If that is the rule, it’s worded badly. When kicking from the hash, you can’t evenly distribute players across the field and have 5 on each side of the kicker at the same time. Teams will end up putting 5 to the short side and kicking it in that direction...you won’t get the big bounce, but it will increase the odds of recovering the kick.

I don’t get folks whining about this train horn. Anyone who has ever been on the field at Bullitt Park would know that you can hear the crowd and horns etc. but it’s nowhere near as loud down there as you would think it would be. Blaming the noise for mental mistakes is just a cop out. Back in my time, they used to blast an air raid siren when the bus arrived. It was deafening if you were in the stands, but not so much on the field. If you are jumping offsides or false starting because of any kind of crowd noise, that’s a lack of discipline, plain and simple. Another thing, on that field, noise from the visitor side is much more audible than from the home side because the stands are in a much close proximity to the field. During the Richlands game, the guy with the train horn was about 3 rows directly behind me and, yes it was loud, but it wasn’t that loud. If you were sitting across the field and claim it was deafening, you must have the ear sensitivity of a bat. This whole controversy is just so overblown... to me it just sounds like a case of sour grapes.

You should have seen the TS game at Unaka. TS had 230 yards of offense and 260 yards in penalties and won on the final play 19-18. TS had lost both of their QBs by the 3rd quarter as well (one ejected for cussing a guy who grabbed him by the crotch and the other was slung under a fence...not making that up, either) and were snapping the ball to a RB and he was just going left, right, or up the middle. The kid had never taken a snap from center so trying to hurry up and get a snap off from the 1 before time ran out, the center snapped it between the QBs legs and another RB picks it up and runs in for the score. The xpt looked like a helicopter...it was insane. The shenanigans after the game was worse than during the game, too. I’ll never forget that mess as long as I live.

2003 PV-Sullivan Notth and 2003 TS-Unaka both had the same Tennessee crew with both Virginia teams ending up around 250 penalty yards. That was in back to back weeks.

So, anyone seen any stats from the Union-Letcher game? Just curious about the penalty yardage for both teams.

According to the radio guys, no explanation for the ejections. They were a couple plays apart and I reckon the teams were jawing back and forth. The way it sounds, Union may end up with 200 yards in penalties.

For PV, the most remembered offensive play is probably their last offensive play from scrimmage in the 1989 finals vs. Lunenburg. On defense, either the final 2 point conversion play in 1985 vs Lunenburg or the final play vs Appy in 1997. On special teams, probably the blocked field goal on the last play vs Madison in 1982 which produced PV’s first state title.

IMO, Chilhowie earned the right to play the game wherever they choose. It's football, if they want to play in the mud then the game should be played in the mud.

They had 2 worse point margins in back to back home losses in 2012.

Not even making that comparison...just saying the nostalgia over Saunders is overblown. Take into account that during his tenure at Kelly he was 5-14 vs district teams with winning records. (Wins were PV 99, Pound 00, Appy 01, Coeburn 01, Clintwood 02...that's it).

Never said it was bad, just said he didn't exactly burn it up...the results show that to be true. Besides the PV win in 1999, he didn't beat hardly anyone he shouldn't have beaten on paper. In his 3 playoff games at Kelly, he was 0-3 and the cumulative score was 97-13 with 2 shutouts...that comes out to an average of roughly 32-4.

He didn’t exactly burn it up at Kelly...he won roughly 3/5 of his games and was 0-3 in the playoffs. Really, the biggest thing he accomplished was beating Powell Valley in 1999...and that’s about it.

This one will be decided on the LOS. If Union can control the ball and clock on offense, and pressure the QB and stop the run on defense they win. If they can't Graham wins...it's that simple.

Exactly...the talent has to be there regardless of who is coaching it and vice versa.

Their preseason benefit game wasn't exactly a blowout during the half with the starters playing. Twin Springs started the year with a bunch of young kids who have had to grow up on the field during the season. I'd say due to that they have probably improved more as a team than Cove has overall. That being said, I also think that Cove has the edge in experience and has more good players at this point than Twin Springs has...but it's a rivalry, so who really knows what impact any of those factors will have on the game. According to four seasons, his record as HC at PV was 44-16-3 over 6 seasons (28-11-3 in the LPD)...3 playoff wins, all in 1982 and all on the road. He was 4-1-1 vs. Appalachia. He coached PV to their first LPD Title, their first Region D Title, and their first State Title...all coming in 1982. Best season was in 1982 as well with a 12-0-1 record. That comes out to a .698 overall win percentage over 6 seasons. (.666 district win percentage)
