  1. Defending State Class 2 Champion King Williams falls to their rival Class 1 Essex by a score of 26-13.  Game played at Essex.  Essex came in as the number 3 ranked Class 1 team in Virginia, and has had several semi final appearances against Riverheads.

  2. Riverheads has tied the record in Virginia at 52 in a row last week, and they are trying to break the record this week, but they are in deep trouble.

Lord Botetourt 35, Riverheads 21, 11 minutes left in the 4th qtr.  Riverheads has ran 3 plays in the second half as Lord Botetourt is pounding them on the ground with the Div 1 prospect Nicely.  Cook-Cash has not played one down in the 2nd half due to a shoulder injury and he is not in pads.

  3. Touchdown Lord Botetourt. 3 Minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Lord Botetourt 28, Riverheads 21.

Lord Botetourt got the opening kickoff of the 2nd half and had the ball for 9 minutes before scoring.  Riverheads will not touch in the ball in the 2nd half until about 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.  Jakari Nicely, the junior Div 1 prospect athlete for Lord Botetourt has had tons of success running behind that big line for Lord Botetourt.

Cayden Cook-Cash has shoulder pads off and he is in a shoulder sling and will not play the 2nd half.  He played the 1st half and ran all over Lord Botetourt.  Neither team has punted in this game.

Radford put up 63 on Gate City last week, hard to figure them out.

Not to toot our horn, but the Bobcats are looking good this year.  It's been surprising scores from week one and shocking stuff with teams like Gate City, Glenvar who crushed Abingdon in a scrimmage, then Abingdon playing C Burg close and Glenvar 0-2.  Bluefield 0-3.  But, Radford so far has looked the part on the field from the huge foundation game win at Pulaski and then from week one at George Wythe.  Fingers crossed.

Giles is +9.5 at home against George Wythe according to that website.  That surprises me a bit.  9.5 dog at home is a lot of points to a team in which most probably would agree are fairly close.

Spartans -9?  I'm taking Giles at home.

Agree.  I was surprised a little with Appo's lineplay.  App has great athletes, but last year their lineplay is what did them in with Graham as Graham physically punished them in that state semi game.  This line of Appo in 2022 actually looks small (not average or less than average) but small to me, and Rustburg did what Graham did.  Just pushed them off the ball and tried to limit as many athletic Appo big plays as possible.

This year could be a year for Union.  Graham is the favs and Ridgeview is right up there also, but a team like Union, with all the history and some deep playoff runs, this could be a year where a team like Union wins the whole thing if they get out of the region.  Radford is good and Glenvar even at 0-2 is good and Appo doesn't appear to be that elite level they usually are.  I've seen Glenvar, Appo, Radford, and Union now on NFHS.  Union is better than ALL 3 of them on the line of scrimmage.   I'm not declaring Union State Champions, but I'm just saying they are closer to it than what many might have thought coming into this season.  They actually ARE in the mix.

I agree on the lines.  Raddy's line is very good this year and we're as good as Appomattox on the LOS this year but Union's line is better than ours and Appomattox. Glenvar is 0-2, but we haven't heard the last of them. Martinsville in C looks like they might be getting it together and if they do, that's trouble.  They can match any team in C athletically.  They've always been 1 solid coach away from turning it around and they might be there.

  7. I want the Gmen to go 10-0 and win the region and for Radford to go 10-0 and win C so Radford can't get some payback for the heartaches Graham has caused us over the years. With Galax, Glenvar, Christiansburg left, I don't think we go 10-0, but we got a chance at the region.  Graham over Richlands big in this one.

  8. For Bulldog fans, the Inn at Blackstone is really cool.  Nice resort and Blackstone is a nice place to stay the night before the game without having to go into the I-85 and 95 traffic mess and crime.  Nottoway High is in the Blackstone/Crewe area and they play Halifax County at home Friday night, so it might give them some flashbacks to see a bunch of Green Tazewell Bulldog shirts in their stadium.  Their middle age to older generations will remember all to well.  Serious though, I recommend staying in Blackstone-Crewe area off of 460 the night before instead of going into the Petersburg area the night before.  For any military guys, Fort Pickett is in Blackstone and an old WW2 era Army Base that has since been turned into a National Guard Base and very neat to see.  It still has the old WW2 2 story Army Barracks with the steps in the back and the wood-coal fired stoves for heat.

I had heard that Radford had moved their QB from last year to wideout.  If so that surprises me as he was what made Raddy  dangerous last year.
This game will show us how far GW has come from last years team.

I think Galax plays Glenvar tough but our Defense still has some jelling to do yet and Glenvar wins this one.

QB is a kid named Landen Clark.  A junior and a great athlete who's quick, fast, and accurate.  He'll be more effective at QB than Baylor was last year.  Marcell Baylor, the VT commit and great athlete will be used a lot like Graham's Bradshaw was and put at wide out or slot, and lots of touches with jet sweeps. Clark is also a track star and great basketball player.  He played some at QB last year as a sophomore and did some damage against Appomattox in our loss.  Probably his best game was against Appomattox.

Sophomore Season Highlights (6 Games) - Landen Clark highlights - Hudl
