There's no advantage to having two weeks for us to prepare for Galax when we basically play them twice a year lol! Outside of healing some bumps and bruises, that is, but as one GW poster mentioned, we need reps over rest. We needed them against Graham, we needed them against Bland, and we need them against Covington. 
Trust me....No one around here wanted any of those games cancelled. 

He's good people. Just let his emotions get to him and lost his mind. 

It was complete frustration that turned into a temper tantrum. I know in his heart he feels like he was defending the players, and I know a few folks over at The Fort that have been taking up for him last night into this morning on socials. I don't care what you believe is right or wrong, you absolutely cannot let those meltdowns happen, whether you're a coach, player, referee, or fan. Like I said, I laughed at the shit show...but not everyone did. And the situation was getting close to a tipping point. The police had to finally go to his truck (he was parked on the track) and tell him to get his ass outta there. 
I have to add that the kids from Fort were very classy, however, and there was a lot of hugs and pats on the back between players of both teams after the game. Regardless of record, they played hard to the end. 

Not him but I’ll answer. He went berserk after what he thought was a late ol hit out of bounds on the Fort sideline. Overheard the refs saying on the way out that he was obnoxiously screaming for calls after every play already. 
 
And you heard correctly. While walking across the field on his way out instead of around it, holding up game play. So mad at the refs, he flew the GW stands a double fisted fly over. 
 
I laughed lol! But I know the guy. However most don’t and it’s wasn’t a good look. Those folks at the Fort love him for it, tho.

We still have a ways to go, but I'm looking forward to seeing this bunch develop over the next couple of seasons. You guys take it easy on us, okay? lol We don't have the horses to run with y'all, but definitely looking forward to seeing you guys in person. 

Maybe the coaching staff read some of the comments on here & decided they needed to make some adjustments, lol. Definitely looks like GW headed in the right direction now. I'll be cheering against them in a few weeks though when they play Graham, lol. 

Yes they lost bad to Grayson County early in that season to. I just renewed the Union game because I was at it and remember a lot of games about to mail it in on that team until they just turned it on. 
 
Those teams were so evenly matched I believe Clintwood and GW would have split evenly if they played 10 game series'.

The sweetest thing about that 2011 Clintwood team and the 2012 GW team was the following week, they both went east with huge fan turnouts to semifinal games after a week of internet chatter about how we had zero chance and came away with wins.
To sweeten the pot, 2011 Galax and 2012 Honaker also took care of business at home in the semis, and we had two years of nothing but west representatives in the 1A title game. 
Giles stole the show in 2013 with a 2A championship to boot.
Absolutely my favorite stretch of time as a high school football fan.  

Gosnell went down in the 4th. Carroll was up 14-7 and GW was driving and deep in Carroll territory. Not sure how serious, but he never returned. They work that kid to death. 
 
On the flip side, the Webb kid for Carroll was all over the place on defense. 

This is correct. GW and Clintwood met in 2011 and 2012 in the quarterfinals as the west 2 and 3 seeds and split the series. The winner each of those years went on to win state titles.

Agreed. That officiating was so bad. Both schools had to suffer from it. Could be an exciting potential playoff rematch. We all know what happens when Giles and GW meet up for a rematch in the playoffs. It’s always a hell of a game.

GW has not had a losing season in 25 consecutive seasons and only has 2 in the last 32. I understand at face value, with Harner’s win-loss record a lot of folks can’t understand why some folks from Wytheville have gripes. The truth is that we were winning at that rate long before Harner arrived. We certainly didn’t flourish overnight under his watch. There are some legitimate concerns as to why we haven’t gotten over the hump during his time here. Yes, some is due to competition (particularly Galax and Riverheads), but we have, in fact, had teams that underachieved. 
 
However, the man has maintained our ability to remain competitive. As I’ve mentioned, I feel like his best coaching jobs have been with our lesser talented teams. While I’m not sure he’ll ever be a guy that can get us over the hump like we’ve been able to do in the past, things aren’t as bad as some from Wytheville make it out to be. He’ll still find ways to drive me bonkers….I’m confident in that lol! But our kids still play hard, and that’s the main thing to me. 
 
GW very well might snap that 25 year streak this season. Time will tell. Between a beefed up schedule and a lack of experience, it’ll be a tough year. But we cannot place the blame on Harner if that doesn’t happen. As a matter of fact, a 5-5 season would be a helluva job on his part.

I’m glad this series has picked back up as well. I remember some great games between Giles/GW especially as a player. Good luck to you guys tomorrow. I’ll be stationed at the 40 yard line underneath the train horn lol. Hopefully we’ll get to see a great, injury free game.

Not a Harner fan here, but that has nothing to do with offensive play calling. Ironically, I feel like his best coaching jobs have been with his least talented teams. 
So glad this series is back! Giles has without a doubt been my favorite program to follow (other than GW, of course) since the 80's. Seeing a schedule with you guys and Radford on it just feels right.

I agree to a degree. Our passing game does in fact need to get sync'ed up, and the only way to do that is thru repetition. But on the flip side, we do need to win. One thing I've noticed with this team is that the WR's block VERY well. We found some rhythm with in the run game with the motion handoff to Fowler and countered that with Luke on the keep. I agree...It's basic, and sure we need more going forward. But given the situation, I wasn't mad at it. I did see a couple of RPO wrinkles that left me encouraged. I'm with you that we have to get Houston, Kirtner, and Walters more involved to be more efficient tho. 
I don't hold that pick 6 squarely on Luke, either. That was a play action by design. All the safety has to do is not bite and the WR comes to him. 
None of those issues irk me more than our tendency to reverse/fake reverse kickoff returns, tho. That's a whole damn soapbox in itself for me. 

I was impressed with a couple of FC linebackers myself. Safety made an excellent read on the pick 6. To be honest, the previous series, it looked to me like the slant would be there all day in that formation. Obviously, I was wrong lol! We still have a lot to clean up on the offensive side of the ball, but I can't take anything away from what Fort did defensively. 
I know what you're saying about Fort's offensive scheme as well. Not gonna lie, it was pretty evident to me early that we outmanned them pretty heavily on the edge. From that standpoint, I understand why their offense did what they did, but like you said, there was no counters, no "keep you honest", and no real threat of anything beyond Varney. 100% agree with you. 
And for the life of me, I do not understand why in the hell Fort decided to punt from our 35. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Brandon Harner outcoached Spider in that moment and left our punt return unit on the sideline. Spider got what he deserved there lol.
