The Blankenship boy from Tazewell rushed for more yards in one game last year (300+) against Abingdon than anyone has on richlands team through 9 games this season. That should tell you enough.

It was a joke, I know Hurley can't play with Abingdon, so don't get all upset.

Smokey Dogs are incredible, as a VT fan that was about the only thing I enjoyed about my trip to Neyland... well the dogs and the fact that Ohio almost beat them lol

I've heard that Tazewell treats the broadcasters well. My brother was in college when we played Martinsville on our way to the state title that year. He knew a guy at school whose dad worked the FB games for the Martinsville radio station. He said he never saw as much food in a press box.

Don't believe they are necessarily pointing fingers at each other. From what I understand they have great unity with each other and it shows on the field. I hear them screaming for each other on the sidelines and always have energy for each other. I believe they push each other to be better. But it's obvious that the offense has to put more points up or even get more plays off I believe I saw that the play difference was GC-79 and Battle-30 that's a huge margin. And the defense was on the field a long time. Very impressed with the defense. But I believe I will take Battle in this one, I believe the offense will get something going and defense do their thing!

Coach Mance has the support of the Richlands community, his players and assistant coaches.
People who come to sports boards calling for his resignation are total idiots.
    Get a life.

If Abingdon avoids the let down factor, they'll win by whatever margin they want. If not, they win by 2-3 TDs.

You sir.........are absolutely right !  We have been so very blessed to have the sustained success we have had, very few teams have been as good for as long !  Would it be nice to have won 1 or 2 more state championships in that time.........of course,  but a lot of the people that complain probably never stepped foot on a field and have no idea how hard it is to win a state championship in the first place !  The work, athletes and a hell of a lot of luck that is involved is amazing and just to make the playoffs for as long as we have and especially the deep runs we have had is just fantastic !
I am extremely proud of our coaches and players !
We have had a great year at 8 & 1 and still had a chance to win Fridays game with a little luck & if we score on 1 or 2 more times that we were in the red zone,  but sometimes a team plays better and you lose,  and you have to credit Abingdon with a great game plan,  but I still love this team.  Some of these id.......never mind,  but some of these guys need to be careful what they wish for,  they may get it and wish they didn't !  When Mance does leave,  we will have a very hard time finding a coach as dedicated and as good as he has been !
And that's all I got to say about that right there !

This. I know several members of the coaching staff who have seen comments from the community of how Mance needs to be fired. They aren't very happy. Our fans are spoiled brats in that regard. There are 20+ schools in our area who would love to have HALF the success this program has had. We need not take it for granted.

Yeah it's hard to project. Certainly, it's going to be an adjustment, but I'm heartened to see that at least this year, Boothe has gotten plenty of meaningful reps. When he's come into the game in a blowout situation, Reed has let him run the offense (at least to some degree), continuing to pass with a running clock. In my opinion, that's the only kind of rep that really helps development. Just look at how unprepared (to take over as the starter the next year) each successive QB was under Frank Beamer was post-Vick, because they never did anything other than hand off when they came into a game. As a former E&H OC told me after a 50-0 victory, "Chris, I'm not paid to stop my own offense. If my team has scored 43 points and a 3rd string QB who's never attempted a pass at the collegiate level throws a TD to a fullback who I've never seen catch a pass in practice, and you're going to complain that I'm running it up? Tough shit. Get better. I'm not taking food off my family's table because of your feelings."

i hope they get Pulaski. Much rather see that game. No disrespect to Boothe, et al, but im afraid Sturgill may have us spoiled. I have no idea what's behind the Juniors as far as talent...so my concern may be unfounded. But Sturgill isn't an every year talent.

Also with you guys on the "Graham playing down" talk. I have never thought that way. Their situation is not altogether unlike Abingdon's ever since they became the lone 3A team on an island in far SWVA. I think I read earlier in the week in this thread or another someone questioning Abingdon's SOS. But the truth of it is, there aren't any 3A schools to play the Falcons South of Christiansburg or West of Patrick County (which is some trek for a regular season game). So unless you're talking about Christiansburg, BBurg, Patrick County or the Roanoke schools, or going out of state (perhaps a foray into TN, which the Falcons have done several times in previous years), there's not much they can do to play on their "level." All this to say, in a year like last year where the Blue Tornado thoroughly waxed the Falcons, AHS was being penalized twice under the current setup: once by even playing Richlands and twice by losing (forget the margin), which is absurd considering that Richlands was obviously the better team. So I'm not really sure that the current setup provides the equity it intends to.

Lastly, as for AHS' 2017 schedule makeup, I have it on good authority that they will be doing/attempting to do the following things:

    Dropping:
    CBurg
    Graham
    Lebanon
    Va High
    Tazewell
    Marion

    Adding Mountain District Foes:
    Wise Central
Gate City (already on schedule from previous years)
John Battle (already on schedule every year)
    Lee
    Ridgeview
    Union

and with the remaining two games, they will be adding Pulaski and Hidden Valley (Roanoke), which gives them a schedule in some form or sort of:

    Battle
    GC
    Pulaski
    BBurg
    Wise Central
    Lee
    Ridgeview
    Richlands
    Union
    Hidden Valley

I always use Google Maps to get an idea of what to expect when we go to a school that we're not familiar with as far as seating and parking. It helps quite a bit.

Graham's 7/8 team won their first game of the season against Marion.  Then got smacked in the mouth every game after that.  If the principal decides to bring back the same two coaches again next year Greg Mance will have several "recruits" headed his way.

I don't think the JV won a game.

From what I hear they have plenty of talent,  I guess we will see how it plays out.

Let's be real none of us know anything about a backup qb from a school 3.5 hours away. If you're a Richlands or Appomatox fan you're hoping he's 2002 David Carr and if you're a Graham fan you're hoping he's 2004 Ben Roethlisberger.

I don't remember Graham really running it OVER Abingdon as much as running it BY Abingdon. Sure, their offensive line was as physical as I've seen this year, and if that's what you're referencing, my bad, but both Cousin and Meade (in particular) was so fast/shifty, they just ran right by Abingdon. Meade may have broken some tackles late on Graham's last drive, but to me it was more of a dropback, designed QB run or no one open, Meade takes off, leaves the front 7 in the dust and jukes out several others on his way to continual first downs.

As for Cousin, AHS had him pretty much bottled up (under 50 yards on the night) except for those 4 long gainers that went for 6. I know it sounds ridiculous for someone who had over 200 yards and 4 TDs, but for the majority of the game, he had nothing going against the Falcons. It's just that when he got 2nd level (again, credit Graham for opening up Monster Truck sized wholes), no Falcon could catch him. Honestly, his performance last year against Abingdon was even better, because he ruled the whole second half.

I think what happened there was that refs thought the RHS defender had held or PI'd DeSalvo before DeSalvo tackled the defender. Did they call PI or did they call holding on RHS? I can't remember. Either way, I think the refs saw what they thought was a penalty on RHS before the tackle. To me thats the only explanation. The refs huddled for a minute before announcing the call. I'm not saying it was the correct call at all....but we saw the AHS player tackle the defender and that made AHS crowd breath a sigh of relief and the RHS crowd boo when they called it on RHS.

Ginger and I were talking, if they're going to do this, why don't they just kick it out of bounds every time? It'd be better for field position and then you wouldn't have to worry about the return. They haven't gotten close to creating a turnover with that play outside of tonight, and that was on the elements.
