  1. Currently: 2A: Bullitt Park (Union); 1A: Warriors Stadium (Chilhowie) In the past:2A: Legion Field (Gate City), Bullitt Park (Powell Valley), Stephen C. Ragsdale Stadium (Giles); 1A Riggs Stadium (Appalachia), Ralph Cummins Stadium (Clintwood)
  2. And for any Tazewell fans not familiar with the area, do not, under any circumstance, stop in neighboring Petersburg.
  3. Good call, gentlemen. Princeton gets my vote as well.
  4. Correct. Macado's closed the Mercer Mall location and relocated to Bluefield, VA into the former Ryan's Steakhouse near Bluefield College.
  5. I haven't been to Ernie Hicks in 30 years or more, but I can still remember the announcer like it was yesterday. I don't know if it was Slick Cook back then, but that person NEVER stopped talking for the entire game. He did play-by-play, color commentary, concession stand reviews, promotions, or just talked about whatever else was on his mind for three straight hours. He was just as entertaining as the game. Anyway, I wish the best to Mr. Cook on his retirement.
  6. Does this mean Conner Creasy will start at QB instead?
  7. I see where some mouth breather voted Bluefield #1 this week.
  8. It's always difficult for me to fathom TC Williams' (now Alexandria) student population (Total 3,955/ ADM 3,286) If anybody finds it interesting, I made some random comparisons with other schools. TC Williams/Alexandria is: larger than the 25 smallest schools in Virginia combined. larger than the 19 smallest schools in the SWVA (VA) coverage area combined 12% larger than SWVA's four largest schools combined (Pulaski Co, Carroll Co, Abingdon, and Radford). 31% larger than the Southwest District. 51% larger than the Hogoheegee. 65% larger than the Cumberland. 74% larger than the Black Diamond. just 6% smaller than the Mountain 7. just 7% smaller than the Hogoheegee, Black Diamond, and Cumberland Districts combined. 5% larger than Bristol, Washington Co, and Smyth Co schools combined. 14% larger than Lenowisco Planning District schools(Lee, Norton, Wise, and Scott). 4% larger than the Cumberland Plateau Planning District schools (Tazewell, Dickinson, Buchanan, and Russell). 4% larger than Pulaski Co, Giles Co, Radford, Bland Co, and Wythe Co schools combined. 56% larger than the Twin Co area schools (Carroll, Galax, and Grayson). 10% larger than Roanoke City schools (Patrick Henry and William Fleming).
  9. Blues' Josh Perkins (previously mentioned by @old_school_blue ) kicking the eventual game-winning FG in '92 against Marion in Double OT. It was an absolute clutch kick in the worst of conditions. I was standing on the top row of the visitors bleachers just out of frame. The photo was posted here a number of years ago by the Mayor @cityofRaven
  10. I was at the Marion game in '92. The Blues (8-0) dominated the first half until the rains turned the field at Ernie into a bog. A mediocre Marion (3-4) team then started gashing the Blues' D and even shutdown the prolific Brannon Breeding. The Canes would tie the game in regulation with Richlands ultimately winning 38-35 in 2OT. The obsessively meticulous Vaught likely let the muddy near miss against the Canes cloud his judgement. The '92 Blues were great, but they were not an unbeatable juggernaut. All we can say for sure is a profoundly selfish decision robbed two great teams and communities of a fair and objective outcome.
  11. Marion will play the CHS Warriors for the second week in a row. Unfortunately for the Canes, that's where the similarities end.
  12. Scott and Tazewell Counties go 5-1 and Gate City was the 1.
  13. I was leaning toward the Bulldogs in this matchup until I read BHC's SWD preview. Apparently Conner Creasy has replaced Carter Creasy at QB. I just question the strategy of having a Division 1 golfer run your offense. https://heraldcourier.com/sports/2022-southwest-district-football-preview-capsules/article_a2e10a58-2424-11ed-a79e-c7bc37482dab.html
  14. 3,000 yards by three different backs for three consecutive seasons is, in my opinion, the most astounding accomplishment of the Dixon era.
  15. Thanks for actually caring enough to ask. Some voters won't even bother to learn about teams on the geographic periphery such as Radford, Pulaski Co., or any WV school not named Bluefield.
  16. Who do you think you are? I AM!!!
  17. Ironically, that's what everybody says about Thomas Walker.
  18. 97 players would be nearly 44% of the school's male population. That's almost inconceivable.
  19. IMHO, a high school stadium in its truest form would be an on-campus stadium owned by the school system itself. Stadiums used by Salem and Virginia High seem to be a degree removed from that standard in that they're owned by the parent political subdivisions (i.e. Cities of Salem and Bristol) rather than the school system itself. Union would be another degree removed in that WCSB leases the stadium from the Town of Big Stone Gap. Graham is yet another step removed in that TCSB leases a shared stadium that's not only out-of-town but is out-of-state.
  20. I don't know how the Providence game came to be, but I clearly remember why it was necessary. Richlands was having difficulty scheduling OOD opponents following the '92 season, as a number of area schools 'boycotted" the Blues. The rehiring of Dennis Vaught as head coach in '95 didn't really help the matter.
  21. I could always throw an "off-speed" ball. It was every other pitch I couldn't master.
  22. "The bigger the stage the better she plays" definitely applies to Emmah McAmis. The Freshman's stat line in the title game: 34 points,10 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals
