Demand for soccer generated by new residents associated with law and pharmacy schools?  Purely a wild guess on my part.
They'd be better served by building from the ground up with youth programs and certified coaches if they're serious about playing, IMO.

I guarantee that cost will be much less than the $50,000 the City of Bluefield wants to charge for the use of Mitchell Stadium...
 

The NCAA is BS...UNC's athletics program should get the death penalty for 10 years for all their crap.

UVA self-reported 32 Tier II NCAA violations, and today received its punishment from the NCAA.  The violations?  Three of our assistant coaches took selfies with 32 total recruits.
 
in related news, UNC continues to obfuscate the NCAA in its 6-year-old investigation involving wholly fake classes and grades to 800+ "student"-athletes over a 19-year period.  No punishments yet.

If he did resign over player turnout for weight room good for him! Parents whine and go to board members wanting coaches removed. Then when you get a coach, the kids don't show up. Coach can't make kids show up, without the help of parents to hold these kids accountable. I think the loud voices who keep wanting new coaches need to go home and get their house in order.

Exactly. I've never said Richlands' coaches recruit but you're naive to think that the players, parents, & community members don't. That isn't against the rules.  
To second what other people have said all of us would love for our schools to get the athletes that Richlands does. I wouldn't turn them away, nor would I expect coach Mance & staff to. I take no issue with this.
 
I mainly have 2 issues over the transfer ordeal:
 
1. The kids. - how can you abandon your lifelong friends, The kids you grew up with to transfer to a rival just to chase a ring? My dad brought me up to always see things to the end. I remember being young and him telling me that if something is hard then you stick it out until the end & if you look for an easier way out you'll never get stronger. This Applies here.
 
2. Fans. - just call it what it is. You get these local transfers because they're there to play football. Don't try to justify it by saying their family "moved" there and they had no choice in the matter. It's been going on for 7 years now, we all know better. If a kid is moving from NC or FL I'm sure they didn't just come to richlands to play ball so that doesn't bother me. But when you've received good athletes from Tazewell, Bluefield, War, and Swords Creek among others just call it like it is. Don't say they "moved" there for other reasons. They're not there because their mothers family is from there. There not there because Richlands has a thriving job market. They're not there because the academics are any better. They're there to play football and win more games than they're used to. Nothing more than that. It's ok to embrace the kids that are playing for your team, & it's also okay to embrace the real reason they're there.
 
I think coach Mance is an awesome coach and as respectful and nice as anyone I've ever talked to. He's built a hell of a program and I understand why people want to play on his team. I'm not trying to start a fight with these comments. It's not meant to be a shot at anyone in particular on here. I just wish kids had more respect and loyalty to their team, coaches, & community instead of jumping ship the minute a Richlands starter graduates.

Sadly,  teams become victims of their own success. Fans get "used to it," and begin to expect it, deep playoff runs become the norm and a successful season is seen by many as a failure if the Championship trophy isn't brought back to town. 
 
The real losers are the kids, whether it be those that established the tradition and commitment or the ones who are trying to carry on the legacy. Their efforts seem to be undermined when this happens. 
 
When Grundy started their run in wrestling, we witnessed police escorts, victory parades down 460 all the way to town, now hardly even a mention of it at school, not even a ceremony in front of the student body.

The last good year for the SWD was when you had Graham, Tazewell, Richlands, Grundy, Lebanon, Marion, Patrick Henry, Abingdon, John Battle, Virginia, and Gate City.  That was around 1985.

What's the real reason Harding stepped down? If the man wanted to stay as head coach he should've been allowed to do so after the success he's had.

Grundy's offense had more sucess against Martinsville's defense than I expected they would and that's a "red flag" for Martinsville. Graham will run all over them with that speed and good blockers they have. I wouldn't sleep on Martinsville cause they do have some true talent but Graham fans your team will win this. Martinsville will not be able to match the G-Men.

That's strange...the farther you get away from Roanoke, the worse the teams seem to fare. I'm sure that's the case, because the alternative would be for the RT to not know what the Hell they're talking about.

Sorry VHSL Helper, this is one I have to agree with ghos88t on.  Grundy's schedule is pretty weak man.  Grundy would be a borderline great to elite team if they could just defend the pass.
