GW does not in any way have an athletic advantage.....I said before that  this is the best run of athletes Grayson has had in 15 years.  This was prior to some new arrivals via tranfer.  They will be a top tier program in 1A for awhile.  The Super has assembled a strong staff and has poured a ton of money into program.  The Def Coord is the best around IMO.

Accurate assessment.....Grayson has best run of skill kids in a long time but have no run game to speak of.  The rely on big plays in pass game and have been really good in kick return game.  The Superintendent is pouring a ton of resources into this group.

I've been saying it since Grayson fought to come down to Class 1 claiming they would immediately compete for state championships, until they get stronger up-front, they are just going to be an average team. It's nice to have weapons on the outside but when your QB is being hit as he receives the snap, it doesn't do you any good.
Grayson's QB was 14-40 for 171 yards and 3 interceptions. Grayson finished with 73 yards rushing with 48 of those yards coming on one play with under 2 minutes remaining in the game when Galax had 7 players in deep coverage. The Gillespie kid was a non-factor. He had zero rushes, caught 1 pass for 10 yards, and had 26 punt return yards. Grayson was 3-18 on 3rd and 4th down conversions for the game. That's a clear indication, you're getting manhandled up-front.
RJ Vaught and AJ Ashworth are worth the price of admission!!!

I might be wrong again like I said I thought Radford would beat Glenvar by 14.  I think Galax wins by at least a TD.  This game is not only a rivalry but plays big into playoff seating.  Because of that I see Galax being used to this situation and Grayson playing tight for a while allowing Galax to get a jump start early.  I also think last week we saw where the weaker schedule came into play for Grayson; hitting big plays all year with little QB pressure and then boom a defense who got after the QB leading to some misthrows.  I know GW beat Galax, but I think GW laid the blue print for Galax on how to beat Grayson.  Galax takes that film and adjusts to have even a better game plan.  Like I said Friday night I might be completely wrong.  Just my 2 cents

Very very impressed with Galax…..as for Glenvar they are massive…. a little too much emphasis on pass game in my opinion.  I still think of Glenvar as a Pistol power run team.   I know they throw ball very well but not sure that is  their identity.   Also feel Glenvar staff a little out coached on this particular night. Surprised at how young Galax is.  Obviously several outstanding Seniors but a nice mix of younger kids too.   Both teams will of course do well.

Hey now, there's only one GW Loyal here 😂
Seriously, I'm not upset with anything I saw tonight. We have some things to clean up, but I didn't expect to see the best version of this team in Week 1. We lost some 1v1 matchups, but Radford has kids that will win a lot of 1v1's. Defensively, we were in position pretty much all night to make plays, but didn't quite get it done. Credit to that goes to Radford. We didn't attack the perimeter as much as I would like, sure, but that's not a terrible thing against the Bobcats, who year in and out can match (and a lot of years, overmatch) our speed on the edge.
All in all, both teams had drives start inside the others 30. Radford cashed....We got shut out on 4th and goal. Late TD aside, that was pretty much the swing.
Very, very proud of the 99 yard TD drive we had in the 4th to cut it to 7 and the following 3 and out to give us a chance to tie or take the lead with all 3 timeouts left. It didn't work out, obviously, but the work it took to create that kind of opportunity against a team like the Bobcats is never a loss....it's a lesson. We'll be better if we find ourselves in that position again.
In regards to the coaches, I never felt like they lost us a game last year, and I certainly don't feel like they did tonight. I don't always agree with things, but who does? I was in the stands in the 80's and I'll be in the stands until I just physically can't. A lot of those fans you are referring to will pop up for 2-4 years, only to never been seen again. I don't have to explain why lol! But I completely understand what you mean by that statement. I'm kinda wondering the same, my friend lol

There's two schools of thought on this, and neither are wrong.
    First, there's yours....And I get it.
Second....Why put yourself in a high-risk turnover situation? We virtually never go under center. I've seen many GW teams even line up in victory formation to take knees out of the pistol or gun. And what's the difference in doing that or going under center just to turn around and hand it to a running back who is lined up 7 yards deep? I mean, we aren't going to sneak it from the 3

Here is a fourth screw up, 1st and goal from the 3 and we cant punch it in. No under center play, snapping ball 7 yd deep to get 3 yds. does that make sense. ill hang up and listen. well im about off my soap box. lol good night. on to next week lol

Heck of a stretch that may never be duplicated. I miss the old Galax power running game. It's still there but not like it was before they spread everything out.

No one anticipated the 2019 team to be as good as they were…… Denver Brown and the Johnson kid at receiver were their  2 best weapons by far and there transfer in was HUGE.

DefEnd/Lineman did not have same impact as a Rb the stature of D Peoples. And the 2019 team was in my opinion there 2nd best in Dixon era.

In relation to Galax 2017 they had an excellent team…. If Peoples had not got hurt in 1st Round PO they would have definitely be in state game verse RH once again.  The Glenvar team they lost to only lost twice …. to a strong Giles team and Appomattox in Regional Final.

So, you're suggesting Caleb Spurlin had no impact on Galax winning the state championship in 2015 because he wasn't a running back? If what you're suggesting is true, why didn't Steven Peoples win a state title? How about Joseph Dixon?

I agree the 2019 team was the second best behind 2011. Key word being "team" which Galax was much less of in 2016 or 2017. Even if the season I speak of was 2016, the 2017 team lacked depth at every position. Which means the 2016 team was littered with knuckleheads and disciplinary issues all season. Some very severe.
My original comment didn't suggest Galax wasn't talented in 2017. But I stand behind the assertion that that team was one of the least talented since Dixon took over the program. Top heavy considering Dougie was an outstanding player. But they lacked depth all over the field.

Regardless of outcome of first 5 games Galax will make a deep run.   Their defense led by the Vaught kid will be tremendous.  They are well coached and the school and community have bought into the process established for a decade now.

S Allen did a very good job at Tazewell  ....he had them on way up. He just go squeezed out by local politics. He  also was an excellent ass't at Carroll for years.

I think it was a good move on Tazewell's part.  Allen has ties to the Carroll and Galax areas.  So it worked out best for both Tazewell and Allen.  It seems to me that Tazewell is on the up right now and kids are having fun and wanting to play.   Plus Tazewell  has a great group of assistants right now and that makes all the difference in the world.
