My opinion...for Grundy to improve long term, and this is just my 2 cents...5 things that would really help:

-kicker training. Doug Blevins has a kicking camp and is considered one of if not THE best kicking instructors in the world...and he is right in our back yard and willing to help kids learn. I would be sending some of those 9th graders that will otherwise be standing on the sidelines doing nothing for years to come to learn how to kick and also long snap. Every year there should be at least 2 of the 9th graders trained and whoever was sent previously continued training. With work these kids who would otherwise never see the field would become assets to your team. We had to go for 2 every time this year because we really just can't kick an extra point. Last year we had the Mutter kid kicking (self trained with Blevins) and he was all state and we were a threat to score anytime we got near the 30 yard line. I can point to examples where that kid turned a game around and pretty much won the game or allowed Grundy to be in a position to win the game just with his leg.

-weight lifting - essential year round. We had all the football players lifting weights in 7th period gym year round. You can't wait until august to start lifting and expect any results. You get your linemen and you tell them in no uncertain terms that you don't lift then you don't play...I don't care who it is, no lift then no play. Lots of improvements could be made here, starts with the kids getting in there and putting in the time.

-speed and resistance training - right now it simply doesn't exist...and it needs to.

    - schedule - Look, I like playing the old SWD teams as much as anyone...but getting beat 60-0 is not putting more kids in the program. Short term I think you have to look at who you can beat and schedule the easy game, get your 10 wins and go 1 and out in the playoffs if you have to. I hate it's like that but I think if the kids know they are going to win some games I think more would stick with it and want to play...over time you could increase the level of competition once you get your program on more solid ground. For now, take the wins and get more kids involved. Strength in numbers. I'm not saying play a bunch of 1 win teams, but find some people you can at least compete with.

    - focus on getting the lower level kids out and actually playing and learning the game...tradition and work ethic starts young.

hell...i was going to say this...but, couldn't say it any better.

You want to win you have to "learn" speed and put in the work...no one around here wants to do it anymore. Most of these modern day "powerhouses" couldn't stay within 30 points of some of the old 2-8 or worse teams from 30 years ago...and that's a fact.

It's nothing else other than kids now are lazy. All the huge kids are walking the halls, playing call of duty, and eating chips. You wouldn't believe the kids who could be D1 prospects that walk the halls at all these high schools.

Grundy didn't give Honaker the same scare they gave Haysi, because they turned the ball over, but they played them pretty tough for the most part the entire game instead of just the first half...they were able to hold Honaker several times on 3rd down, which I was honestly surprised as Grundy had one of it's best hitters on defense out....i guess for Honaker folks that have not seen Grundy play every game this year like I have it might have just looked like a regular 47-6 win but for me there were some small victories there for the Grundy kids at times compared to previous efforts.

Just from seeing both play I think the advantage goes to Haysi on the run game and Honaker has the better QB advantage...the O line and defense seem to be about the same to me....will be interesting to see how it plays out. I just hope the refs are not a factor.

I will say I was also impressed with the way the Honaker kids handled themselves last night, from what I saw it was nothing but a class act.

if you dont want people to score, stop them, if you can't stop them...get better.

It is what it is. The "honorable" thing is to not "run up" the score, but you can't really hold a grudge when you are playing a school that is the same size or smaller than you are and they beat you 67-0

Lloyd stays on the road so it might take him a few days to ship them out, but no worries, he will get them out for sure...he's an honest guy.

I don't see how he does what he does...talked to him last night at 2am and he was doing girls volleyball article write ups. When Lloyd retires they will have to hire 5 people to take his place lol...and I'm not kidding.

All of the mods have been told to move things to the mod forum instead of deleting it...that way if there is anything that needs to be done we can talk it over...spam of course is a different case. I guess I need to figure out how to set it so me and Gman can do the deletions and the mods can just move things out of the public areas if need be.

There are times when things get said that really need to be contained, i have no idea if this was one of them or what exactly happened, but as a rule i really don't like to censor what is said unless it's really needed.

Grundy's win against TV wasn't easy by any means. Game was a lot closer than the score would lead you to believe.

How is Nick's foot? Is he going to be able to play? I saw a pic on facebook and it looks horrible. I feel bad for the kid, that has got to be a lot of pain.

If he can't go that's going to put who, Biliter at QB?  Who played for Grundy last year...

Seems like every year we have the same story line to this game lol.

Lebanon is not that good,. Grundy just gave up the ghost up the middle. You can't allow a QB sneak to go for an untouched TD 3 or 4 times in a game and expect to win...this makes two years in a row that Grundy has laid a turd against Lebanon.

Grundy can play a lot better than it did last week, it's just a question of if they will play any better than they did last week....they have a lot of first year players that are starting and it's just going to take some time for those kids to get settled in and play with consistency. It's only week 3, not time to hit the panic button yet.

Grundy got thumped pretty good tonight by Gate City and Grayson...be a good thing for them this early on playing some legit competition.

    Gate City 28-12
    Grayson Co 49-16

Saw a lot of things Grundy needs to work on tonight, but saw a lot of good things as well...and the boys seemed pretty upbeat at the end...it's tall order to play 3 qtrs against Gate City then face a fresh Grayson Co team!
