  1. I'm just saying that the two are one in the same. If one substance is legal and often encouraged that leads to much harm (alcohol), why shouldn't another substance be legal that does the same thing (marijuana)? I just have never understood why marjiuana is illegal when alcohol use is encouraged and often downplayed in our society. The same can go for cigarettes. Bear in mind, I am not necessarily for the legalization of marijuana. However, I say "necessarily" because I don't see why it couldn't be done if alcohol is legal.
  2. Sorta along the lines of what Observer said, I think if alcohol is legal, so should marijuana. Do I use either? No; never have, never will. Do I accept the use of either by anyone, for any reason? No, I don't. However, I believe if alcohol, which can/does cause immediate harm, long-term problems, and destroy lives, and is completely legal, accepted, and often encouraged to be used, why shouldn't marijuana?
  3. No matter what any doctor says, the Lord can work in great ways. Have faith and trust in the Lord.
  4. What if people from Abingdon didn't waste anymore of everyone's time with these pointless posts? There's a situation.
  5. I honestly can't say I'm just a fan of "the way LSU plays the game of baseball" because I'm a huge fan of everything there. Growing up in Florida, you make a choice: Miami, FSU, Florida. Mine was LSU. I've rocked my purple and yellow since I was about 4 or 5 and they've been my favorite in every sport. When Miami played in the Peach Bowl in 06 I cheered for LSU. I sat next to my friend who is the biggest UM fan I know, and rubbed every bit of the 40-6 or whatever shalacking the Tigers put on them.
  6. I grew up in south Florida (West Palm Beach, to be exact) and have been a lifelong LSU and Miami fan. LSU because I watched them play baseball when I was first getting into the game as a tiny tot and because Shaq (my favorite NBA player as a kid) went to school there. Miami because I'm from south Florida. Everyone always says to me, "GetMoney, how the heck are you an LSU fan?" because they always assume I am a bandwagon fan. However, once my explanation is given they are fine with my "fanhood." I think some adjustments should be made to your qualifications.
  7. They can have all the talent in the world coming up but none of that will mater until the coaching situation is solved.
  8. Bluefield couldn't make a shot in the 3rd quarter and Pikeview couldn't miss. Add in some turnovers and you have a 25 point or so 3rd quarter for PV and a 5 point or so 3rd for Bluefield.
  9. ^^^ exactly my thoughts on the situation ^^^
  10. Cheerleading as far as competition cheerleading is definitely a sport. Holding people in the air, throwing them, catching them, running constantly, doing flips and other gymnastic moves take just as much skills and athletic ability as any other game classified as a sport. I know a few girls who compete on state and national cheerleading squads who, based on athletic ability/strength/conditioning, can put a lot of guy athletes I know to shame. If you ever get the chance, watch a cheerleading competition on ESPN that features these national squads. It's pretty insane to see what they can do.
  11. The problem with both players is size in comparison to other aspects. Both individuals are incredibly hard workers and very talented. However, when you look at college football players at the highest level (I believe it's refered to as FBS now) they are even bigger and faster than both Lilly and Patterson. For example: you have guys who are playing Lilly's position who are 40 pounds heavier and running 4.5 forty times (which, the last I knew, is faster than Lilly's fastest recorded time). In the three years I shared at Bluefield with Marcus and Jake, I loved every minute of watching them play ball. I believe they both will fit in very well and have extremely successful careers at Concord (if all goes to plan with injuries, player development, etc.). I've watched enough football and know plenty of players/teams from other areas of the country to know for a fact these two could have fit in with a bigger program. I believe there are a lot of bigger programs out there who may have missed out on not giving these two kids an opportunity.
  12. I'm very glad a team finally stepped up to the plate to play Bluefield. And figures, it's Wayne. A class act program with a classy coach. Kudos to them.
  13. I'm very excited for the coming years at Marshall. With the recruits coming in, the returning talent, and then excellent new addition in Doc Holliday, the future looks bright. The town of Huntington is already ringing with a loud buzz over the new football situation, not to mention how awesome the basketball is looking. Seeing and hearing the crowd at the Tulane game the other night was awesome. Everyone on campus is talking about the basketball season and is very excited for the upcoming football season. As for me, and I'm sure for others, it's a great time to be a Marshall student.
  14. No they gave the scholarships to walk-ons. This is coming from someone who is very close to Jordan. The people they gave scholarships to were originally invited walk-ons
  15. He wasn't buried on the depth chart. Entering the season, Roberts was listed as the third running back. Winning offensive scout team player of the year, having an incredible spring as well as an incredible spring game, and being told by the coaching how well he was doing should have lead to a scholarship. But no, they gave it to incoming freshmen who hadn't even proven themselves. I see exactly where he is coming from.
  16. From someone I know who is very close to Roberts, he has been thinking about transfering for a while..before the '09 season began. Roberts was extremely frustrated with the WVU coaching staff because he didn't receive a scholarship after being named Scout Team POY as a rs freshman while incoming freshmen were given scholarships who didn't previously have one.
  17. From what I've seen they don't look too impressive but they are two big bodies to put out there. They've helped with rebounding and shot blocking but neither has shown me that they are legit threats to score
  18. Bluefield won and yes, they do have those two players
  19. Bluefield reminded me of a hockey team tonight. Going for steals constantly (poke checking in hockey) and running a lot of help defense with whoever had the ball. However, at times I thought Bluefield was too aggressive and left too many people open. Perhaps they thought they could play this way because of the poor opponent in Mount View, however, if they play like this against Pikeview tonight, watch out. You can't leave their shooters open.
  20. Just as I thought, Dwyer would impress everyone behind the effort of Matt Elam and Gerald Christian. Elam: 9 carries, 178, 3tds in first half.
  21. I watched this game and was surprised Mantee could do anything. Plant was all over them in the first half and Manatee looked awful. Great game to watch though. I'm more excited to watch the 4A championship today at 1.
  22. Bluefield in the toughest region of AA. If they can make it through the region then that's an awesome feat itself.
  23. Bluefield lives on success. When I see people from other schools here at Marshall, they have shirts that say "Point Pleasant AA Playoffs 2007!" or "Ravenswood AA Football Playoffs 2009!" You never, ever see Bluefield making these shirts. Why? Because the playoffs are not a successful season for Bluefield. Bluefield Beaver football defines success as winning the state championship; everything else is failure. Sure, you can look back on some good games and great moments from the seasons where a championship wasn't won, but none of that truly matters unless a ring is fitted snuggly on the fingers of these young people. While other schools celebrate a playoff appearance, Bluefield celebrates nothing except for raising the trophy in Wheeling Island Stadium. This is the Beaver standard that breeds success.
  24. From day 1 at BHS, Jake Lilly and Marcus Patterson were starters in maroon and white. As the Beaver/Graham game of 06 came to a close and we all witnessed Jake's ability to fly everywhere around the field and make plays defensively, we knew he something was special. As the Bluefield/Princeton game of 06 went on and Marcus intercepted three passes in his second high school football game, we knew he too would be a special one. These two young men have been nothing short of impact players since they first stepped on the field as Bluefield Beavers. An era has certainly come to an end for these two incredible athletes as Bluefield football players, and what better way to end it than a second state championship in their four years. Congratulations, Jake and Marcus. Take this monsterous successful adventure and extreme feeling with you to college and show others across this country what we in the Bluefield area have witnessed since the last Friday of August 2006. If there were a hall of fame for Beaver players and I had a vote, you'd be on my first ballot, hands down.
