If I understand this correctly, VHLS is considering a 4 class system with the lowest class being at or below 375?  But that's only counting grades 9-11?
If approved, VHSL will be handing John Marshall the Class 1 state basketball championship in perpetuity!  Not a chance another Class 1 school can compete with a "feeder program" like that!

    @RichlandsAlum
that was my point, Nothing wrong with naming schools after presidents or whatever but it doesn't carry a lot of meaning. The directional names are terrible.Wise County has Central(terrible generic name) and Eastside(somewhat better). The only thing that may be worse is Patriot or Freedom (which VA now has 2 of). If a school system is going to change a schools name I like the more meaningful names better.
Im ok with them changing the names, but it is a rabbit hole we have to be wary of. If were judging historical figures as Good or Bad based on one bad thing they did then they're all gonna come up short. Were looking at historical figures and their actions as black or white when we all know they're grey. Jackson was someone who was a traitor to his country, a patriot to and defender of his state, and someone who upheld slavery just like millions of others of his time, and held racist views just like the vast majority of the US during his time.
Weve also adopted this viewpoint that the South was evil and the North was pro black equality, and thats simply not true. Judging either sides attitude toward blacks from todays viewpoint theyre both terrible.

It defeats the idea of an equal playing field, especially in the smallest classification. The difference between 1,500 and 2,500 is relatively small, but the difference between 250 and 450 is huge. Not that you all dont know that

Without wandering too far into a political discussion, I also like the idea of honoring local folks who made a direct contribution to the community.  Much better than generic names referencing directional quadrants and/or landscape features IMO.

I’d be willing to bet that you don’t have an MPH in Epidemiology, either.  That makes your opinions on the topic about the same as everyone else’s.  Why leftists get so butthurt when people use objective data to disagree with them, God only knows.

As for recruiting, anyone with a computer and 4th grade math skills can track this stuff. It’s not exactly neuroscience.  Not my fault that objective data pretty clearly shows exactly the point Sixcat was trying to prove.

The names actually mean something to the county and the schools, good change imo.

Good lord the geographical bias. Nice to know we in SWVA aren’t supposed to do research. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Al Gore's interwebs work in SWVA too.  Just because you're sitting behind a keyboard in Virginia Beach doesn't validate your opinions.  And ours aren't invalidated because we are in SWVA.
The point is, you're perfectly entitled to be wrong even though you're in Tidewater!

No, his perspective’s pretty darned timely and accurate.

Let’s use Maury as an example, since you brought them up.  Maury did produce the #3 player in VA, KeAndre Lambert, who is a legitimate stud WR (and a Penn State commit).  Maury also produced the #18 player in VA, Darian Varner, who projects as a DT (but is plenty undersized for that position at 6’1”, 250).  He chose Temple, where he may crack the starting rotation if he can put some muscle on.  The others of that “6 or 7 going D1” group are 2* guys going the FCS route (only 1 of them has committed, and that’s to Coastal Carolina).  Aside from Lambert, that’s not really bolstering your argument much.

Here are the area codes of the top players in Virginia:

    (1) 703
    (2) 804
    (3) 757 [Maury]
    (4) 804
    (5) 804
    (6) 703
    (7) 757 [Portsmouth]
    (8) 757 [Virginia Beach]
    (9) 804
    (10) 703
    (11) 804
    (12) 757 [Virginia Beach]
    (13) 703
    (14) 703
    (15) 703
    (16) 703
    (17) 703
    (18) 757 [Maury]
    (19) 757 [Virginia Beach]
    (20) 804
    (21) 703
    (22) 757 [Portsmouth]
    (23) 804
    (24) 757 [Virginia Beach]
    (25) 804
    (26) 757
    (27) 804
    (28) 540
    (29) 757 [Chesapeake]
    (30) 757 [Virginia Beach]

So, let’s recap.  10 players from the “757” in the Virginia Top 30 for 2020.  Half of them are from Virginia Beach.  NOVA is killing the “757”, the Beach included.  Take out strictly Beach kids, and the “804” is killing them too. And that doesn’t include some really wonky assessments (Darian Varner at #18 is just bizarre).

TL;DR: The old gray mare known as the 757 ain’t what she used to be.

Virginia Beach is a world apart from Norfolk, Hampton and Newport News.  The programs on the peninsula between the York and James Rivers are shrinking and producing less and less talent.  The point is simple, the talent coming from the 757 is coming from a much smaller geographic area than it did two decades ago.  Smaller geographic area equals smaller pools of talent!
I would also challenge you to research the rosters of some of those Pop Warner teams to see how many of those kids are still playing today!

As an ODU graduate, I can give my perspective on life in the 757.  I also spent 8 years with a Norfolk based company before relocating back to this part of the state.
Most people living east of Williamsburg between the James and York Rivers would rather be anywhere else.  Corruption and gambling within the youth football organizations have led to a drop in talent production.  When kids and parents are being shaken down and brutalized so gangs can fix outcomes, participation dwindles.  Those that still participate become corrupted by the environment before having a chance to reach the college level.  The quick cash proves to be too tempting.
Another key contributor is baseball.  The Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach area is producing more high level baseball players than football ever produced.  Which is drawing focus away from football at every level.

BWW is garbage.  There, I said it.  If you like dough balls double the size of golf balls surrounding 1/2 gram of chicken; if you like absurdly inattentive service; if you like coming down with food poisoning in Huntington, WV; if you like paying double the value of the food; then BWW is the place for you.  All the sauces in the world can’t salvage that restaurant from Hell.

It’s REALLY hard to mess up chicken wings, but by goodness, they do it every single time.

I would not envy replacing Dixon either.  I did see today that Big Stone native, and former AOA football official BK Walker is also the new principal at Galax.

The past two seasons, Dixon's offense has been pretty balanced.  As a matter of fact, Galax had two QB's throw for over 1,000 yards in 2018 to go along with a 1,000 yard receiver and a 1,000 yard RB.  After graduation of the senior QB last season, the returning QB threw for 2,000 yards to go along with 30 TD's.  Galax also had a 2,000 yard RB and a 1,500 yard WR last season.
I don't expect to see him revert back to a 95% ground attack.  Especially with more weapons at his disposal.

Agreed on all counts.  Pulaski has the potential to be a force in 4A, and Dixon has a proven track record.  That being said, he left Galax far better than he found it (like any good Hoo).

Good for Brady!  It's been a not so well kept secret in Galax all week.  With Pulaski's athletes and facilities, he can do some incredible things as long as administration supports him.
Edit to add; I wish Dixon well.  He certainly changed the culture for all Galax athletics.  The coaching position will be a far sight more attractive now than it was when he was hired in 2010.

Strictly from a development standpoint, he’s certainly going to a much more impressive and accomplished coaching staff.  Ewing may be accomplished as a player but he’s not a very impressive coach. Just my opinion.
