  1. Neither team looked impressive to be honest. The game seemed to go on forever. Stroupe #45 had a really good game though for us & Earls from Richlands is pretty decent for a sophomore. Looks like they'll be fighting it out for last place in conference.
  2. Graham fans definitely got $100 for the $6 we paid to watch, Richlands' fans should have probably been issued a refund for the night.
  3. His size might be an issue for D1 unless he moved to point guard. He's a good enough ball handler for that in my opinion.
  4. Darrin is an all-around good player. He can drive inside just as a easily he can put up three pointers but at the same time he doesn't want to pass it off and let somebody else score. He's a good ball handler. He hustles on offense and defense and makes the opponent work really hard to keep control of the ball. So I'd say he's just as good if not better than Roman.
  5. Martin is a senior who has only played two & half years of varsity and recently scored his 1000th point. That usually takes most players four years on varsity. He should be somewhere in the top just my opinion. I'm biased though.
  6. I don't think dropping better teams to play worse teams that you know you are going to beat is necessarily doing your own team any favors but that's just my opinion . Richlands gave up playing Bluefield this year to play in a single A tournament cupcake tournament in Twin Valley. Guessing he was made to pick Union back up after he dropped them last year since girls basketball & other sports still played them. He has a group of boys who have played together since rec league and are solid players. He keeps calling it a rebuilding year. Okay, I give him he lost talent but he's got a couple who were more & are more talented than at least two of his starters from last year; they should have started then but once again just my opinion. Yes, there are a lot of us out here very familiar with what and who perpetrated Jody Fuller being dismissed. Situations like that rarely make anyone look good, honestly. As far as school history, he made boys basketball history but girls had won region & been to state way before Phillips won those "two" regional games.
  7. You have to give it to Mance, he played up in football while Phillips has played down in basketball.
  8. You think? Should have kept Fuller, Phillips is a joke. Everybody knows Chris Moir orchestrated the whole fiasco. She wanted Phillips, she got him. She probably had a hand in the girls' coach stepping down. They're doing terrible too. When is the last time Richlands girls or boys dropped both regular season games to Graham? School boards shouldn't play politics with athletes but I guess it happens everywhere.
  9. I'm glad to see Richlands boys picked Union back up , playing single teams all the time doesn't really improve their game but playing Union will help in the long run. Play up instead of down
  10. I'm tending to agree with you about Lebanon winning conference.
  11. Thought I would take in the varsity girls & boys action between Richlands and Graham. I must say the girls game was pitiful. I've known our girls aren't that good this season and figured Richlands would beat us. I cannot remember the last time we even beat them in girls' basketball much less beat them handily while playing lousy. It wasn't pretty but it was a win. I'll stick with my prediction Tazewell wins conference.
  12. That was pretty dang close. GMen served the Blues up on a silver platter. Blues lucky their coach wasn't sent to locker room. Graham has a solid All Around team and the "Dream Team" graduated.
  13. That's what we like to see in state championships, nail biter to the end. Congratulations to both teams!
  14. I've heard good things about this young team. I'd also be interested to know why Richlands dropped Bluefield from their schedule. I know they got beat last year but it's my experience you want your team to play "up" instead of "down". The Richlands boys dropped Bluefield last year. I think it would have benefitted them to play a harder team before heading to state playoffs. In general, a winning record isn't worth much if you're playing teams you can beat easily. Back to topic, I think Honaker girls are going to be a force to reckon with the next year or two.
  15. As for Honaker, they're young but with talent & great potential. They beat Richlands tonight by 14 after losing to Tazewell last week. Don't think it's this year but give them a couple years, they could have a good shot at state.
  16. They beat Richlands by 14 tonight. JV beat them something like 25-6 I believe. For a young team, Honaker will be a true force in a year or two. Shoot maybe this year, it's a wait & see I guess.
  17. Should never got rid of Fuller, biggest mistake, Currie should be the one fired
  18. I agree! I remember her from last season and she will definitely be a key play maker for Bulldogs.
  19. 4 minutes ago, Ryan4VT Knowing Richlands, it was probably a case of somebody's princess not being coddled, making her work hard, or not getting as much playing time as mommy & daddy wanted. Smells like another Jody Fuller incident. Gotta love school board politics. I have a friend whose daughter played under Palmer. He's always said good things about him as a coach & person. I don't know Palmer or Lowe personally but I'm sure both are good guys. I still stick with my original thought that Tazewell looks be strong team this year especially with transfer player.
  20. GMen unfortunately went into the game ill prepared and definitely with a bad strategy and they panicked and never recovered. Union knew how to shut us down & we couldn't make adjustments. Just like Richlands game, Cooke was basically irrelevant and we couldn't make adjustments and luckily squeaked it out. I know I catch flack from other Graham supporters but I'm a realist even when it comes to my own team.,Bears won fair & square and outplayed us. Hope Union can beat Appo Saturday!
  21. His daughter is a senior I believe. The Burton girl if I'm remembering correct from seeing them play Graham last year, somebody mentioned she was asst coach's daughter. I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong though.
  22. Probably another Chris Moir move to get another daddy in as basketball coach. I agree with other post, Tazewell should be strong this year.
  23. Union has a much better shot at beating Appo this year than Richlands did last year. I don't foresee a humiliating outcome. I think it will be close. Home field advantage is sure to benefit Bears. Nothing but respect for Union. They owned GMen today. Panic set in with players & coaches today. Appo won't panic but I give Union the advantage going in to the game. Hopefully, we'll see a state champion come out of SWVA this year.
