  1. It was an embarrassment to the team, fans and community.  The way he acted after was worse.  His locker should be cleaned out and he should be sent home.  There is no place on the football field for that crap.[/quote

What address in WV are you supposed to send his stuff to?

  2. I like the idea of playing 8 on 8 in LIttle League that sixcat mentioned earlier.  It would definitely get the kids more playing time and exposure to the game.  I know of several teams that have 25-30 kids on one little league team with most leagues requiring a minimum of 4 plays per half for each kid.  That's not very much playing time for many kids therefore they drop out.  When I think back to my days of playing midget league we played several teams in a relatively small area.  That same area can barely field one team in each age group.

  3. Your area little league coaches should be knowledgeable about the game and they should be able to set the ground work to teach them the needed fundamentals of the game. Hopefully this continues until they leave them and join the middle school programs. If the middle school coaches are worth anything, they continue to build on what should have been taught in little league. As a middle school coach if you're not preparing your kids for high school then you are failing them. They should be preparing them mentally as well because lots of kids stop playing as they transition from MS to HS due to not being able to handle the discipline part as a 9th grader.

The middle school aspect of what you're mentioning is what concerns me the most with Graham.  The 8th graders this year will be in for the surprise of their life when they enter the 9th grade next year.  Hopefully our MS program can turn things around next year.

Putting a coaching staff together that kids have confidence in and like to play for IMO is key to a successful program.  If kids don't like a coach today there are so many other options out there for them they simply won't play.

  4. Back to the game, Graham's pass defense was taken advantage of in the first half against Martinsville. After the Richlands game I thought they had improved quite a bit on in that department. Both teams have improved since their regular season meeting. Graham will have to play more disciplined football, limiting turnovers and penalties to come out with the win.

  5. I believe I stated I was not a great fan of local football, in fact I live within walking distance of the "Cliff" and I have not attended not even one game.  So I don't know where observer came up with me being a fan !  Like I said before he should take his meds regularly !  As for the flag being a symbol of racism he should take a course in history, the Confederate battle flag is does not represent racism except in his own mind.  Observer can argue all he wants, after all seems I remember someone saying he was a lawyer and probably not a very good one either.

So you're not a fan of local football, you haven't attended a game this year but you get on a local football forum and run your mouth. To that I say.....Get a life.

  6. Congats to Graham. Heckuva effort from my Dogs. They battled, but just ran out of gas. We've come a long way from 1-9 in 2014. Great job Coach Martin and staff! Now let's go see about a 3-peat on the hardwood!

Martinsville played a great game. Congrats to the players and staff. You have a great group of young men. Be careful on the trip home.

  7. I don't know much about what local teams have coming back but will share the following.  Will Lawrence from Grayson County signed a letter of intent to wrestle at VMI.  I don't know the kid personally but he was always the most respectful young man when I refereed/umpired his games before he dropped other sports to focus on wrestling.

He is 88-10 over the past two seasons with a state runner-up and state championship at 152 pounds.  His respect and manners are what I found most impressive though.

That's good to hear.  It's nice to hear about kids like this doing well and continuing what they love to do at the college level.  When I was in school wrestling wasn't a popular sport at all, I barely remember Graham having a program.  I got my boys involved in it a couple of years ago and they love it.  My favorite part is there is no drama.

  8. To me Allen had two problems that hurt the program.  One was discipline for sure.  Two years ago he had a fairly talented group of kids and he allowed them to run the show.  I believe they ended that season .500 and had the talent to be better than that.  Secondly, I don't think he accepted any input from his assistant coaches at all.  From what I understand Williams was like that at Graham.  When you're an outsider and come into a program that you know absolutely nothing about the kids humbling yourself just a little bit will go a long ways with the staff.  Right now Tazewell is going to put all their eggs in one basket with the upcoming middle school team.  When that team doesn't play in the state championship like the almighty '86 team they'll be looking for another coach.  I would like to see those kids get a taste of success but I don't see the administration, parents, or community having enough patience to allow it to happen.

  9. Just a rumor now. There is a former head coach that is interested. However, he wants to bring 2 of his former assistants with him. This guy is no puppet nor are the 2 assistants. All are tough, no nonsense, and hate to lose.

If he's not a puppet then there is probably no need for him to apply.

  10. How would Coach Turner do at a Tazewell,  he was the Head Coach at Pulaski ( won) , he took over a 0-40 Auburn team, 3 straight winning seasons and playoff wins, took this year off to watch daughters cheer at Pulaski. Heard he was looking for a opportunity according to his brother. Runs a great off season lifting program, old school coach.

Sounds like Coach Turner may be a good guy that possibly knows a thing or two about football.  So I would say he probably wouldn't be a good fit.  They are trying to find someone that can make the parents, kids, town council, teachers, principal, and the local dog catcher happy on a yearly basis and win state championships starting with his first year. Some of the parents want the head coach at the MS now, some want a current assistant, and some want an assistant at Graham now.  Basically as someone stated earlier this is going to get really muddy.
