Phillips needs to A) quit scheduling cupcakes to make his win-loss record look good and B) learn how to lose with class. These quotes were an attempt to put a bullseye on Graham because Richlands just got rolled by 30. Hopefully Graham beats them by a lot more in the rematch.

It will be interesting to see what Radford's pressure defense might do to Gate City if they were to meet up in post season play. Radford is always well coached, usually have the athletes (although they may be down a little this year) and they will have the confidence of winning numerous state championships on their side. I don't believe they will beat Gate City but if Radford can catch the Blue Devils on a night where 1 of the big 2 is struggling it could be a tight game.
-
Absolutely. East would beat Battle or Lee by 15 plus.

Fuente is a Gary Patterson disciple. He knows that staying at Virginia Tech is a much better situation than the pressure that comes along a job like Florida State. Plus, having Bud Foster as your DC is a luxury that Fuente would not have at FSU and Babcock is one of the best AD's in the country.
-
Fuente isn't going anywhere. This is the problem with UT fans. They are completely delusional and living in the past. The strategy of making up stories about Schiano just because his record wasn't great was a terrible look and now coaches only use UT to increase their pay checks. Georgia and Florida are now on an upward trajectory and UT continues to fall behind.

That's o.k. because Va High's tournament for both the boy's and girl's has been terrible the last few years. The teams in it are really bad. -

Gate City then Graham and everyone else can go ahead and get ready for baseball season. I would put Union at 3 and then after that it really drops off but Wise Central should be better than Battle.
-
Playing in the Hogo tends to give you that feeling.
-
I was agreeing with you right up until this statement. Powell Valley and Appalachia could care less about basketball. Those were both football schools who had enough athletes to be competitive in basketball.
-
The Head Ball Coaches at Gate City and Wise Central are presumably on the Hot Seat. Thoughts on who would be good (and realistic) candidates to replace them if they do not return.
-
When was Abingdon ever relevant in post season ball? Losing in the first round of the playoffs should not be the highlight of your program.
-
Bring attention to himself. My question for the administrators is how did Sensabaugh ever get hired in the first place if he had been arrested in 2007 & 2009?
-
This guy has lost his mind. What's scary are the people who are dumb enough to follow him.
-
Nope.
-
Not at a high school. He is a first year coach with a 5-2 record. Not worth the headache and having his players make a decision on whether to play a game without him is not a good look.
-
In boy's basketball and baseball the answer is definitely no. Both of those coaches have had enough time to build a winning program and it hasn't happened. I thought Owens was the answer in football after he was successful early but the past two years have been bad, injuries or no injuries. Wise's best bet is to ask Robin Dotson to coach every sport they offer.
-
Union can name their score. Wise Central is only good at girl's basketball. Football, basketball, and baseball have been terrible since consolidation.
-
Private school administrators are no different than public school administrators when hiring coaches. They don't want people who will rock the boat and make them look bad.
-
I'd go Ridgeview on this one. Battle has got their wins off a really weak schedule of Holston, PH, Wise Central, and Lebanon. Rick Mullins with an extra week to prepare gives the Wolfpack the edge.
-
He will get fired and there's not a school system that will touch him because of the way he went about disparaging the county.
-
If McClung is a legit Division 1 player and he's not able to play defense without getting in foul trouble at the 2A level then he's not good at defense. You guys think Vermillion would tell his best player to take it easy on defense? That would send a bad message to his teammates that defense doesn't matter and after watching Gate City play last year I didn't see much intensity on the defense end of the court.
-
Going by the offers he holds I'd say yes but he definitely needs to improve his defense and doing the little things that help teams win big games. I would add Adam Hood to the list of great ones. Always thought he was one of the best all around players in SWVA.
-
I don't think either Christiansburg or Hidden Valley are that great. Abingdon has 4 competitive games coming up with VHS, Ridgeview, Union and Lee. That should measure how good they are before they lose their first round playoff game.
-
The only foundation Reed laid was uniting the Wise community in disliking him and most of his staff quitting on him. Look at the turnover on his staff at Abingdon this year. I don't give any credit of Wise's success to Reed unless their dislike of him lit a fire under the players and coaches to prove he was the problem. Last year he had 20 plus seniors and lost to a bad Northside team in the first round of the playoffs. This year their schedule is weak. I would love to see him back at Gate City but I doubt they would hire him.
