One could mention Tazewells head coach. They didn’t have a record year by any means, but with the ridiculous youth they had and the injuries they sustained on top of that, I don’t know that any of the aforementioned coaches could’ve done a better job.This is obviously a far fetched reach, but not unreasonable in my opinion.

And I didn't mean that as an insult. Just pointing out that it's different. It's been that way as long as I can remember. Not specifically referring to Appo, but any area east of SWVA in general.
Clarke Co people were amazed because our band traveled 5.5 hours to support our team when their own didn't show up. The support and packed stands that you have seen at Appo the last 2 years is what we have seen for 50 + here, even in down years. A 4-6 Richlands team packed out the 1000 seat visitor stands last week where the temp was in the 20s by game's end. Would Appo's fans do that if they were 4-6 and not expected to win?
There was a game in 1968 between the Appalachia Bulldogs and Gate City Blue Devils that had 10-12,000 spectators (depending on which article you read). I have several family members that attended or played in that game. People had climbed to the roof of the school to watch the game because there was no place left to sit or even stand. People are CRAZY about HS football here.
Gate City, Richlands, and Lee High have all brought their inflatables to Union's field. I remember a few times when Lee brought their horse and train horn.
I understand why Appo doesn't want the train horn. Different culture. But we, here in SWVA, find it amusing. Different culture. Nothing wrong with that. Just different.

Bunker was originally from Richlands. Had gym with him in middle school.

He’s made them from that range multiple times this season. They did say he had a tweaked hamstring, not an excuse just what they’ve said. But with that pressure for a sophomore, a lot of great kickers would miss.

If he's back already then my god he must be an absolute freak of nature. From what I know about Achilles injuries is that it usually takes around 6 weeks before you can even START physical therapy. I hope for his case he is ready to go, but I hope he's not put into a situation to where he takes one shot to the Achilles and has to have another surgery. 

Richlands was down 14-10 to Blacksburg and it was Blues ball at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Does that mean they almost beat Blacksburg?Because if I stated that I’d be laughed off the board.

I don’t think it’s a bad win at all. I just can’t bring myself to be excited about beating a 3-7 team even given their competition. I know Union is a good team. In the bracket challenge I picked them to go all the way, because I think Appomattox will come from region C, but with all the success they’ve had the last 3 years they haven’t had to come to southwest Va and play in the kind of environment they’ll see in Bullit. But I think one weakness of Union is them allowing teams they should put away hang around longer than they should. They should’ve buried Richlands with the difference in yards and such, but had a couple things went a different way, they lose that game at home. Same kind of thing with Abingdon and Lee hanging around so long and also the MW game. I’m afraid they may slip up and lose to someone in these playoffs they shouldn’t.

What do you think that? MW finished their season at 3-7. Just because they’re a bigger school doesn’t mean they’re good.

To be fair, they play a brutal schedule. Greenville is the prohibitive favorite to win in TSSAA 4A, then you Add in Farragut, Science Hill, Dobyns Bennett who is much improved over the last few years. And Bearden is no slouch. 

If it was in Marion I’d go with the Canes. I think it’ll be a game similar to the first matchup but maybe a bit more scoring. I’ll say Va High by a td. But if Marion plays to their potential, it could just as easy go the other way. Both teams have been playing really good ball despite them both losing a couple in the recent weeks.

Just wanted to point out 5A and 6A play in Hampton now. They moved when the 3A 4A games did.

No. They wouldn't have beat them. But I don't think it would have been a 35 point blowout. Howie was the one player Richlands had that could keep up with the speed that Appo had. That makes a difference. But no, Appo still would have won by 14-17. 

You’re right. Taking the best player off a team makes no difference whatsoever.

They were better, but I don’t think head and shoulders. People are quick to forget, Cody Howie wasn’t able to play that game due to the ejection against Stuart’s draft. And anyone who watched Richlands play more than a couple of times know 2 things: Howie was the biggest playmaker on that team offensively and on special teams and he also really opened things up for the other receivers because of the attention he attracted from the defense.

They had momentum, too. Just scored to make it a 1 score game and all you need to do is hold them and head to halftime and we got the ball back. Instead we gave up a KO touchdown and then a turnover for another TD and trailed by 21. The game was lost in that 2 minute span. 

Richlands was demolished, but it was 14-7 with 2 minutes to go in the first half. 

You can’t lobby for it being a close game  then use that example then. Battle LOST to Abingdon. If Abingdon hasn’t proven to be a good team in your eyes then what does that say about battle?

Galax is playing for home field all the way to Salem. Grayson will have to play a perfect game to take that away from them.
