I wouldn’t doubt it if he’s one of the GC “fans” who have given the GC fan base a bad name around the area when GC is a powerhouse. 

A player on the G.C. team is raising money this season for childhood cancer research.
You callously use metastasized cancer as a metaphor to describe his Coach because you feel he's incompetent.
The arrogance and sense of entitlement has gone from amusing and annoying to disturbing and reprehensible.  
You seem to be a bright, intelligent, and humorous guy.  But spewing this vitriol about a good and decent man does not "unconditionally support the kids."  It only undermines the program and teaches them to behave poorly as adults.
 
 
 

It’s not the coaching. It’s not the effort. It’s the fact that GC is just flat in a down cycle. They don’t have the athletes they once had. It happens to everyone. But those kids don’t quit unlike the fan base who has quit on them. Hopefully they don’t listen too much. 

Did they change after each play or each series? Or did the offensive team get the cleats while the other team played in socks? Or was it the defensive team that wore the cleats? Did they change by position? That would suck if you were a wide receiver who wore a size 9 and the opposing wide receiver wore a size 13. And this begs the question, why couldn’t Richlands or Salem afford their own cleats? Why did they have to wear the same cleats? And how in the hell did one of these teams make the playoffs playing an entire season without cleats? This needs to be an entire podcast episode, like a 30for30 or something

Reverse the roles. Give Salem the long cleats this time.

Gate City is in this CYCLE for a myriad of reasons. 
 
Lack of talent is one. I am certain the players try. I feel bad for them for all of this. 
 
Incompetent coaching is another. 
 
Quit expecting them to automatically be dominant again IF Reed gets the job. It is going to take time. 

So, nothing. Ok. 

And how do we know Reed will fair any better than Akers? How do we know Reed will even get it?
 
Lack of talent is part of it. Poor leadership makes it that much worse. Gate City is capable of winning certain games. Unfortunately the coaching may prevent it. 

And if Reed gets it, a new one will begin.
Hopefully, for GC, he'll be happy at DC.

And then the VT Football program just compounds it.  One, to think that Matthew (a minimal hurricane at that time that was 80 Miles offshore) is comparable to a direct hit from a Category 4 hurricane.  Two, to add gasoline to the already hot flames Babcock created.

I guess the matter’s settled. 

This reminds me of a pre-consolidation incident at a football game in 2009. It was JJ Kelly at Appalachia. Appalachia always entered the field by the goal post in front of the Dawg House. JJ Kelly fans and team created a fan tunnel at that spot. Appalachia felt disrespected and started walking through the tunnel and there was a confrontation between the teams. 
 
While it may have been disrespectful on JJ Kelly’s part, Appalachia’s team handled it the wrong way. 
 
Again, I am sure Union’s band director did not intend on anything wrong. I am sure it was a miscommunication that led to Union entering too early. But the moment the Richlands team began to do what they did, it was the wrong decision. Nobody was hurt to my knowledge but it doesn’t mean it was right. Someone could have been hurt. 
 
I saw the video and pictures. I wasn’t there. I can say that a lot of fans from Union, Richlands, and other fan bases were less than flattered by the team’s actions. 
I do think an apology should be made and we can move forward. 

I'm guessing the band had no clue as to the pregame huddle ritual and presumed once the announcer welcomed them to the field the football players would exit. Sometimes, even when one doesn't feel as though they're in the wrong, an apology can smooth things over. That would be the option, I'd take if I were Richlands. Swallow that Blue Tornado pride and say sorry even if you blame the band. Just my humble insight, I wasn't there.

Union is not to blame for that fiasco.  Visiting bands go on the field when the home school tells them to.  

I would say that most people would disagree, including quite a few Richlands fans.

I can see why Chilhowie was ranked first. Last season they made it the farthest and return a lot. 
 
Would Ridgeview and Union beat Chilhowie? Probably. 
 
Relax. It’s only preseason. There will certainly be some changes to the top 5 as the season progresses. 

I saw her working at Belk in Wise when I still lived in the area. 
 
She was as nice and polite as she was when her boys played in high school. 
In reference to an earlier comment somebody made, I did hear that kids at Witten’s camp did enjoy it more than Jones’ but Witten may have just had a better camp. What’s that person’s point. 
I did find his tweet about BSG arrogant but he apologized for it. 
 
He is a pretty good guy from the interactions I have had with him. I don’t recall him saying he came from nothing. I think it is ridiculous that people are saying these crazy things about him.

We beat VT like a drum in almost everything else.  VT fans are the ones fooling themselves if they believe the football superiority is worth being the little brother in the rest.
