  1. I think Richard Colley was known as "Fighting Dick Colley"......Sounds like a mascot to me......"The Richard Colley High Fighting Dicks" ......What could go wrong LOL
  2. I have been told that Clintwood will remain in a 4 team LPD for at least the next 2 years and re-evaluade there position then.......As I understand it Norton has put out feelers reguarding joining the Cumberland and IF they leave then at that point i cant see the other members staying together What I could see happenin is a Region wide redisticting in 2013....For an early jump lets say District 1 GC, Lee, WC1, WC2, WC3 District 2 VHS, JSB, Lebanon, Tazwell, Richlands (Providing that Richlands is small enough by then AND both they and Tazwell want to drop) District 3 TW, RC, TS, CW, JIB District 4 Grundy, Hurley, TV, Honaker, DC (Assumeing that DC consoladation happens by then which it will probably not be the case) It would SUCK to be Hurley or TV in this situation but there location limits them
  3. Honaker? The 1st round will be Nasty blowouts but round 2 and 3 sould have some VERY interesting matchups (Think GW vs Burton and Clintwood vs Radford in games just to deside who makes it to the simi finals) The same can be said of Div 2 with Gretna and Riverhead in the same Bracket with Gate City and the consoladated Wise schools (BTW tough break for Grundy being 6 students over the cutoff)
  4. Week 2 has been the Haysi/Clintwood week for as long as I can remeber......I do not see Clintwood letting them out of that contract given the nightmare getting teams to play them has been this season
  5. Div 1 LPD - Burton(alittle stronger than last season) and Clintwood(alittle weaker than last season) will again Probably be the 2 best Div 1 teams in the region not that the reagion matters that much anymore with the new playoff format CMD - N/A CD - I hear RC has a good team comming up and Castlewool MAY be on an uptick expecaly if they pick up alot of ST Pauls Players BDD - I think Haysi will again be the top Div 1 team in that district(I thought Hurley was going to be hit hard with graduation this season) Div 2 LPD - ??? with the School consoladation I cant say.....at one time the Appy/PV combo would be scary (not so much anymore but I am sure it will help)......Wise would have been tough this season anyway if the Pound atholets go there and not Clintwood or Burton wise will be tough CMD - GC.....Leb....Everyone else (Under the new format anyone that can rack up 3 wins in a season will probably make the playoffs so it would not suprise me if the whole district is in the playoffs this season) CD - Coeburn should be the best team in the district BD - Can Grundy knock off Honaker?.....I do not think so but both will be playoff teams
  6. IDK there has to be a cutoff point somewhere (I think Appy had a situation similar to this back in the 90's does anyone remember that?)
  7. Playing at home (This years seniors are 24-1 on that field) with the rain/snow getting ready to set in for the end of the week it sure sounds like conditions will favor a running team
  8. Well EM needs to get past Galax and Clintwood needs to get by Burton this week before we can even START to really talk about this game That being said both CW and EM have played 6 Playoff teams each this season the Avg scores in those games were (EM 38-18) (CW 40-7) Both Teams have Offences that can light it up With EM only scoring under 30 once this season and CW's lowest scoring game (31) coming in the 1st matchup with Burton (a team that has has 4 or 5 Shutouts this season) the difference seems to be that CW has one of the better D's around this season where EM seems to be more of a bend but don't break system IF this game happens I am sure the story will be the EM O (almost 3K yards Passing) vs the CW D (at least 1 pick in all 11 games so far this season) but the game may be decided by the bend/don't break D of EM vs the Power running/Huge Line of CW........Weather could also be a factor given that in Nov/Dec The CW field turns into a windtunal at times which WILL NOT favor a passing team If Burton is the team that EM faces it will be Pass vs Pass but would PROBABLY be played at UVA-Wise in turf wich Burton is used to playing on but would be a new experance for EM (or galax)
  9. Unless they win the district in which case they are auto in I have a tough time going against Haysi on there hurley match up.......I am not sure that Hurley REALLY believes that they can beat Haysi (mental block) with the game being in sandlick I think it makes it that much tougher for the Rebs
  10. I thought GC was up 3-0 at the half in game 1
  11. Pound is not very good Hurley should have this one in the bag early.
  12. Great points I was also thinking in terms of reagion C and region D and since that will no longer be an issue it really opens up things (VHS and Battle could goto the Hogo since that is where they wanted to be in the 1st place) I THINK that districts will remain in place if for no other reason than tournaments that are a money maker for the schools I had forgot about TW wanting to join the LPD.....The LPD is currently a 6 team league I would not want to see it drop below 5 schools so IF consoladation kills Pound and Appy they really need to pickup at least 1 more and preferably 2 to 3 more teams Lee, TW, GC, Coeburn, St Paul or Castlewood would all be good choises
  13. IDK if the alternative is making trips to Grundy and Hurly several times a year they may deside that the short travel time to Wise east, Wise West and DC would be prefable
  14. Been a few years ago but yep
  15. You could go with the "Coon Dogs" LOL I kid :) I figure Dickenson Co will end up the Ralfe Stanley memorial duleing bangos or something LOL
  16. My understanding is that the COE approved there revised plans and that breaking ground could happen as soon as this spring The Wise Co consoladation COULD happen as soon as next year I I had to come up with a re districing that would acompany this it would be as follows New LPD - DC, Wise/Pound, PV/Appy, Lee, GC, Norton CD - TW, Coeburn, RC, TS, St Paul, CW New CMD - VHS, JB, Leb, Honaker, Grundy, TV, Hurley (TW could get moved to the LPD for travel reasons and TV and Hurley could then slid into the CD) (A 4th District could be added if Tazwell and Richlands were to drop) I
  17. In the LPD I think Burton and Clintwood are a step ahead of PV and Kelly (Hard to tell how good Kelly is till they play someone with a win) I had heard that PV may have the best line at the school since the mid 90's which is nothing but great for the vikes so long as there other position players jell Burton has a GREAT D and I for one have been surprised at how well there O is still putting up points after losing Mr everything (Miles) to graduation Clintwood will be tough to judge until they get all there players back in the lineup The BDD is interesting with Hurly looking very good early but it is a long season and Hurley, Honaker and Haysi all play each other near the end of the season The CD is wide open for St Paul, Castlewood or Coeburn (And TW is not out of it yet) CMD is GCs to lose with VHS being the only school I can see with a shot at knocking them off
  18. I am not sure if Hurley thinks that they can beat Haysi.....Sometimes even IF you have a better team it is hard to get over that Hump while on the other side I don;t know how many from Haysi can even rember the last time that they lost a game to Hurley. Honaker to me looked solid and will be tough for both Hurley and Haysi
  19. Yep I would say Burton and Possably Pound as well As far as Wresling I know Castlewood, Coeburn, Wise , Appy, and PV have a team that being said Grundy would not have much if any competition in the Region
  20. I am preatty sure Clintwood would play Grundy in the regular season
  21. Cwood DID put there starters back in the game on Honakers last drive and got burned on a half back pass (From the stands I saw the safety come up and was hoping for an overthrown pass LOL) I THINK John is fine and had this been a real game he would have went back in the game as it was it was a good thing to get some other guys work......Vanover is OK from what I can gather and worst case should be back for Haysi....Dottson IDK I have heard Haysi but I think it would be day to day at best by then As for Honaker they looked better than I expected Big line and hard running backs they are going to be tough to beat in the BDD and will give Lebanon all they want next week
  22. LOL if it stopped raining now they would have the sprinklers going from now till game time :)
  23. Vanover made the move from Guard to TE as far as I can rember he only had one ball thrown at him......The O-Line is bigger than usual (6-2 320, 6-1 340, 5-11 240, 6-1 220, 6-5 300) but as you may expect with that size the pulling linemen does not look that great yet but as far as strait up base blocking they did pretty well but will probably have issues vs quicker teams........The RBs were solid I THINK Powers was a bit stronger running and Meade looked a step quicker and Dottson (the kid with the injury) scored 2 of the 3 times he touched the ball How did Haysi look? (I heard that they may be a better passing team this season than they were with Fleming I find that hard to believe but Collie seems to have a knack for developing QBs)
  24. Kelly is 8-2 with losses to PV (in the mudhole game LOL) and Clintwood Kelly has a VERY good line and a tough D, On offence they are WingT for the most part and tend to spread the ball around. There QB is solid and throws a nice ball but there recevers are a bit inconsistant. Overall They have one of the better Ds in the area however there Offence has been less than impressave vs tougher teams and there Head Choaches love for going for it on 4th down tends to put the team in tough situations at times IMHO if the Lebanon team that beat the crud out of VHS shows up Lebanon will win by 2 TDs (But will know that they were in a game) If the Leb team that has mailed in the last 2 weeks shows up Kelly will be playing for the Region D championship the following week
  25. I think Appy made it in at 2-8 one season (Late 90's I think) and beat a 10-0 RC in the 1st round pretty handely
