  1. If Tazewell has a good showing, "everyone played great!" It they have a bad showing, "we were resting our guys!" If okay showing, "we were working on some things!" Scrimmage outcomes mean slightly more than 7v7's. With what I do, I study posts on this forum to make remarks and laugh...its okay. #WeAreAllCoachSaban 😆

  2. I’m not so sure they win the appeal. That “abnormally large freshman class” we hear so much about doesn’t hold water. Sure, it’s a bit larger than the current sophomore, junior and senior classes. But when you look at the current 8th grade numbers, they are actually larger than the current freshman class. VHSL didn’t assign arbitrary classification cutoffs for this very reason in my opinion. The previous 4-year cycle Class 1 cutoff was 475. That doesn’t exist with the upcoming cycle. My prediction is, Riverheads will lose the appeal and be forced to play the next 4-year cycle at Class 2. Augusta County is currently planning a large scale renovation and build of two new middle schools. One at Riverheads and one at Buffalo Gap. During this 4-year cycle in Class 2, Augusta County will redraw division boundaries in an attempt to ensure RH and BG both end up in Class 1 for the following 4-year cycle. Which is what they did in 2014.

  3. No way to tell in a scrimmage, especially the first one. The second scrimmage (the one before the first game) shows a bit more, but in those first scrimmages, you can't tell from play to play who is in the game regarding starters. The RB and TE and LT may be backups, and the QB, Center and Guards starters. Just no way to know as kids are shuffling in and out. I think the first scrimmages are good at evaluating individual talent such as.....Baylor from Radford is obviously the real deal. It didn't take but a few plays of him playing to see that. Same for the Tazewell QB. Same for Ratcliffe at Giles. Same for Clements at Graham against GC (who by the way, isn't 140 lbs anymore). He's looking 160ish now. Lots of muscle weight added to him. Second or final scrimmage (the one before the first official game of the season) tells more, but even in these, play selection offensively and flow of that selection will not be what it is for the regular season. An exception to that would be Giles. Play selection and theme and flow aren't going to be much different.

Bold statement, but Richlands may struggle with Grundy...

  5. They’ve got a million kids to choose from and a good coaching staff. I’m sure they’ve just reloaded and not taken any steps back

I totally agree with this. I cannot imagine he will ever get a coaching position back anytime soon if ever in Tazewell County. He's not the first coach that's lost a position had he just stepped back quietly, he very well could have a position again. It seems from an outsiders' point of view that he made this more about him than anything else. His ego got bruised when he was axed from football and he let that get him in a world of stink. The more he's stirring, the stinkier it's getting. I'm not saying he's not a stand up guy normally and girls obviously love him as a coach, he just let a situation get the better of him and now as you said, he's burned every bridge in town.

  8. One more thing about Liberty Christian. I know, they have taken a hit on here and not very popular and all of that stuff, but give them credit here. The appealed to play up (and I don't care how self serving or whatever) they appealed to play up/remain in Class 3 instead of dropping to Class 2. Now, notice the difference here... LCA, yep, future is bright. Lots of money, recruits, but has NOT won a VHSL football state title yet. Now, this is bunch that could say, "our numbers are Class 2 and we haven't won any titles yet in Class 3, so yes, we want to play in Class 2 and we are not appealing to play up in Class 3". I agree, it wouldn't be cool for them to do that, but they did Not do it. They appealed to play up. Coward High School- A bunch of state titles in a row and domination, a growing population with folks in NOVA coming down I-81, and a history of doing well against larger classification schools like Draft and Lord Botty. What is the reasonable thing to do? You play against schools your own size. Based on this cowardly move, it wouldn't surprise me if they actually did cheat/fudge their numbers that last couple of cycles. Whatever you want to say about Liberty and class or lack of class, I will show you another who has LESS class and far more Cowardly. I would rather be an AS*hole than a Coward any day of the week.

    Realignment 2023-2027

It would be nice if there were more 3a schools so that Carroll County and Abington could create their own district.
