P.A. wise I love Paul "Slick" Cook at Richlands. He get's a little one sided sometimes but he is definitely a great voice for Richlands football.

Impressive totals redtiger.  I have gotten those tweets from @VHSLReference for a couple of years now.  They are fairly inaccurate most of the time when talking about 276 and 540 actually.  They have one tweet making the rounds discussing state titles by area code.  More than half of the area codes in VIrginia were established after 1995.
 
703 = 1947
804 = 1973
540 = 1995
757 = 1996
571 = 2000
434 = 2001
276 = 2001
 
Covington won the state title in 1986 as part of the 703 area code.  Does that count toward 540?
Clintwood won state championships in 1974, 1975 and 1978 as a part of the 703 area code.  Does that now count toward 276?
 
The whole concept is misleading when factoring in titles by area code.

The funniest thing I have ever seen at any athletic event.  Galax at Grayson in 2011.  Final regular season game of the year and both teams were undefeated.  During the first half, Grayson students went through the estimated 8,000 fans selling half and half tickets.  Everyone on the Galax side was sold red tickets and everyone on the Grayson side was sold green tickets.  The PA announcer for Grayson, Jackie Phipps, made sure to remind the Grayson faithful NOT to purchase any red tickets.  He made this announcement every 5 minutes for the entire first half. 
 
Only green tickets were used for the halftime drawing.  It was classic and adds fuel to an already heated fire between county and city residents locally.
 
Jackie is famous for saying the same two lines the whole game, every game in his high pitched, nasally whine.

Kes Blackwell muttering random unconnected phrases ranks highly on the list.

Sending prayers and thoughts to Cody's family and former teammates.  Cody passed away from an auto accident night before last.  I had the honor to see him play many games as a Big Blue.  He was a fine young man who represented his school with distinction having earned 1st team All-State as a senior.  He was a 2011 graduate of Richlands High School.
