struggling to process all this, which I guess is normal being a spoiled ass fan and expecting my team to win 8+ games a year....but I’m excited for the years to come as I envision Giles will become a threat once again! I will spend the next 4 weeks bouncing around from county to county to watch everyone else that’s left!

Have always looked at the Giles program with admiration. I’m sure they will bounce back strong next season.

Holy crap, what happened in Region 1A???  Upset city. And it wasn’t even close games. Wonder how the 2v7 game will shake out.   Can honestly say I’ve never seen a bracket get that messed up in the first round. I’m sure it has. I’ve  just never noticed it. Wow. Just wow. Nice work underdogs!

The post was about how good it would be to see Union come down those stairs, these kids are from big stone east stone Appalachia and all the coal camps around , and maybe Lee county too. Most of these kids had dads , uncles ect from both PV and Appalachia that played there. We should always be linked to the tradition of the past, that’s all, Riggs Stadium is not a dump no more than Cummins field is. Our kids picked the name Union to link the two schools as well as blending the two school colors into one,  I may be an old fan but that just means I have seen so much more football than you youthful guys. I am one of those guys who would rather watch a game at Lambo than at Jerry world, tradition counts, I love The Park but damn man Riggs would rock

Prolly the coolest post I’ve read of yours jarhead.

What?  How dare they cancel a game at Bullit Park.  Well I guess there is a first time for everything.  dang entitled kids and coaches.  and so on and so on.

Entitled?  Union is a blue collar community. Your thinking central.  The 92 state title game played by Appy at Bullitt was postponed until Sunday.  It does happen. Mother Nature is being a tool this year for sure.

I was fortunate to play against Coach T. Dotson..Mr. Riggs..Mr. Harry Frye..PV Coaches..Coach Dave Ryder and Mr. Cummins.

We would have taken care of this situation in the locker room or on the practice field..BEFORE it occurred on the field/court/diamond.

The Helicopter Moms..Lawnmower Dads..Grandstand Usta' Bees have weakened the character and ownership responsibility of our student-atheletes.

I will not be popular on this Forum so bring it.

You have reset the bar good sir!  I’m a fan!

Come on man. Not cool. Gman, where you at. You dropped a suspension on a guy for making a harmless, silly joke about bluefield football. This is way beyond that.

Regardless of what people “know” or think they know, this isn’t the place to pop off at the mouth about it. I don’t know the young man or his situation. And regardless if he walked on water or stole from children, he has a family that is having to deal with his passing right now. I don’t know the details and don’t care. Not my place. I’ll pray for the family.

My boys here in Radford had a crazy game with Gate City last year. The white kid had mad skillz. Now that he is gone and going over what I saw in the playoffs here is my preview for this way to early basketball poll. Feel free to comment.

    1.  Radford - Our guys havent forgot the last game they played and who they faced. Word on the Avenue is the Cats want a piece of that title held by Gate City and plan on taking it by force. Bobcats take it all this year. No questions.

With QMR, Cormany, Jones and company we will have the title in hand come March. But for Gate City all you have to say is No Mac McClung.... No State Title.

Nice run but it's done now.

    2.  Dan River

    3. Goochland

    4. East Rockingham

    5. Martinsville

    6. Appomattox

    7. Central-Wise. -  Had friends who went to watch Gate City play this team in their conference tourney and said without the Mac kid this team would have beat them.  Gate City is upset early by this team this year.

    8. Gate City - Watched Gate City play at Radford. Without the Mac kid they do not go anywhere. The tall white kid Irving is good but not as good as the pogo stick. The other kid Deans I think it is didnt do much that I saw. They will be very easy to guard and what I saw from the program not very athletic or tough. The Blue Devils get one year to experience a championship.  It's back to normal this year with the Cats.

    9. Glenvar - The Landers had a young team last year and played very competitive. Keep an eye out.

Tie 10. Robert E. Lee - Staunton -  New head coach in second year and they lose a transfer guard and Vaughn who is going to Old Dominion. Lee will be competitive but not their old selves. Getting stunned in state took some steam out of their sails. If Lee makes it out of East somehow they get the Cats. Not much better for them again either.

    Tie 10. Central Woodstock

Been hitting the medical weed hard huh??

  14. TJ will have to coach now. Not that he can. Maybe he will focus on his team and not his family playing for him. That said, he’s still dirty. Will tell his players to do dirty things. I pray Isaiah recovers quickly. Injuries suck. Not sure TJ should be allowed to coach as interim principal anyway. Not sure how that works. Hope they players have a great season, as that’s the only reason they will be successful.

What example can you give of Graham not being able to play on the road? Just curious.

Short answer (and not trying to be a prick about it) last two trips to Bullitt Park. Last year had all the speed in their favor. Was never even in the game. Little bit more of a game a couple years prior, 2014 or 15 best I remember.

  16. Ridgeview wins the Region D2. Graham crumbles, doesn’t have the moxie. Can’t handle not playing at home it seems. Coach Mullins will handle business on Rose Ridge. I think Union can go a couple games deep. Never count them out though. May go to the region finals. If graham has to come to the park, I go with Union. Grayson Co seems to be struggling late.  Richlands is always up for an upset

Region D1,  Chilhowie is at the top until proven otherwise. Burton isn’t close to knocking them off.

Welcome to the board.  In '97, Gate City was in the Highlands district. They didn't rejoin the LPD until they dropped back down to A-Div 2 in 2000 I think.

I thought Dinwiddie was 4A. That's were they are listed on the master schedule and weekly ratings.

Thanks pal. You are correct. 5a was a typo on my part.

I cant believe no one has mentioned the fact that Abingdon,  "They are what we thought they were, and we let them off the hook!"  They are a 3A school allowed to play down in division 2. That was voted on and allowed by your Mountain 7 schools principals.  Now I'm not a genius, but how does it make sense or keep the playing field level and fair for all teams that play in division 2A? Or how is it fair to other teams that play in 3A that don't get to play down in 2A like Abingdon .  Not only are they allowed to play down, but join the 2A conference, then allowed to win the district and then move in and play in a 3A  playoffs.  How is that fair form a 3A standpoint?  It's not about losing to a Abingdon sports team, but it could be the fact that they way they celebrate after beating a smaller team school size .  If my 16 year old beats my 12 year old like he should, and struggles with that,  and celebrates  like he just won the super bowl!  Is the 12 year old really a sore loser, or commended for they efforts more than the loss?  Do we put it in the paper or televise it like it's some big accomplishment for a 3A school?  Do we except the excuse from Abingdon that they cant drive up 81 to play or find 3A teams to play because of travel? LOL .... Don't be fooled like our Mountain 7 principals have been. Here is  a list of schools they could play if someone really wanted to do homework .  The 3A school with in driving distance that they should be playing is: Pulaski , Christiansburg, Cave springs, Blacksburg ,Northside.  That would be the same driving distance for Abingdon as going to Ridgeview , union , wise , or even Lee co .  Who are we fooling?  Abingdon has enrollment to play in 3A  and and its about 400 to 500 students more than any other 2A school.  We can allow Abingdon to be BILL Clinton and say he didn't  inhale,  or hold our principals accountable  for allowing such stupidity.  Why do we allow a 3a school to strip the joy from our kids that work hard and after a hard fought season; because Abingdon don't want to drive up interstate 81 to play their own division.  It's way to laughable.  I really cant see that it could even be arguable.  if i played poker I don't give my opponent 10 cards every game then pat him on the back win he wins.  I don't have any kids playing football and I do not work for a school system.  I have been reading for years and have wanted  to post but I never have before because I don't want to argue over non sense stuff. I have pondered on this for 2 weeks and just cant understand how a 3A school gets so much attention and praise for wining a 2a division. Even coach Turner said it to the Bristol paper Quote,  "Abingdon is a good team that will do well in class 3A playoff ."  What do you think he is trying to say?  Read between the lines people.  This is a Bristol paper quote from a Abingdon player, “We want everybody to know what the Abingdon Falcon football program is all about,” Crosswhite said.  LoL really? You're barley beating the best teams in 2A . If someone wants to schedule Abingdon and play them as a non conference game, I get it. But for them to win a 2A district title is laughable. Jimbo Adams would shit himself if union , wise, or Ridgeview was allowed to play down in division 1,  and take away from him winning  the Cumberland almost every year.   So I cant wait to hear the excuses for allowing for such stupidity!  Why allow Abingdon to dictate the fairness of having divisions in football?  Please go ask your principals of the Mountain 7 this question, but don't let them fool you and blame the VHSL  for this stupidity .   Do we Punish our on Conference because of a 3A schools location especially when you have interstate  81 to drive on?

This isn’t a valid argument. Hopewell high school, the defending 3a state champs plays in the central district. Always has. Thomas Dale (6a) and Dinwiddie (5a) are in this district. Both have recent state titles in their classes. That’s a tough district. They have always been in it together along with other tough schools from 3-6a. The M7 and Central districts aren’t the only ones who have this. It’s no different than the old LPD under the old classification. Appy, pound, clintwood and norton class A div1. Pv, kelly and counting class A div 2. Gate city was class AA some. What were they in 97 when the triple title happened?  We’re they LPD that year?  Could have had three classifications in one district that year too. Yes, I’m from the other end of the state. But I’ve been around here long enough and enjoy the local programs history to learn about it. Abingdon really comes out on the short end having to play in the M7 due to not playing AAA schools. Helps the smaller schools. I am not a fan of Abingdon. But don’t mind playing them either. It’s football. It’s our 11 against their 11. Shut up and snap the ball!
