My daughter is in band at Galax.  School systems, especially those in SWVA, are strapped for cash as it is.  Entities such as band's fight for every possible dollar simply to stay functional.  I hope the school system, police department and community can find whoever is responsible.  Hold them accountable and make examples out of them.

Crue is #50.  He was a FB and LB last season and wore #30.  I took this roster straight off of the Grayson athletics page as is.  I assume they never updated the number and it's been overlooked.

Grayson is big in most spots on the field, including their key offensive weapons at WR in Seth Phillips and Tanner McPherson.  Defensively, they are led by Crue Cassell.  Kid's a load like his dad and uncles were.  I graduated with his uncles and his mom in 1992.

Grayson has steadily improved all season.  If they can replace Phillips and McPherson next season, they will be very good in my opinion.  But this season will end in a close, hard-fought opening round playoff game loss to Ridgeview.

If you were in 3rd grade then, I presume you’re in 10th or 11th grade now.  I’m saying this out of kindness, but going back to an 9-year-old thread and making an effort (and a particularly poor one, might I add) to vindicate your father is the height of unwise.  The truth will stand for itself, whatever that may be.  You have more important things with which to concern yourself than trying to fan flames that died 9 years ago.

Programs that have experienced a complete and total change in culture and the coaches who were instrumental in the process.  Both positive and negative.
Hard to imagine one bigger positive turnaround than Galax.  Dixon took over a program in 2010 that had played in 5 total playoff games in school history.  He took them to a regional final for the first time in school history in year #1, a state championship game in year #2 and a state title in year #5.  He has built the program into perennial favorites in 1A.
I know others exist, i'm just not familiar with them and would love the insight.

I know the Cubs werent the team they were last year.  I just didnt trust the Dodgers or Nats.  Both are choke artists.  As an NL guy, maybe the Dodgers prove me wrong although I still think of the Astros as an NL team too.

It’s funny that you ignore the meat and potatoes of my post, and then devour the after-dinner mint like a starving pit bull.  The main theme of my post was “stop spouting delusional opinions”.

The secondary theme, which I hope sinks in somehow, someway, is that this is a long-established community that has a low-key yet harmonious order.  Acting like some Hollywood stage parent because we aren’t prostrating our lowly selves at the altar of Gate City football like the Canaanites to Baal is not only turning the community against you, but poisoning perception against your team and school.  I bet they wouldn’t be too happy with the sideshow the unsilent minority of Gate City fans are putting on here.

The tertiary theme is that fans of programs like Graham, Bluefield, Richlands, Giles, and Union don’t have the wanker envy over Gate City’s tradition that you fantasize we do.  Graham won a state title back when there was only one and it truly meant something.  Union has almost triple the combined titles you do, Bluefield almost double.  Giles has the same number and has been much more dominant recently.  Richlands has been the gold standard for 15 years now.  Unlike Gate City, those 5 teams have a future that isn’t as bleak as a Johnny Cash wardrobe in the middle of a mile-long abandoned mine shaft at midnight.

    TL;DR: Get over thineself.

I don't know enough about Gate City to be jealous of the program.  My one and only interaction was when my brothers Grayson team traveled to Gate City.  I don't recall the year exactly, either '96 or '97.  We were made to feel welcome and never felt any hostility or arrogance.  My brother suffered a concussion in that game when he caught a slant over the middle and Houseright teed off on him.  It was a great, legal and completely devastating hit.  Gate City had a great team that season.  If i'm not mistaken, they won a state championship.  They could have chosen a score over a struggling Grayson team that finished 3-7 (0-10 after the season was forfeited for an ineligible player).  Gate City's coaching staff called off the dogs and won 33-6.  It could have and should have been much worse.
Snickers had a series of commercials on TV at that time where a football player was knocked silly on the field, the coach asks him who he is and the player replies "I'm Batman".  Following the game, Gate City's head coach, along with several players, came over to my brother, patted him on the backside and said "are you Batman"?  Some may have thought it was an insensitive or unwelcomed comment.  We thought it brought a moment of levity to the situation.  I didn't know the coach at the time.  I assume now, it was Nick Colobro.  Regardless of his reputation, I have always appreciated him taking that moment to check on my brother's health. The handful of players who came over were equally as gracious.  The only two I can name would be Houseright and Shoemaker.  Shoemaker was hard not to recognize given he was the only player on the field taller than my 6'-6" brother.
We are often quick to point out anything negative.  I thought it might interest some to hear something positive about the Gate City program.  Even if it did happen 20 years ago.
