Don't see this game being close after the first quarter. Ridgeview is just to strong at every position. As I was watching the game with Union, I thought, did someone sneak some KY refs into the game.

In my high school days, (decades ago), GC was the top team of the area and beat the stuffings out of RHS every year, but no matter the score, as fans we always supported our team.  To us a victory was being able to score on GC and when we did, the fans in the stands went crazy.  You would think we had won the super bowl, but it was all about supporting our team no matter what the outcome of the game.  We all like to be winners, and we all hate to loose, but we should all support our teams, no matter the outcome.  You GC fans have to realize that it was never easy for all the area teams to receive a beat down from you guys year in and year out, but we endured the loosing to support our team for the players on the field.
If you are truly a GC fan, you need to forget the past and support the players no matter what.  We all like to live in a perfect world where our team wins every game by a great margin, but reality moves into our perfect world and we stop dreaming and start supporting.

You question my picks, but you pick a team 3rd over a basically all senior team at number 4, who won 42-0 last year over them. Sometimes you need to take off your Rebel colored glasses. Hurley's pass defense looks like swiss cheese. If I were an opponent, I would throw the ball on every down.

Like to say also that Martin and Robinson of Radford are fantastic ball players. I just think McClung is better

McClung was phenomenal on offense tonight! He's the reason GC won in combination with Graham unforced turnovers. Martin was the best allnaround player on court even if Graham lost. He is strong on offense & defense. Kudos to GC & good luck in the finals! Hopefully, McClung & crew can beat R.E. Lee this go around and bring title back to SWVA. 

Yep. That’s me. After the game, I also posted that I stood corrected and cogratulated graham on their win. That’s what men do. Admit they were wrong. Got no problem with it. I also said Union would beat everyone by two scores in the region D playoffs in football this past season (Richlands almost spoiled the party. Much respect Blue Tornados!) and I heard about it. Didn’t pack up my tent and leave the forum. So what if graham does win. So what if someone, such as yourself, decides to call me out on it. Even after I admit I spoke incorrectly. Is it gonna change my kids birthday?  Will my paycheck change?  Nope. I’ll congratulate them, again, and cheer them on in the title game. Come one man. We are a bunch of has been a talking about high school sports. Just so happens we have had some special talent concentrated in Southwest Va this year that has brought this place to a fever pitch. That’s great. We need that in an area where some of these kids will come home from practice to find out mom or dad just got laid off. Or they have to move because the mines closed.

It's sad that a fan base would make someone stoop to that:( I saw the pics on Facebook of the RV parents flipping off the Central girls after the jv championship last week and was reminded that there's scum in all fan bases. Having said that,I always pull for the kids in our area. They can't help that their so-called adult peeps are idiots.

The lists I posted are straight from the records compiled by the late AP sportswriter Marshall Johnson.  His records were said to be updated through the 2009-10 school year.  Sadly, I don't know of anyone who has continued his work to update the records.

I have been over and over this topic with my friends and family for years. I have had a number of people from little league and travel coaches, to high school coaches, to even our former Superintendent, approach me on this topic about my son. He will graduate at 17. He will be a 4 year starter in football and baseball, will more than likely receive a number of post-season accolades for 3 of those years, and has recieved serious intrest from a number of colleges from FCS to NAIA in football, and D1a to NAIA in baseball. Even though I made my decision years ago, and I don't regret it, I still question it from time to time.
I questioned the decision a little more, when he was a 14 year old heading in to his first Varsity football season. After about 3 or 4 games, I knew he was going to be fine. I still wonder what it would have been like, had he been just a Sophomore this past fall, while leading VHS to their best season in 2 decades.
The reason we decided not to hold him back was purely for academics. He has a 3.8 GPA and no matter how much I love watching him play ball, there was no way I was going to risk stunting his academic growth, in the slightest. I'm sure he would have benefited from the extra year, physically, but he seems to be doing just fine the way things are now.
With that said, I believe every kid's situation is different. I think every family should make the decision based on what is best overall, for their kid, without any influence from anyone outside of the family.
Just my 2 cents ?
 
 

I really hope Gate City can win 2A Championship, but they better get some offense from someone other than the big 2.

Sorry to inform you but the Hurley Rebels have nothing to do with this topic. Someone is upset because someone didn't get to play enough, and they quit. End of story.

That is 3 pretty good teams they lost to and two of them are 2A.
