  1. I can vouch for the crab cakes and shrimp
  2. Hey Razor, just wondering how you remember who has the record........LOL ! Todd was a great player for Richlands and a fantastic athlete !
  3. I went to Aberdeen ele. for the first 3 years of school until they built Hillsdale and then went to Hillsdale for my 4th through 6th grade. My favorite teacher of all time ( with the exception of my wife...lol ) was a guy named Mr McCarty, just a great teacher and person !. What years were you there ? I was there 1968/69 through 71/72. My best friend back then was a guy named David Easter, just in case you might know him. What a small world it is at times. Do you remember the great peanut butter cookies....lol They did have great food there, but mom always made my lunch, but would give me enough money to buy the cookies and get extra milk, She worked at Bata shoe company, and dad worked in Havre de Grace for American Cyanamid. Mom and Dad were from Richlands so after football season my Jr. year ( 75/76 ) we moved back here and I graduated from Richlands in 77.
  4. Yea GMan, I still eat the same sandwich myself, just not quite as often as I did back then, now I go all fancy and fry my bologna once in a while and add an egg when I am really hungry....lol In high school, mom didn't give me $10 for the week, she would just give me anywhere from $1.50 to $2.00 every day because she knew if she gave it to me all at once, I would be starving by Wednesday ! The school I went to in Maryland ( 9th and 10 grade ) had really good food and especially the peanut butter cookies.........man, you got 2 for $.50 and I would at least buy 4 and if I had enough I would go for 6, unless it was hamburger or pizza day, then the extra money went to an extra hamburger or slice of pizza !
  5. I ate a sack lunch all through elementary school, just about every day I had bologna and mustard and when we had extra money and wanted to go wild I would actually add a piece of cheese to it...........man, I was living high on the hog when I got the bologna cheese and mustard ! Oh, and I did always have a little sandwich bag of either potato chips or fritos corn chips..........still love my bologna, but not as much as back then. By the 6th grade I started to get a little burned out on it.

    Greetings

Merry Christmas to everyone !! Hope everyone has a safe holiday. Safe travels to those of you that have to travel!
  7. Guys, a lot of us on here played ball when we were in high school wayyyyyyyyy back when and for some, burn out does happen. I played football in the fall, basketball in the winter and baseball in the spring and our football team was not anywhere near as good as this version of the blues so we didn't have any long playoff runs and I know by the time I was a SR, I was getting a bit burned out. As soon as baseball season was over my 9th through 12th grade years I would then start getting ready for football on top of working part time jobs at KFC my Sr year and Deskins supermarket bagging groceries my Jr year. I know it took everything in me to not quit baseball my SR year, I was tired and dealing with a nagging knee injury and I just wanted to have a little fun and be a normal student for a while and enjoy what little time I had left as a high schooler, but I did end up staying and playing and didn't quit, partly because of my dad, but like I said, I didn't play probably half the football games these kids have. With the playoff runs, I would say they have played almost a full season worth of games more than I did. They will be out of school and have to deal with the real world soon enough so let's let them be kids for a little longer and enjoy their short time in high school ! The Blues basketball team will be just fine.
  8. Sorry to hear about your breakup in your personal life, sometimes we don't understand why things happen the way they do, but they can lead us down a different road that we can't see now, but may be better for us in the long run. Good luck with your new job and move !
  9. Thanks guys, i appreciate the update on that.
  10. Guys, I thought Honaker played Twin Valley today, but the score posted above shows they played Chilhowie. if that is wrong, could somebody give me the update on the Honaker score today. My wife is wanting to know. Thanks guys !
  11. Not many cupcakes in that schedule.
  12. 5 Offensive linemen that transferred in this year is just some of the idiocy that some spew on here as fact when it is not true. But as we have seen everywhere else in our lives nowadays, all you have to do is make a statement on the net and it has to be true. Everyone wants to claim "recruiting"........ok, prove it. Prove that it is not the kids and their families that just want to come play for Richlands or in a couple of the kids case were originally from our area or have families that are from the Richlands area and have moved back here. I transferred here from Maryland back in the mid 70's and it was not because my parents wanted or needed a better job or to play football here, Both my parents had great jobs up there and I played for a good program. My Dad worked as a supervisor for a company called American Cyanamid and made a good living, my parents moved up there after they were married in 1958, but they missed being close to our family and loved this area and decided to move back here. Dad left that job to become a coal miner and mom managed a convenience store here. So people move back here for all kinds of reasons. Not all are for family reasons, granted, some kids and their parents want to play for Richlands, whether you agree with it or not it is their decision and as long as it is done to the rules then there is little to nothing anybody can do about it, that is their decision and their right and right now Richlands is the hot program. There have been other programs in the past that were the hot program. We have had the same coach for over 20 years which means stability, and we have good to great facilities and some of the best fan support around. There will come a time when some other program will be on top and the kids will go there and I guess everyone will then focus their attention on them. I usually try not to get involved in these types of conversations because there is no way to win and your just not going to convince some to change their view and everyone has a right to their view and opinion, but some of this stuff is over the top. Some are just mad because their team is not the one who is getting some of these kids ( they say they wouldn't want transfers........yea right ) others are jealous of the success the blues have had over a long period of time and others have issues with both of the statements I just made. but I am just so sorry that the kids from the team have to see this stuff. I just think it's sad that we seem to have to focus on how to find the bad and try to tear one another down ( I include myself in this statement ) then to look at the good or worry about what can uplift us or our programs. I guess it's easy for me to say since my beloved program is at a high level at the moment. But I am old enough to remember when Richlands was just an average program at best, so I am very thankful to Mance for where he and his staff has brought it to now So I have said my peace, and I know I am going to catch hell for it, but I'm a big boy and I can handle it. I am not a wordsmith so I'm am not very good at expressing myself so I know there are points I could have made better but there it is. Now I have a lot more important things going on in my life right now, like some serious health issues I have to deal with, but I will be back next football season so until then, I wish everyone on here a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !
  13. Very proud of this team ! Had a heck of a season. Hate the way it ended for the Sr's. The underclassmen will get to back to work soon and get ready for another run next year !
  14. Nick Colobro would be a fantastic hire for the dogs, hope it works out for the them, the kids deserve the best they can get !
  15. Ahmad Bradshaw, could just completely take over a game !, Heath Miller, Mike Compton, The Jones brothers from Powell Valley, Austin fuller, Devon johnson, and one that is not mentioned much from Richlands is Jeremy McCommons. Great RB and even better LB ! Caleb Jennings,Justin McCracken, and Brandon Breeding,Shane Wicks, and Travis Payne......he could lay a lick on you also ! There were a couple more from Graham, but please forgive me I can't remember their names. Jake Houseright, and Cary perkins was special with the way he played with the hearing impairment !
  16. in the 70's it was salt tablets........and you better not ask for water during 2 a days........lol, I made that mistake once.......ONCE !
  17. He's come over from preps trying to troll here and nobody is biting. We may talk about each other over here and want to beat the crap out of each other, but in the end, this part of Virginia is just like a family, we may talk about each other, beat the snot out of each other, but like a family, we can do that to each other, but anybody from out of our area best not try it. We all know what central and eastern Virginia all feel about our part of the state ! ( Southwest Virginia )
  18. wow, fantastic find and great read ! Outdoor basketball season........had no idea !
  19. OOOPPPS, sorry, brain fart and gray hair syndrome.......forgot it was about players before 2000.......sorry. The old gray brain isn't what it use to be !
  20. Austin Fuller from Richlands 2006 team was a hell of a player. I remember watching him basically win the game at Powell Valley in the 2nd half just about by himself. Also made the interception that sealed the win for the state game. Wasn't blazing fast, but could get open and had great hands ! Just a great all around athlete!
  21. SOME of our fan base has become very spoiled over the last couple of years. We have become so use to making deep playoff runs and being the favorite over the years that some have no idea how to handle not being considered the favorite, and god help us if we actually lose a game ! I remember the last time we played in the state game most homes all had signs in their yards and stores all had signs and it's all anyone talked about. We still have one of the best fan bases around when it comes to high school football, but you can see a difference this year. I had my cousin and his family come in from Maryland and stayed with us during Thanksgiving and they have become big Richlands fans. He and his 2 high school aged boys went with my wife and I to the Graham game and they were just blown away by the crowd and atmosphere on both sides. His boys play up there and were in the playoffs in Maryland but lost in the first round and said that they didn't have a 1/3rd of the fans at their playoff game, and during the season they were lucky to get 500 people at any regular season games.......both teams combined. They also were just blown away back in 2010 at the amount of fans that traveled to Lynchburg that day and that's when his family became fans. Now they listen to every Richlands game they can on the computer. We ( Richlands ) should feel so blessed to have such a program ! Mance and his staff has brought this program to bigger heights than most really thought it could be and has sustained the success for far longer than most would think is possible. I just want our fans to appreciate this program for what it is and for the work that the players put into it and the coaches. These coaches do not have much of a family life during the season and not much of one out of season and they deserve all the support they can get. For all this success can be gone in a heart beat and we will be wishing for the glory days of when coach Mance was here ! I know that for the most part we still have great fan support, but you can definitely tell a little difference from just a few short years ago. But I will say, that come Saturday, there will be a Blue Tornado sighting in Salem and it will be huge and loud ! Keep the pride Richlands for we have a lot to be proud of ! !
  22. Man, a Richlands fan and a Giles fan having a spat, kinda seems like a family fight.....lol
  23. Hokiebird7 I was not pointing that at anybody in particular and 2nd I was really just making light of it.........hence the lol at the end. But I guess I did a bad job of making light of it. I think none of us from Richlands are under any illusions as to what our team is up against, after all we did get a pretty good look at them last year, and they are probably at the very least as good, but more than likely even better than last year. Add to that the fact that we may be down even more ( really hate to make this statement because some will take it as an excuse which it is NOT ) starters than Howie which could/will make the task even more daunting, but I still believe in my blues and this coaching staff. But if some of the rumors of injuries and sickness are true, then the task becomes even tougher than it already was. But the kids & coaches are working hard and will give their best effort and I believe in them and what they can do ! God, I just hope the things we are hearing about the injuries and sickness are not true. We will just have to wait to see Saturday who is able to play. Until then it is just rumors..........I hope.......lol Either way, no excuses, you play with what you have and next man up, that's all you can do and you leave everything out on the field ! Win or lose after you get to this point you have had an exceptional year and have everything to be proud of and we ( family & fans ) will be and are very proud of the players and the coaches for the year they have had !
