  3. RULES 1. A student can live anywhere and start their 9th grade year wherever they choose. However, that school then becomes their designated school.. 2. If that student decides to return to the school where his or her physical residence is, they must still sit out one year, or receive special permission from the local school board and be granted a hardship waiver or other type of waiver. 3. If a student transfers to another school after attending 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th at another school, A PHYSICAL ADDRESS CHANGE must take place or the student must sit out one year from the date of transfer. (Waivers can also be granted in this situation, but are rare) 4. If a student is attending a school and then has to attend another school due to their parents being separated , that student is eligible to participate at the new school. The separation needs to be a legal separation. 5. If a student who has switched schools due to a parental separation and then decides to switch back to live with the other parent, the VHSL will grant them eligiblity, based on the District filing a form and approving a ONE TIME transfer due to separation. That pretty much sums it up in layman terms,

  10. IMHO The time needed to establish the program will never be afforded to Coach Harris. The Middle School parents will be shocked when there 14 and 15 year old kids lose to 18 and 19 year old seniors and they will invariably blame the coach. A lack of parental intelligence at one level, is passed on to the next level. I wish the best for Coach Harris but he needs to stand with his back to the wall during this process.

  12. From a coaching perspective, I would have to disagree vehemently with a shot clock. The petty argument that teams "it would keep teams from holding the ball," is a non-issue. Sure, some teams from time to time decide to freeze the ball but this is not an epidemic and it is not an issue. Furthermore, the adaptation of the shot clock was designed for monetary reasons. IMO the use of a shot clock in h.s. would be a detriment to fundamentals. In the grand scheme of things it would/could hurt the overall quality of basketball down the line. (due to fundamentals being impacted). If a shot clock were to ever be implemented, I would support at least :45, I do think that smaller schools would be impacted negatively by a shot clock, especially teams with a small roster. I would like to see the jump ball implemented again and the possession arrow done away with on jump ball situations. I also cannot see an advantage to moving the three point line back. IMO, the very implementation of the three point line, in many ways, has been detrimental to player development, (we all know that smaller kids, fall in love with the 3, long before they have enough strength to properly shoot the shot). I am of the opinion that any changes that are done to "add to the drama of the game," "make it more exciting," "help sell more tickets, " is the wrong mindset to have when desiring changes to the game. The games will provide the drama, we aren't in the entertainment business and we aren't trying to sell advertising on t.v. When we take that approach to making changes, we have already lost the purpose of why we play and coach the game. Just some random thoughts....
  13. Call me NOSTRADAMUS, just got my timing wrong...... Posted by bucfan64 on 16 December 2016 - 01:27 PM in SWVA Football So, what everyone is saying is that Colobro may very well get the job. With that being said, I will change the direction of this thread and ask the question that everyone wants to know. Who will get the job in two years after they run him off?
  14. If grandma had balls, she'd be grandpa!
  15. So, who will replace Colobro.........?

  17. Sadly, teams become victims of their own success. Fans get "used to it," and begin to expect it, deep playoff runs become the norm and a successful season is seen by many as a failure if the Championship trophy isn't brought back to town. The real losers are the kids, whether it be those that established the tradition and commitment or the ones who are trying to carry on the legacy. Their efforts seem to be undermined when this happens. When Grundy started their run in wrestling, we witnessed police escorts, victory parades down 460 all the way to town, now hardly even a mention of it at school, not even a ceremony in front of the student body. "You don't know what you've got till its gone!"
  18. I know first hand that when coaches are ejected that they are not to be in the gymnasium/field and must leave the playing area. Likewise, they are not permitted to be in the gymnasium or on the field during the games included in the suspension. In regards to players, based on my experience with hoops, players have been allowed on the field/gym in casual dress, following an ejection. My knowledge of this is experience based, but that still doesn't mean that the acting officials, handled everything according to proper protocol. If I were guessing, he will be allowed to be on the sidelines, in dress clothes.
  19. One of the more significant reasons for some uncertainty is the cost of using these facilities. I can confirm with 100% accuracy that it is getting more difficult with each passing year to secure a facility at a reasonable cost. The VHSL is scrambling to find suitable locations that are affordable. Football is not a money maker, and every dime that they can save is being considered when hosting these games. In my opinion, the likelihood of all games being played at one location is a slim to zero prospect. The additional travel expense that would be afforded the farthest traveling schools would be a huge deterrent to such prospect. The rationale taken by the league is proximity, the majority of smaller schools in the state have a reasonable distance to travel to Salem. The larger schools in the state, tend to be Eastward and therefore the proximity of travel for them will be minimized by hosting closer to them. If a central location is chosen for the entire state, travel expenses paid out by the VHSL will increase. You are probably thinking, What about Basketball? Those games are played in one central location! Basketball makes money, football doesn't, it is much more expensive to pay travel expense fees for a football team of 50 players than a basketball squad of 12. By moving to one central location, the VHSL would see an increase in football related expenses, and remember, football at this point is not profitable. So, why make a decision that will result in losing even more money? Not saying that I like or support the current setup, but this is the reality, these are the discussions driving the decisions currently.
