This is awesome! 

I think Hurley got the cream of the Slate Creek crew........welcome aboard.

We're back and ready to do some pickin'.  But first, as you know, we've been gone. The reason, Uncle Percy and his Bucket List.  Surprised me too. Uncle Percy decided that it was time to do something different.  Well, WE did.  More of that later.  We saw a lot of crazy things and people, but nothing as crazy as what's been going on with VHSL Playoffs, Tazewell High, Bu-chan-an County (Uncle Percy took a political correctness class in California), and other wild doings and rumors.  Uncle Percy says that we go on a trip and the VHSL screws things up worst than before. As Uncle says, never trust anything that has VHSL being used.

We hear that last year was a big cannon boom for The Rebels and another down year for the War Eagles. We hear that the Rebs lost a lot of their fire power from last year. However, for this battle the Rebs will more than enough firepower for these War Eagles. Look for the feathers to being flying around like at a Saturday Night Kentucky Chicken Fight.  The Eagles will not break their losing streak at The Cliff.

Another is it true or rumor. We get back and hear that this could be Coach Mance's last year at the helm of the BIG BLUE WIN MACHINE. If so, THE BBWM will get er cranked up and be at full wind force this Friday. As usual, The BLUE DEVILS will bring their A-GAME to R-TOWN thinking about sneaking a win back to THE DEVIL'S DEN, since the BBWM lost some Big Hosses from last year's team. However, these IMPS are in for a BIG SURPRISE, the BBWM is reloaded and will be at full force. Before this is over, these Devils will be wishing that they had wings so they could get out of DODGE as quick as possible after this tussle.

After crossing 6 MOUNTAINS and 5 Rivers The P Knob Cats get to play on an uphill slanted field in a semi-hole. This is no Rumor or Tall Tale folks, BUT THE TRUTH. You play 2 Quarters going DOWNHILL and 2 going UPHILL. Crazy but True. However, The Kentucky Cavaliers will find themselves going uphill all night and The P Knob Cats will be going downhill all night like a runway train. P Nob Coach, take the short cut, go to Elkhorn City, cut across to 23, turn left. Only 3 Mountains and 2 Rivers to cross.

FINALLY, after all the VHSL craziness, rumors, etc. that happened while we were away, SOMETHING NORMAL. As usual, the Warriors and Candy Canes will be kicking off the Smyth County Braggin' Rights Contest. Both teams we being doing a bunch of trash talking, trying to knock off the other's shoulder chip off, jaw smackin' contest. Look for the CANES to get in the last jaw smack of the night as they give the Warriors an early Christmas present of striped candy canes.

Their junior class is even deeper.  I think the step back comes after this upcoming season.  

They've got a couple of stud returners, but their own fans over on Preps have said for the past two years that this year would be a step back. That said, they are still the favorites until proven otherwise.
 

Since this will be Mance ' s last ride I'm sure this will be the biggest class yet.

The fans focus is on Howie. The boys have said they will play for him and win for him. They are focused. Doesn't mean a hill of beans what a bunch of dudes on a message board are talking about. Mance will have them ready.

Got two interjections
I am a coach and I sent a clear message at the beginning of the season. No one is to acknowledge another teams players or coaching staff. If this happen, it's immediate dismissal. It has worked well so far.
 
If a player is at an any game, they are under the direct supervisor of the school's officials (coach) and can not leave their supervision until after the game or are released to a guardian. Therefore as a coach you must decide where is an appropriate place to supervise this individual. Wrong or right? I do not know but, this my rationale to form a educated assumption.
 
I wish Richlands a safe trip and hope this individual is forgiven for his mistake.

I hate it for the kid period.....From the pictures I saw yea he taunted but for the SD principle to not give in is his right..Sour grapes being the reason? definitely in my opinion...I'm sure Mance will put 11 horses on the field and charge onward. I'll be pulling for the Blues.
 
PS...If I'm the SD principle I'd have to dig deep and give the kid a pass...Have to be a very flagrant penalty such as a punch or fight for me to want him off the field but that's me.

I think this one is a toss up, they have a great O but our D has been the biggest improvement the last several weeks. Their  D is no where as strong as their O, and they haven't faced a back as good as Beck this season. And I don't think we have faced a back as good as Overstreet this year either.  Look for a few new wrinkles in the D this week hoping to make SR throw the ball. If we can hold them to 28 we will win

McCracken was the best QB I've ever saw at Richlands and the most under used.....

Salem looks like a really nice facility.  And as a wheelchair user, it looks very wheelchair friendly and the accessible seats are about halfway up the stands on each 30 yard line instead of down low like most high school football stadiums. 
 
Will be nice to watch a game without not being able to see because of the players on the sidelines, people standing in front of me, etc.  At 4' tall, it is hard to see over anybody!!! lol

Asbury isn't even close to the best high school QB I've ever seen...good player though

Hazard lost 21-14 to Beechwood in the title game. Alot of talent in that corner of Pike Co. and Mingo Co. Belfry and Mingo Central is probably a 30 to 40 minute drive from one another and they have two state titles this year

I wish this could be a regular season thing; schools are only about 2 hours away and have identical enrollment figures

Question now is....does Mance have one more trick up his sleeve? I know everyone is going to say they don't have a chance, but I think if they can keep it a fumble free/turnover free game it will be interesting to see what happens. Richlands has to be a scary "underdog" for any team to face.

Never mind I understand what your saying. And that's exactly what I was saying... When both your personal fouls are for the same thing, you don't stand a good chance with an appeal!

Be hard to appeal 2 taunting penalties. Especially when that's one of the big no no's in high school football.

Didn't you hear? They ran it occasionally against mediocre competition, so they have a great running game. Obviously.
