Work has begun at Graham and Tazewell.  From my understanding, they can't put turf down until the temperature remains above 54 degrees for an extended period of time, but the other foundational work has begun.  Don't know much about Graham's field, but hear that Tazewell's field will include new visitors seating, a track (not sure if rubberized or not) -  Not sure if there will be much done to the home side of the stadium, haven't heard.  The Turf field will be alternating dark and light green, bulldog logo in the middle and the field will be trimmed in black.  Markings for soccer and track and field will be included on the field (not 100% sure on that).  I believe that everything at THS should be good to go for next football season.    When all is said and done, I believe it will be very similar to the setup at Christiansburg High School.
Also hearing that Tazewell is planning to upgrade their softball field and install a permanent fence and add more seating and lighting.

As for Graham, it looks like they have torn down the fence between the two fields and the turf looks (to me anyway) like it will be laid down somewhere in the middle of where the two practice fields were (I assume to make room for a future grandstand and visitors stands).  I hear they are also getting a track.

But yes, work has begun and I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out at THS, from what I hear, it will look very nice.
As for Richlands, haven't heard, but I would assume, most of that work will be put off until the weather gets warmer, since not as much has to be done.

If any of y’all think Ronnie Davis wasn’t placed in the HC position by central office because he will do as expected, then let me assure you, he was specifically placed there as a yes man that will as do as expected. Will he be a better HC,  surround himself with better assistants, have better all around control and football knowledge than Tarter? I guess we will see, but do not expect him to rock the boat and play kids based on talent and not who their parents or buddies kids are, sorry, didn’t mean to rain on the parade, just felt like a little dose of truth might be needed.

If this happens then the new HC needs to be in the halls of good old RHS visiting with potential players that wouldn't play for the good old boy system.  I think there is a great deal of talent walking the halls on a daily basis who would play if given the chance to get on the field during actual games.  It's not easy starting over but as the saying goes, "You have to go to the mattress", don't be picky, take anyone who wants to play, give them a chance, you cannot do worse than 0-10.  Play talent, not buddies, not selected for parents sake, not played for connections, but simply played because of talent, desire, good work ethics, and grdeat attitude.

Most kids are not mentally tough anymore and a lot are lazy! Every team has a few of them including the GMen. It most certainly starts at home & is often hard to overcome on the field. Great coaches can help compensate and overcome this mindset.

I believe issues in Richlands can be attributed to new culture of kids coming up in today’s world. We are phasing out the old ways of doing things…discipline, manners, morals, respect and plain out “want to” and grit.  It’s going to take a strong minded individual to raise standards in practice and on the field if they aren’t getting it in the classroom or at home. It’s a two edged sword and very sad.  Talent is there but you have to have someone who isn’t a yes man anymore. Tazewell county is well known for having the “uppity ups” and what have you run things in sports in general.  It ain’t gonna stop until someone stops it. Just my thoughts, as little and as meaningless as they are. Enjoy the board , enjoy reading everyday.

For the players who have worked so hard and came so close many times this year, I hope the Blues win.  To secure the victory it takes an overall effort, the players have given their best and played their hearts out, but they're being hindered by poor play calling in tight situations and no support from the coaching staff IMO.  If you look at the overall, Marion will win, but if you look at the hearts of the players, Richlands will win.  I for one am tired of hearing the coach blame the players for not being motivated!  I have seen determination and motivation with the players all year, but no determination, and no motivation from the coaches, just an "Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles" attitude.  I know some will disagree and that is fine, we all have an opinion and mine is, "IT"S TIME FOR A CHANGE IN COACHES!!!! CLEAN HOUSE!!! CHANGE ALL COACHES!!!

What did I tell u earlier today that I worried about? When a game's regular start time is moved to another day, it's usually just too much mental work for some ADs. Just simply not able to form the thought, then initiate the action needed to make the change.

Anyone having issues with NFHS watching Tazewell/Va High?
    It keeps spooling.
I've switched over to RV and Union no issues there.
Started to watch Holston at PH, but they are in a "fog bowl"

If I'm not mistaking his son got two flags Friday for arguing with the officials and will be suspended for a game.  Lack of discipline runs rampant on this team.  There is no structure from the top down.  Assistant coaches should never be on the field protesting a call, to me that is the HC's responsibility.  People have been wondering why all the flags for personal penalties, well, here's your sign, coaches undesciplined, players will follow.  HC said after game that he was giving the players a day off but would be cooking pancakes, eggs, and ham to entice the players to get into the weight room, (are you serious???) Come on man, you're the coach, demand that your players get in the weight room, and tell them, no weight training, no game play, BE THE COACH, not their buddy.  Yes, I'm venting, been a blues fan for many years, and in my opinion, this is the worst coachhing staff I've ever seen at RHS.  If I'm wrong, I apoligize, but a rose is a rose even if it's called by another name and no matter how much perfume you spray on a pile of poop, it doesn't take away the stink.

Wicks would be a good coach no doubt, but it would have to pass the political powers to be, and McGhee would probably have to sign off on it. So I doubt it would work.

It's so politically screwed up now, I think it would have to be someone from outside of the area with a different prospective than SWD football.  That is something to think about, but IMO will never happen in the politically charged system we have in Tazewell County.  Too many hands in the pot.

And herein lies the problem. It's all political and it has a lot to do with JM.  Sometimes when something is broken, the only way to fix it is to get rid of it and start over.  Not saying that is the answer, but if it works, it may have to happen.  I wish the best for coach Tarter, he is relatively a good guy, but he's gotten himself into a mess trying to please the higher ups IMO.

Folks, I have the pleasure of being around a few athletics programs due to my profession and I see an alarming trend going on locally in the aspect of discipline.
Programs that used to have depth and stability no longer have that and are grasping at straws in regard to talent.
If you hold some of these young men accountable, they will leave the program and never return. Sometimes that will snowball to other players leaving, "Come on man, we don't have to put up with this."
With the lack of numbers, I see coaches afraid to be tough to make players better men because they are scared that their numbers will dwindle or at worst their parents will go and cry to an administrator who will back the parent regardless of the situation just to please.
It's not what it used to be and let's not be too fast to blame the kids because a lot of this starts at home.
    Just my observation...
