  1. I love the outrage on this from the same Republican Party that supports a man who admitted to sexually assaulting women, cheated on his wives numerous times, paid off a porn star to keep her quiet, solicited other countries to help him win an election, encouraged people to drink disinfectant, and tweets like he's 5 year old. This lady got a haircut but you would think she was guilty of war crimes.

I agree with all of that.  Its odd to see a HS that has a starting 5 bigger than some a lot of mid majors, but that was GC at that time.  You had 3 kids at GC who went to D1 basketball programs in 95-96 if I am not mistaken.  Shoemaker was the best of the 3, but size had a lot to do with each being D1.

Shoemaker went to Wake Forest for basketball. Houseright and Beasley went to VT for football.

Good call on Carter.  I would have a hard time taking someone who started for an ACC school shortly after basically playing G in HS to C in the ACC.  GC had so much size on those teams Shoe played a lot on the perimeter if memory serves me correctly.

They did have a lot of size but they were mostly football players who went out for basketball to stay in shape. Shoemaker played guard for Gate City but he wasn't a threat from the outside which is why I would take him off the starting 5. His size & potential got him the Wake Forest scholarship but Dockery and Hood had a better high school career as far as stats go.

So how would an All Time Scott County team from 1990 to present day do against other all time teams out there?  Maximum 15 players.
If you can make a better team, then it’s a beast.

If you count up the total points and rebounds these guys accumulated over their careers, the titans would be tremendous

If Scott County had a consolidated high school, quite a few of these guys would have played together

A day like that just might not be that far off with the way the enrollments are right now. If that happens, SW Va better hold on for a crazy ride

    G. 6’1. Mac McClung - GC  2000+ puts

    G. 6’3. Stacy Ervin - TS  2000+

    F  6’5.  Zac Ervin - GC   2000+

    F.  6’9. Josh Shoemaker - GC

    F. 6’5. Jeremy Houseright - GC

    Bench

    G 6’2. Bradley Dean - GC   2000+

    G 6’2. Jason Bishop - RC

    G 6’1. Chris Peters - GC

    G 6’5. Mark Dockery - TS

    F 6’7. Andy Arnold - GC

    F 6’4. Tony McDonald - GC

    F 6’5. Chad Beasley - GC

    F 6’5. Justin Seaver - GC

    F 6’4  Austen Arnold - GC

    F 6’7. Tyler Webb - TS

I would take Houseright and Shoemaker out of the starting lineup. Both had good size but there were better basketball players ahead of them. I would add Shannon Carter from Gate City to this list. He was really tough.

I'll take the so called crook that is looking out for the USA than the career politician that is looking out for his son.

Would that happen to be the same guy who admitted that he is trying to dismantle the USPS so people cannot mail in their votes? That's really looking out for the USA.

We need people who know how to manage large organizations, not politicians they are BS ers --- that is what you get with them is BS.

I'll never understand this argument. I can't think of many professions where having 0 experience is considered a good thing. Just because Jeff Bezos is a successful entrepreneur doesn't translate into him being a great President. It helps to build relationships and make connections in Congress before running for the White House. You say "Greed is destroying the country" yet you want billionaires running our government? I'd rather have officials who can somewhat relate to the average U.S. citizen.

As bad as Tech is recruiting right now they should be in every living room in Southwest Virginia begging kids to come. They need bodies and I would rather those bodies be Southwest Virginia kids....but ASU has a beautiful campus in so many different ways!

I agree. VT's AD mentioned that they will be putting more of an investment in recruiting by increasing their staff so that should help. Tech makes a living off of player development. While it would be nice to get more four and five star recruits the Hokies have been successful at getting the hungry 3 stars who have a chip on their shoulder and turning them into good players.

Georgia State was actually a bowl team last year.  People forget that.  ODU finished 4-8 in 2018.  The ODU loss was quantifiably worse.

That's ok. VT still beat UVA in 2018.

Personnel Changes has Thad resigning as Teacher on 6/17/2020 and also resigning as Athletic Director. Adam Davis also resigning as Assistant HS Football

Well this seems like kind of a big deal. Timing is really bad to try and find a new coach when most hires have already been completed.

It’s funny to me that guys sitting behind keyboards in SWVA doing research on 24/7 and VB Mustangs website can offer such informed opinions.

Everyone on here knows everything. Just look at the Covid 19 discussions. You would think every poster on here got their degree in infectious diseases from Harvard and works for the CDC in their spare time.

    About that.....

They lost to them in 2018 by 2 touchdowns. They were a 4-8 team.

They didn’t exactly beat the crap out of them last season when they went 1-11.

But what does a UT fan like me know?

If I were a UT fan I'd probably worry more about my team losing to Georgia State last year than anything that Va Tech does.

Good thing (for VT) that ODU isn’t in the ACC Coastal!

Tech would love to have ODU in the Coastal. It would be an easy win on the schedule and a chance to rest their starters. VT beat them 31-17 last year without Hooker starting at QB.

What do you have against used car salesmen

They tend to lie to sell their product. See James Franklin or Butch Jones.

What happened there? I'm not aware of that situation.

A lot of false statements on this thread about VT. Times have changed. NOVA & Richmond are where a majority of the top recruits are at not the 757. If you talk to people who actually know Justin Fuente they will tell you he is very personable but he's not a used car salesman. He's not going to lie to a recruit just to get them to sign with the Hokies. It's still early in the recruiting period and Tech's class will continue to improve as the summer progresses. A majority of the transfers (which happened a couple of years ago) were Beamer recruits that didn't make the transition to Fuente and that happens at any program when there is a change at the top. Check the preseason predictions and you will see VT and UNC getting the most votes to win the ACC Coastal this year which is far from the doomsday predictions on this thread.
