So how is it fair that a college stadium is in the mix for best high school stadium. Were there others like that. Hardly seems fair to public school owned complexes to go against a college one.

I know few questions & answers has already went around on different topics...But since we played Abingdon tonight what are some things UNION done Good, Bad and Ugly??
And things we could improve going forward?

We are beat down. Physically we are just wore down. These kids played their best ball early in the year and came out on fire in the first half against Ridgeview or they wouldn’t have won that game. After they beat Graham they haven’t played like they’re capable. 

Yeah but that was a special Graham team that could not be stopped. 
Bullitt has a magic that Graham certainly has felt in the past. 

I remember some teams from this area that went 5-5 and won state championships. I like to believe some of the best football in the state is in this area.

I think you're about half right,  every team does have a flaw but not all are fortunate enough to have a staff well versed enough to exploit the other and/or protect their own.   With that being said,  region d champ will have as much of a chance as anyone else come December with or without d1 due to the physical play as always. I don't recall that many d1 players on the past title winners/contenders.  Swva kids usually have that little edge but there are always exceptions to everything. I hope you're wrong.

Dude, since you are an Appy guy, a true story for you that makes this a small world.  I would stay with a local guy and his wife when I would go down that way for derailments which was about 5 times. He was older than me, but was kind of the local railroad host, him and his wife when I would go to Andover and that area in the early 90s for derailments. His son played on two Appy state title teams I think in 91 and 93 or 92 and 94ish, and he started on the line for three seasons. I lost contact with this local dude by 1995. We just fell out of touch as I left the railroad.
Fast forward to 2018 and I get a condo at the beach. I'm moving my stuff in and the wife and I are getting it ready for renting and a guy offers us help moving some stuff in and boom, it's him. He lives next door.  He and his wife had lived at the beach for 19 years. I hadn't seen him in nearly 25 years and out of the blue, there he is.
My wife and I just went to the beach this past Saturday and returned yesterday. The first thing he asked me this time was, "what happened to them G-Men." I knew he would go there, but oh well, a good dude. He's a lot older now, and a die-hard Union guy that follows them closely.

I feel that district champs should automatically get a playoff birth. That way, every team would know from day 1 if they win their district they get in. If a team fails to win their district, it's their own fault...regardless of how many good teams are in the district. Football used to be different from every other sport in that regular season games could sink you in a hurry. Sometimes there were no second chances. Now days, everyone gets a second chance...and a third chance, and sometimes a fourth chance with the bloated playoff system we have now. Every team should have a defined path from the start, though, and not have to solely rely on a flawed ratings system, imo. Settle it on the field at one point or another for every team...if it's settled by a regular season game for the district title, so be it.

I couldn’t agree more.  With Coach McAmis Jr on the floor you will have Sr. yelling at his players from the bench along with Jr yelling at his own teammates as well while playing!  Makes it 100% complete!
Should be great games!  Wise has 7 seniors?  GC has Dean, Compton, Sallee, George, Mack and Hensley.  Providing they all stay healthy out of football season, this could be a good group of seniors as well! 
Not to mention role players on bench like Reed, Gose and Starnes!  
Not sure how far this group can go. After this group of seniors graduate, there will be very few tough players coming in behind them from what I’ve seen the last few years from our younger groups.  
The past few groups that have graduated and brought us success had a different type of mindset than these guys coming up now!  We have some Juniors who could be our really last good class of players with a lot of physical toughness and skill but after that?  Going to be some lean years I believe.  We will lose tons of rebounding inside after Reed and Gose leave in 2021!  Going to be very very weak inside!
 

Something interesting about this game, it is still listed on the Kentucky scoreboard site. Pic below. So, I guess it will come down to how the VHSL views it. Not sure about all, but several of the school playing Bland chose NOT to take the forfeit out of fear it would have hurt their rating. If VHSL views it as a legitimate forfeit, then it will be counted as a win for Pikeville. Giving Ridgeview 2 pts if they win or 1 pt if they lose.

Gaming may not be the best choice but they have taken advantage of a flawed system. Playing Burton and Honaker should not garner the same base points as Graham and Richlands. 
 
It ain’t RVs fault but there’s a problem here.

Even though you were being sarcastic it still brings up a good topic for teams playing cupcakes. getting Their goal of not playing tougher competition may be because they know they can win and obtain a higher seed for the playoff with the hopes that playing at home will be to their benefit.
As for rebuilding I will agree that a weaker schedule is the way to go for a team that has been down for several years. Getting some wins may be the only way to generate some excitement and desire to play in up and coming kids. This however is hard to do when there are a couple teams in your district that are big dogs each year.

That makes more sense. Thanks for the info pal. Our boys are battle tested. That shows now based on our record and teams we’ve beat. Was hoping to camp out at the Park thru the playoffs lol. Looks like RV may have slipped one by us. Gonna be interesting to see how things shake out. Thanks again for the info.

So what is the pint of playing tougher competition lol. I was sure that you got lower points for playing down. But you are on top of this stuff and I look for your posts to figure things out. Typical vhsl I guess haha. RV May stay ahead of us if this is the case with their 1a OOC. Bunch of crap lol. But if Pikeville throws like paintsville then they may be in trouble. They didn’t cover us very well. Tough task for them. 

119 yards was good against that defense,  and he earned every one of them,  watching the replay, looked as if he went out pretty often.  He healthy? Polier had a better night,  it happens. Hope they both get a chance to earn a free education.

Many years ago if you played a 1A team you got 1A pts. Then, the VHSL forced mixed districts, so the larger schools cried foul because they were forced to take a hit in points. 
The following year, the VHSL allowed the extra points for playing a smaller school ONLY if that school was in your district. THEN, smaller schools that wanted to play up and geographically isolated larger schools complained. The small schools because larger schools didn't want to play them because of losing points. The isolated schools because they had 5 smaller schools for every 1 equal sized school within a reasonable travel distance. 
So, that led to getting level points for playing down for all teams, regardless of being in district. 
Now, there may be incentive to play 1A teams for seeding purposes, but does it really help to get the #1 seed, but then take a loss in the 2nd round because your team wasn't prepared? I guess that's for each coaching staff/school to decide. 
I would much rather play a challenging schedule and take a few losses than feast on cupcakes and get tossed from the playoffs every year. 
Gotta give Travis credit, he doesn't shy away from competition. 

Silly that you get equal points playing down or even close to it.  But that being said,  tough schedule is gonna be better come mid November through December.
