  1. I'm calling it now 9th Congressional District goes to Trump with 65% of the vote. He'll get 75 - 80 in the coal counties. BTW Trump probably doesn't carry VA. I'll be curious to see Trump's impact on the WV Governor's race.
  2. Too early to say much. Bama may be awesome, but Ole Miss beats them if they don't shoot themselves in the foot. Louisville is impressive, but FSU is not FSU of the last few years. OSU is scary athletic. By week six we'll know a lot more.
  3. Did the Clark kid from Chilhowie graduate?
  4. I look at rankings like those list of cutest girls/boys back in school. They are highly subjective and depend on where you sit.
  5. The crowd looked to me to be about 7,500. I thought it was a good competitive game, and that Graham's receivers got a case of dropsy in the second half. Landon Lowe did on the football field to Graham the same thing he did on the basketball court in the Conference Championship. I would love to see a rematch.
  6. Come out to the game, eat at one of Bluefield's restaurants (i would suggest The Railyard, Buffalo Trail or Savory Flavors) shop and spend money in Bluefield. Then enjoy the game.
  7. i have a different seat, so my perspective is different. I have found that boys can be less mature at a given age than girls. An extra year does not hurt them. It is usually better if it happens at the elementary level. (Texas has a trend of "Red Shirting," where parents hold boys out of Kindergarten for maturity.) Holding back a kid for academics is usually a losing proposition. I am not a fan of holding back for sports, but it is something that goes one
  8. Heard a rumor of someone from Beaver being suspended. If true it will be a big loss. (Since it is just a rumor, I won't say who.)
  9. I had heard that Ashiq was an exchange student, but could have heard wrong. I knew about the Japanese girl. Did she qualify for state?
  10. Random question, how much of the Richland Girl's success comes from the exchange student? I hear she is very good.
  11. Here are the reasons that I have mixed feelings: When it comes to athletes, University police, and local PDs have reputations in some communities for looking the other way or less than thorough investigations. (Deserved or not. Read the NYT article about the Tallahassee PD.) So the legal system is cut off in some places. Also when the accusation becomes public, the victim is the one put through the meat grinder of scrutiny and blame. On the other hand the Title IX procedures are being run by folks who are not trained police investigators, and have a Star Chamber secretiveness to them. Neither situation seems suited for finding out what actually happened and providing justice. I will have to add "The Hunting Ground."
  12. If you wonder why you read about athletes who have been dismissed from the University and no reason is specified, there is a good chance it has something to do with the resolution of a sexual assault complaint through the school. When things are not handled well, it leads to this: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/reports--baylor-fires-coach-art-briles-154936095.html I would highly recommend the book "Missoula." It covers this issue in great depth, and left me with mixed feelings about how these issues are addressed, both by local police and the schools.
  13. I think from a Tweet I saw from Babcock was that there was concern about the amount of creep there had been in logos, designs and fonts. This brings things back to a single unified look. He did not that they had licensed the old style VT, and mentioned that the original colors were black and gray. He could be hinting at a throwback look.
  14. Only real complaint is having Miami on a 5 day turn around after going to Syracuse.
  15. 2. Hire the best financial planner around. 3. Tell my wife to file her retirement papers. 3. Set up trust funds for the nieces and nephews to pay for their educations. 4. Create a charitable trust to endow community projects (ala Shott Foundation) 5. Go collect the winnings. 6. Have my mother's house completely renovated. 7. Go off the grid.
  16. Yeah, some folks game improves dramatically when $$$ are involved. Others can't deal with the pressure a few $$$ add.
  17. Pretty much covers most of our existences, doesn't it?
  18. I took bowling for my college P.E. credit. Made a D. My inconsistency killed me. Our final average determined our grades. I rolled a 160 and a 60 for my final two games. Observer: Boneless wings are NOT wings.
  19. I have hit some 100 yd shots on putt putt courses. It really is a challenge to hit wedge like shots with a putter.
  20. Heard Mike Compton's name mentioned.
  21. He wins. How he recruits in the East will be the big question. The one thing for sure is the Honor Code at UVA is a whole lot less stringent than the one at BYU,
  22. Oddly enough, I played some of my best rounds on tough tracks. Put me on a course equal to my skills, and I will blow up and shoot horrid scores. I have enjoyed playing Red Wing in VA Beach. It can be a real challenge when the SEALS are doing live fire exercises next door at Camp Pendleton. Nothing like automatic weapons fire to mess up your shots.
  23. It is not really a matter of which regime is in power, more the small "p" politics of communities of interest. As long as the folks in the lower (western) end want a separate TW, it will stay that way. BTW, in my experience in SWVA, saying something could happen in 5-10 years usually means it probably will never happen.
  24. As Gman knows, mine relates to my skill at golf, not my computer skills.
