Congrats to Appomattox. Game came down to special teams, and that was the main difference. A couple of calls/non-calls made a difference in 14 points as well...both on Bears punts. The players who made the biggest impact on the game, IMO, were the nose tackles for Appo. In the first half, Union couldn’t run their offense due to penetration from that position...got fixed after halftime but, that was a quarter and a half too late. It is what it is...pretty good game, though.

Appo was very good. But the got two huge calls go their way and that was the difference. The obvious hold on Mitchelll on PR TD and the horseshit false start that gave Appo the TD before the half. Congrats Appo.

As long as they don’t blow it during the snap count, it shouldn’t matter.

I hope we stay out of the T unless absolutely necessary. I feel like Unions better off with Mitchell touching the ball every snap and using the motions to slow down the defense.

I don’t care who the coach is, Rye Cove started the year with 19 bodies and were outmanned in most every game they played. The best anyone could realistically hope for would be winning a max of 4 games, regardless who was on the sidelines. If they won 6, it would be time to get out of the way and let ‘em tear down the goal posts.

I feel same way. If the big KO return TD doesn't happen, maybe it's a different game but you could almost feel the wind go out for the Canes once Owens broke it loose and scored.

The 2 big special teams plays put Marion out of it early. The bad punt snap put Union up 14-0, and after the big TD run for Marion, the ensuing KO return TD broke their back.

Everyone bitches and complains about officiating from time to time, but attempting to provoke, insult, or fight an official is just plain wrong. Part of the reason folks who would make good refs refuse to even entertain the thought is because of the criticism and crap that officials have to put up with. Honestly, we should be thankful for the officials we have, because there are some good ones...and without them there would be no game. It’s not like the refs go out there and try to blow calls. I’m sure they try to do their best. Also, it’s not like folks are lining up to be officials, either...and who can blame anyone for not wanting to be a ref? Thing is, there is a ton of pressure on these guys to get it right, but they aren’t exactly pros...they get paid a paltry stipend to do a thankless job.

In many counties, a kid can choose their school to begin their eligibility beginning in 9th grade, but once they begin at one school, transfer rules apply if they choose to go to another county school...same as any other place they might would transfer.

Actually, that’s all there is to it...sometimes less than that. If a transfer gives the address of a relative inside a school’s boundries, they can be declaired eligible in some instances. They just have to claim that as their residence. I’m not going to go into where I’ve seen that happen, but I know for a fact it has. The sport the kid transferred to play wasn’t football, either.

Actually, the feeder programs were already at a high level when Phil arrived...he actually names that as one of the reasons he took the job. But, you’re right...anyone who implies that Phil was only successful because of Coach Jones clearly lives in a dream world. Both were great coaches. Barry was a great motivator, Phil was great with game planning and preparation. Together, they are arguably the greatest tandem to coach on the same staff in SWVA (without argument the most decorated)...but separately, both were still excellent coaches. Contrary to claims in this thread, I never once in my years as a player heard Phil trash any of his players to other players. That claim sounds more to me like hurt feelings and sour grapes on behalf of the guy that posted it. I did however hear him on several occasions call out players who exhibited a lack of leadership or those whose actions provided a bad example for the younger players...as he should have. As far as the comment in the article goes, from a competitive standpont, that is the truth. We always wanted to beat Appy, but more times than not, that wasn’t a game we had any doubts about winning. In the eyes of Appy, PV was their biggest challenge and rival...but that wasn’t always the case in the eyes of the players at PV. It held true more amongst the older fans than it did with the younger folks who hadn’t seen Appy be consistantly competitive with PV over a span of several years. Maybe it’s not gracious to say that to the press, but that doesn’t make it any less true.

I know a few folks that throw 'em down "just in case".  If it is close to game time and there isn't anyone sitting there, I usually just scoot 'em over and sit down.  Got some nasty looks at the MW game, but I really just don't care. haha

Some parent on the team will throw them a BBQ and give them trophies for a title they should have won if not for all the adversity they faced. I think the kids were the victims in this pissing contest between and jock head coach and a "that's not the way we do it here" AD but you can't be at practice and having a protest at the same time. Qualls being who he is and where he is from just told it like it was and pissed off someone's little junior and he became the latest victim of the story that has more legs than a centipede.

Who knows...5 wins should get them into the playoffs over there, I would think.  It's a shame for the kids that the work they put in has been sabotaged this late in the season.  Way I see it, unless it comes out that Sensabaugh did something EXTREMELY wrong, all of the suspensions and firing, etc. could've waited until the season was over.  Sounds more like a stubborn administration with big egos to me.  When dealing with a situation like this, kids should come before a pissing contest.
