As a VHS fan, I apologize to the Tazewell players, coaches, parents, and fans for this annoying inconvenience. It really bothers me that we continue to do this to visiting teams. This happened to Tazewell another time two years ago. And it seems that I recall it happening to Graham a few years ago as well. This could possibly have been avoided through proper coordination between VHS's AD and the Bristol Pirates. However, it is ultimately the Bristol Pirates that determine their own schedule. In addition, no member of the Bristol City Government or School Board is going to risk antagonizing a paying tenant by pressing the issue too much. I do not think that the 1-hour delay is motivated by a desire to increase attendance by allowing spectators from the Pirate's game time to walk over to Gene Malcolm. But rather it is due to the fact that visiting football teams use the same locker room as the visiting baseball teams. Visiting football teams also tend to use the baseball field for some drills and pre-warm-up activities. Also 50kw is correct that foul balls do often land in the north end of the football field. As for why the game was not moved to Saturday, I assume that the Tazewell AD preferred that his football team lose an hour of recovery time to the following week's opponent (Graham?) than to lose almost an entire day. Once again I am very sorry about this delay. And I wish both teams a safe and competitive game.

They've got to do something about these playoff seedings. If (and it's a huge if) we beat Lee, we can make the playoffs (with a tad of help), with a 3-7 record. Teams that finish 3-7 don't need to be making the playoffs. It's great for the kids to get another game and experience, but from a quality of football standpoint, they need to make sure the teams that make it deserve it.

I know we were good last year.  That is one reason why this year has been so very frustrating.  Just not the same attitude/effort/something.  I do not know!?!
 
First thing in the morning, I am going over to a little hollow not far from here, near Sugar Grove, and climb into a tree stand.  Maybe I can leave Smyth County with something other than this foreboding feeling!. 

I have a hard time putting it on the staff, especially after the tremendous job they did last season, but sure, there is enough blame to go around, so I think everyone could have been better. Perhaps they could have been motivated better, but it's hard seeing us have over 70 kids at the beginning of the year, buy into all the optimism, and see them just fall flat on their faces, game in and game out.

Razor, ISIS IS SERIOUS, EBOLA IS SERIOUS, I know some of you dumb-ass UMWA Democrat, Obama followers do not get it but, high school football is a game. If you want a serious discussion about the future of all these young men. I will give you my number. I like moonshine but I am far from being a joke.

They just don't like to pick blowouts. The year Richlands beat Tazewell 61-0, they picked us to win by 10 when it was obvious what would happen.

Well I will say this, Steve Wright is a class act and a great man. Odds are we beat them handily tonight, but given a bit more time, Steve will have this team playing better. I'm sympathetic to the kids, they don't deserve this, and I hope the situation improves for them as the season goes along.

Lee was a bad hire from the get go.  Anyone who knows SWVA football knew that.  There is no excuse for quitting on a group of kids that have put their trust in you  I hate it for the kids b/c they had bought into him but they'll have better leadership the rest of the way.   Those kids have been running the wing T for the last 3 years.  I don't think it'll take to long to put a small version of it back in.    Wright has still been teaching the strength and conditioning program at Battle.  I've heard the off season program wasn't remotely as challenging as the past few years but I'm sure Wright has at least made up for some of it in class.         This team was in a rebuilding mode reguardless but I guarantee that Wright will have them competing their butts off for 4 quarters reguardless of the scoreboard.       Hate this for the kids but they're in better hands now.       I just hope that the administration makes a better hire the next time around.

I've driven from Kingsport, TN to Norfolk, Richmond, Harrisonburg, and several trips to Lynchburg supporting Gate City over the years. I have no sympathy for them.

Heh! Before both divisions in Classes A, AA, and AAA each started playing their games at places like Salem or wherever, the games used to be on neutral high school sites. Sometimes, Bullitt Park would host Powell Valley as well as Appalachia and Jonesville and Legion would host GC's. One year, Powell Valley had to go off of mainland VA to play the state championship. They won pretty handily too.
 
If the western schools can travel, so can the eastern schools.

I learned five things from this post.
 
One, you missed the sex ed. class.
Two, you have no real world experience so the sex ed. class would have done you no good anyway.
Three, you are still as clueless as you proved in the Hobby Lobby thread.
Four, you have very thin skin.
Five, your opinion of yourself is too high.

Thanks and congratulations to you guys also. Safe to say we made you earn it and it stinks to lose, but it's hard to be disappointed with this season, having made it to the final 8 of the playoffs.

Congratulation on an amazing season. The tide has turned down there. You guys played with tremendous heart and played all the way to the end. Let me be the first to congratulate you guys on an amazing season.
