  3. Carroll girls won too, 42-27 over Staunton River
  4. Kind of hard to be in a district when it's not going to exist in two years.
  5. Yeah, that's basically what I meant too. Just making sure we're all on the same page.
  6. Higher seeds host the semifinals, district champ hosts the tournament championship game, so the final will be at Carroll for boys and girls.
  7. Who is #18 for Tazewell that relieved Wood?
  8. The Virginia State Police is continuing its investigation into Sunday’s shooting incident that seriously injured two Buchanan County Deputy Sheriffs, and claimed the lives of two other Buchanan County Deputy Sheriffs. The assailant, Randy Gilbert Newberry, 52, of Vansant, was also shot and killed. At approximately 3 p.m. Sunday (March 13, 2011), the owner of Rogers Service Center, a salvage business, on Route 620 in Vansant called 911 concerning a larceny in progress on his property. Upon arriving at the business, two Buchanan County Deputy Sheriffs Eric Dwayne Rasnake and Shane Earl Charles began their search for the larceny suspect, Newberry, and investigating the larceny. Within minutes, the two deputies were shot multiple times from a distance by a high-powered rifle. Both were able to crawl to a nearby residence in attempt to take cover and call for help. Additional sheriff’s deputies and the Virginia State Police responded immediately to the scene. As a perimeter was being established to contain and search for the active shooter, Deputy Sheriffs Cameron Neil Justus and William Ezra Stiltner were shot and killed by a high-powered rifle. At this point, the shooter left his hiding place on the ridge in the wood-line and ran to another nearby residence about a quarter of a mile up the road from the salvage business. Police tracked Newberry to the house and found him in the front yard talking on cell phone. They repeatedly told him to put up his hands and get on the ground. Newberry stayed on the cell phone with his back to the officers and ignored their commands. When he did turn around he pulled out and aimed a handgun at the officers. He was subsequently shot. Newberry died at the scene. The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Wytheville Field Office is conducting the investigation into the incidents. A search of the area around the business revealed Newberry’s sniper location on a ridge in the wood-line overlooking the property. Multiple cartridge casings from a high-powered rifle were recovered at that location. Several police vehicles at the scene of the salvage property had also been shot. Virginia State Police, Russell County Sheriff’s Office, Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, Wise County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Service and FBI responded to the scene Sunday to assist with the search and investigation. Buchanan County Deputy Sheriff Cameron Neil Justus, 41, of Hurley, Va., and Buchanan County Deputy Sheriff William Ezra Stiltner, 46, of Maxie, Va., both died at the scene. A 10-year veteran of the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Justus is survived by a wife, daughter, and step-son. A seven-year veteran of the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Stiltner is survived by a wife and two children. Buchanan County Deputy Sheriff Eric Dwayne Rasnake, 32, of Jewell Ridge, Va., remains in ICU at the Bristol Regional Medical Center in Bristol, Tenn. Buchanan County Deputy Sheriff Shane Earl Charles, 25, of Maxie, Va., is being treated at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn. Both deputies are listed in critical condition. A “Deputy Relief Fund†has been set up to aid all four of the victims and their families through the Grundy National Bank. For more information, please contact Ms. Bonnie Barnette at Grundy National Bank, 460 Riverside Drive, Grundy, Va. 24614, or at 276-935-8111x232. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office has 33 sworn officers, with a total of 46 sworn and civilian employees. The last time a Buchanan County Deputy Sheriff was killed in the line of duty was approximately 40 years ago. The public is invited to attend a candlelight vigil Monday night, March 14, at the Buchanan County Courthouse in Grundy at 7 p.m. Local churches will also be open to the public for those in need of support.
  9. Thanks, but I already got one. Here's looking forward to hopefully a good game tomorrow.
  10. Much obliged Stu Bean and bluesfan4. Thanks a million guys.
  11. I need a Richlands roster. Does anyone know where you can find one online? Thanks in advance.
  12. Carroll 13, grundy 0, 32 secs left in 1st Q 49 yd TD run and fumble rec. In end zone
  13. That's one more good thing than can be said about Grundy.
  14. What's the over/under on how long before southbound starts complaining about the refs?
  15. Hey Lance, Where do you get the playoff points from? I'd like to take a look at Region IV, Division IV. Thanks.
  16. This^^^ Abingdon got it handed to them, then midway through the fourth quarter starting taking multiple cheap shots. And Southbound is right. The refs lost control of the game. If they'd had control of the game, one of two things should have happened. A) More than one Abingdon player should have been tossed for taking cheap shots/late hits or B) the game should have been called midway through the fourth because at this point all Abingdon was trying to accomplish was hit players late/start fights. Abingdon had 7 penalties for 63 yards, Carroll had 6 for 60 yards. So you're saying that extra penalty for three more yards made a 25-point difference? Abingdon only had 3 penalties for 15 yards before the score was 28-3...before the personal fouls started to pile up...and Carroll had a touchdown called back, like Huntercav said. I understand being frustrated and complaining about refs. But to use that excuse in this game is akin to saying the cop who pulled you over for going 70 in a 35 was just trying to meet his quota.
  17. #55 got tossed after punching a Carroll lineman numerous times
  18. As I said, Beamer took a moribund program that had been to 4 or 5 bowls in 90 years to 17 straight bowls, one national title game, six conference championships, 2 BCS bowl victories, six straight 10-win seasons, and 10 of the last 11 against UVa. No offense to you personally, but the man has forgotten more football than probably all of the posters on this board will ever know combined. I'm of the mind that I'll trust his opinion over a few upset message board posters. Again, having said that, there clearly needs to be some adjusted philosophies. I swear, I think Stinespring has a chart with six plays and rolls a dice to decide which one to pick. And the OL always takes 2/3s of the season to gell. But having sat through seeing VT lose to VMI in front of a measly 10,000 people three decades ago, to seeing where the program has gone since then, I'll trust Beamer for the time-being. A couple of bad losses don't outweigh 17 unbelieveable seasons. But maybe that' s just me.
  19. Thanks, and by the way UVa looks great tonight, as much as it pains me to say.
  20. I realize that the majority of people calling for Beamer's and Foster's heads are mainly bandwagoners that have jumped aboard since 1999. I also realize they have no idea of the shape of the program before Beamer and the history of VT football prior to Beamer. But to call for the head of a man that has taken a program to 17 straight bowls for a program that went to only 4 or 5 in the previous 90 years is utterly ridiculous. And Foster? Are you kidding? Yeah, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina pulled out all the stops to get him. He must be terrible. For any VT fan who thinks the grass is greener on the other side, just look at the case of other successful orograms in the region before you make that assumption. Phil Fulmer won a frickin national title at UT and came close to a couple of others. He was forced out and Lane Kiffin was brought in. How'd that work out? They are now being investigated by the NCAA and had to settle for their 4th or 5th choice for a new coach. Don Nehlen was a legend at WVU and was basically forced out. RIch Rod had a few good years, but I don't know too many Mountaineers that would ever want him back. And lets not even mention Bill Stewart. George Welsh turned UVa from a laughingstock into an exceptional program. A few 7 win seasons at the end of his career left Wahoos wanting for more. Enter Al Groh? Again, how'd that work out? Granted, I think Frank is going to have to take a hard look at changing some of his philosophies and replacing a couple of staff members. But let's be honest, it's not like VT is going to bring in Nick Saban or Urban Meyer. For goodness sake, when Beamer almost took the UNC job, Weaver was rumored to be after Gary Darnell from Western Michigan. So before you usher Beamer out the door, just remember, those who fail to understand their past are doomed to repeat it.
  21. WVU 24, Marshall 21, Final, OT Marshall had ball inside WVU 5 with 8:30 left up 21-6, fumbled, and then WVU scored 18 straight. Unbelievable.
